24.01.2022 Are You A Renter? Or Own a Rental Property? Minimum security standards: Main entry door:... The minimum required security is either a deadlock or an AS 5039-2008 compliant key lockable security screen door. The deadlock can be either a single cylinder or double cylinder. A single cylinder deadlock can be opened from the inside simply by turning the handle or a knob, allowing a person to exit the house quickly in case of an emergency. The deadlock can be separate to the door handle or it can be incorporated into the handset. There is no need to retrofit security if there already is an Australian Standards compliant key lockable security screen with a deadlock fitted. 23.01.2022 How to prevent being locked out There are things that can be fitted to prevent this happening Roller rim locks can be fitted they need a key to be turned in the cylinder to lock them from the outside. Door restrictors can stop the door from shutting behind you... People seem to forget about checking/oiling their locks and doors checking for worn keys badly cut keys (we all see them) and not sorting out a problem until it is too late prevention is better than cure. When a door starts to stick a key won’t turn in the cylinder properly check it out don’t let it get worse. If you do get locked out SSL should be able to get you back in without damage (unless the lock has broken) with as little inconvenience as can be done.

This does not mean having to install keyed window locks, but all openable windows have latches, closers or locks fitted and be in working order.... If the window is fitted with an Australian standards (AS 5039-2008) compliant security screen, there is no requirement to retrofit a window lock.
