08.01.2022 In the wake of the fire emergency events that occurred last weekend the Shire of Kent would like to make special mention of thanks to some who assisted: The volunteer fire fighters from Nyabing who put themselves on the front line and assisted in keeping KA safe Councillor support from Craig Bamess, Kate Johnston Braden N Kate Johnston, Scott Crosby and Kerryn Stephens Staff support from Cameron McGill, Christie Smith, Mic Crosby, Stephen Chan...telle Zuppicich Dylan Mathewson, Barry Jolley and any other members of the community who offered assistance/supplies . @Jess Browne for directing evacuees & organising breakfast for those who stayed. Pepe Dart & Victoria Dart from the Nyabing Community Hub who provided food Vic & Rajni from the Nyabing Store 124 who provided water and ice. and to all the others that helped that I may have missed in the above list I congratulate the ones that provided assistance to the evacuees and fortunately for our shire there were no catastrophic outcomes and was therefore a good test of our plans and responses. Once the dust has settled and DFES reports reviewed, we will see what additional resources are needed and to ensure a better organised response to any future incidents. 03.01.2022 The 2019-20 Grants are now open! Grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are available to help community organisations to support the efforts of Australia’s volunteers. The grants can be used to buy small equipment for volunteers or for the reimbursement of volunteer fuel, transport or training costs. The grants should be used to support a diverse range of priorities such as: drought; environmental conservation; youth services such as scouting groups or local sports clubs; commu...nity organisations supporting older Australians such as Meals on Wheels or Men’s Sheds; arts groups; or supporting rural fire services, first aid providers or State Emergency Services. This list is not exhaustive and there may be community organisations using volunteers to engage in other activities that are important to the local community. Eligible organisations can send their details direct to [email protected] by the 10th February 2020 and need to include the name and address of the organisation, name of the key contact person and the email address and phone number of the key contact person. Your nomination should also include what the grant will be used for and the grant amount. A community consultation committee will assist me in identifying suitable projects for nomination.
