14.01.2022 Buddy’s Business Buzz Today Buddy ends the day rich with knowledge and history after taking a tour of the Koorda Museum. Costing 792 ($1,400) to construct in December 1931, (and 381 of the fundraised money being allocated to equipment) the Koorda hospital (now the Museum) was built by JW Price and was officially opened on 24th September 1932. ... In the 88 years since its opening, the building has seen many uses. The Hospital ran from 1932 to 1940, and closed due to the outbreak of the war which saw doctors and nurses moving away as well as a population decline. By 1945, after the war had ended, there was a need for a school hostel as most of the little schools in the shire had closed. Twenty two boarders from between seven to forty miles (11-64kms) out of town moved in, and the hostel officially opened in June 1946. With the advent of school buses, the hostel closed shortly after and once again the buildings were empty. Following uses included a Baby Clinic Centre, a permanent Police station, the base for a Youth Club, a hairdresser and a kindergarten. Fast forward to 1974 and the Museum was opened. During COVID restrictions, which saw the Museum closed to visitors, the enthusiastic and proactive committee thought it was the perfect time for alternations, renovations and sorting. The Committee have meticulously set up various exhibits and displays honouring the many uses of the building and ensuring the utmost respect has been paid in preserving and maintaining the rich history of the families, businesses and buildings that have made Koorda the place it is today. Be sure to arrange a visit next time you are in town!

12.01.2022 Ever wondered how a road is constructed!? Never fear, we’ve got you covered! We are able to give you a snippet into the behind the scenes on the Burakin-Wialki Road work of art we call sealing! Thanks to Brad Harrap for taking this drone footage for us. Our works crew have been working hard the past few months to prepare the road surface for the final seal, which is the quickest part of the whole process. ... The process starts with ripping up the old seal/road, then the crew cart in gravel and begin the water binding process. After LOTS of back and forthing, the road is well compressed and the foundations are set and strong ready for final trim. Final trim involves precision grader work to ensure the camber is just right to provide correct water run off and drainage. The final step of the process is the sealing works which can be seen in the below video!

For our non farming followers, this is a great glimpse into Harvest, which keeps our farmers busy from October through to January. A big thanks to Adam Storer for letting us share this footage! ... The grains industry is the largest agricultural sector in Western Australia delivering around $4.6 billion to the state economy each year (5 year average) with the majority of this coming from cereal production ($3.6 billion) and contributions from oilseeds ($0.8 billion) and legumes ($0.16 billion). WA produces about 14 million tonnes of grain each year from around 4000 rain-fed farms ranging in size from 1000 to 15 000 hectares. Wheat is the state’s major grain crop with about seven million tonnes produced each year followed by barley, canola, oats, lupins and peas.
