02.01.2022 Fire damages newly-established possum sanctuary This is the just the kind of incident we are hoping to see less of as the summer heat intensifies along with the risk of catastrophic bushfire. Remember: We’re trying to make their job easier this summer by being prepared!... Very upsetting to see damage by fire on Monday to our new Possum Sanctuary in Leicester Reserve, Eaton, with an area of brand new fencing now needing to be replaced as a result. Just like the fire in Millbridge last week, Shire of Dardanup Chief Bushfire Control Officer Chris Hynes says the cause of the fire is as yet unknown and being investigated. The Possum Sanctuary project aims to rescue Western Ringtail Possums from the brink of extinction. It has been made possible thanks to $20,000 in funding from WIRES and Landcare Australia provided to the Leschenault Catchment Council and supported by the Shire of Dardanup. You can read more about the project on our website https://www.dardanup.wa.gov.au/new-project-aims-to-save-a-/ Deliberately lit fires cause significant damage to people, property, businesses and the environment. Or if you have knowledge of suspicious fires or arson ring Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
01.01.2022 Help keep our roads safe this Christmas! We have all been touched in one way or another by the trauma that occurs on our roads nearly every single day of the year. And if that tragedy happens over the holiday period, each year is an awful reminder.... In its ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce the number of tragedies on our roads, the Industry Road Safety Alliance South West launched its Christmas Road Safety campaign today at a gathering of representatives from State Government, Local Government, road safety groups and Main Roads WA. In attendance at the Eaton Fair event were MLA Mick Murray, Deputy Shire of Dardanup President Peter Robinson and City of Bunbury Councillor Betty McCleary. Speakers encouraged everyone to think about reasons to stay safe on the road this holiday period. The event was hosted by the Shire of Dardanup and proudly supported by the Road Safety Commission, the Road Trauma Trust Account and the Minister of Road Safety.
