11.01.2022 On this day in 1941 the greatest Naval disaster in Australian history took place off the coast of Steep Point in Shark Bay, Western Australia. The Shark Bay Di...scovery & Visitor Centre is home to the 'Fire on the Water' exhibition. The 15 minute 3D film and accompanying exhibit tell the story of the battle between HMAS Sydney II and HSK Kormoran, tracing the events of this World War II Naval battle. Astonishing deep-sea 3D imagery from the 2015 expeditions to the wreck sites, undertaken by WA Museum, Curtin University and DOF Subsea have been used to create an interpretative timeline of the battle and to offer insights into what happened when the ships met off Shark Bay 79 years ago. The exhibit is permanent, free and screens every half hour during the Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery and Visitor Centre's opening hours. In collaboration with WA Museum Boola Bardip, 'Fire on the Water' is part two of an historical maritime trail which begins with 'From Great Depths' at the Museum of Geraldton, commemorating this significant Australian Naval disaster.

Turn your headlights on to improve your car’s visibility during dayl...ight hours. #NRSW #Drivesos #Savinglivestogether Fatalities and serious injuries on regional roads continue to be over-represented in WA crash statistics with around 60% of all deaths occurring on country roads. To raise awareness of the Shine a Light theme and to improve safety when travelling on country roads for work or on holidays, motorists around the state are encouraged to switch on their headlights, making themselves more visible to other road users, even in daylight hours. Good news, with recent changes to the REX Community Fare conditions meaning unsold seats will now be available for purchase at the promotional Community Fare level ($158 for Monkey Mia and $199 for Carnarvon for each way travel) within the seven days prior to departure (previously a 24-hour window before departure). 01.01.2022 Dog barking information Barking is a natural way for dogs to communicate, not all barking is considered nuisance barking. Remember, dogs often bark when separated from their owner or alerting to danger. When the noises are excessive there is generally a reason, but more importantly there are solutions. We encourage local dog owners to ensure you have a plan in place, if you will be away from your home for long periods of time. Solutions that may help: ... provide your dog with a distraction - chew toy / long-lasting treat ask a friend to check-in on your dog bring your dog inside eliminate direct line-of-sight vision between your dog and outside your property erect a solid fence For further information, please visit the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries website. https://www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/local-government//cats-and-dogs
