13.01.2022 A YEAR IN REVIEW! 2020... What a year. It began with 90% of the Shoalhaven on fire, followed by all the rain everyone had prayed for in the previous months. ... The following months are a blur with almost everything shut down and everyone at home due to our good friend COVID. We were then BLESSED with the news of a Station renovation/extension!!! The following months were filled with excitement, researching and passing things through our monthly meetings to fit out the new station! We then got some even more exciting news that we were to pick up a brand new cat 1 for our brigade!!! This was to replace the current cat 1 we had which was the oldest truck in the entire Shoalhaven! As Covid restrictions began to ease, the extension was complete and we were able to move in and have our grand opening!!! Sadly, we couldn’t invite our team mates from surrounding brigades but since then, have shown most of them through! Back into training we got, at least twice, sometimes three times a week! We ran many courses for our beautiful new members who had joined after the Summer fires as well as the members from surrounding brigades. We would like to thank each and every member of our brigade for the constant support and friendship that is always shown to one another. We are a truly lucky to have such an amazing group of people. We would also like to thank everyone in the community and wider community that has donated, helped, smiled or even given us a wave as we drive past. Every action from the community fills our hearts and reminds us why we do this. Thank you to everyone who has made this year what it was!! As good as the year turned out, we are definitely excited for 2021 to roll in!! #nswrfs

12.01.2022 ELFIE SIGHTING As the roller doors went up this morning for Sunday morning training, Elfie was spotted! He was perched quite high, sitting atop the monitor on the cat 1!!!! Who knows what he will be up to next! ... #NSWRFS

11.01.2022 ANIMAL RESCUE - CAT UP TREE This afternoon Shoalhaven Heads Pump was responded to reports to a cat up a tree which had been there since 7am! On arrival the cat made itself known that it wanted to come down with constant meows for help! The little girl who owned the cat let us know that his name was Angus and that he was ready to come home. ... With that information, we got to work!! The extension ladder was used off the pumper to get up high in the tree. Once Angus was in the arms of one of our firefighters, he was comfortable and happy to be brought back down to the ground and returned to his owners. Try and see if you can spot Angus in the tree in the second picture!! This was the second fire call for the Heads today with reports of a grass fire North of Berry this morning which turned out to be a small pile burn. #NSWRFS

09.01.2022 Keep safe during this crazy season.

09.01.2022 SANTA RUN! We have just gotten word from the North Pole that Santa is on his way to Shoalhaven Heads ready for his ride around the town in the fire trucks this afternoon!! Just a reminder that Santa is unfortunately not allowed out of the trucks this year for any interaction with the kids due to the current circumstances. ... The map attached is the route for this afternoon, unfortunately we cannot visit every street but feel free to wander over to another street that is included on the map to catch a glimpse of Santa! We would love to see your photos of Santa in the truck this afternoon so make sure to tag Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Brigade in all your posts!

08.01.2022 AFA- Gerroa This afternoon shoalhaven Heads and Gerringong were responded to an Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA) at the Gerroa sewerage treatment plant. Heads pumper and Cat 1 both turned out along with Gerringong pumper. Both brigades arrived on scene and investigated to find workers had created some dust which set the alarm off. No further action was required. #NSWRFS

07.01.2022 Residents across New South Wales are urged to monitor weather reports and health advice as the state is expected to experience heatwave conditions in the coming... days. The Bureau of Meteorology warns temperatures are generally expected to increase over the weekend. As the weather heats up, motorists are also reminded it’s not only an offence for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle, it can be deadly. Everyone needs to take care in hot weather, but some people are at higher risk of heat illness, especially if they are older, live alone or are socially-isolated. Remember to; Stay well-hydrated Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks Limit your physical activity Try to stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Wear light, loose-fitting clothing made from natural fibres like cotton Regularly check your forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology on radio, TV, internet or App Get advice from your doctor about whether your medication and/or your medical conditions may affect what you should do if it gets extremely hot Make sure you know who you are going to call (who may need help, and who could provide help to you if needed); make a list of telephone numbers and make sure they are current. If you can, it's a good idea to spend some time in an air-conditioned building. For more information please refer to the Beat the Heat website: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/beattheheat Livestock and pet owners are also being urged to ensure adequate clean water is always available and that shading is provided where possible. Additionally, no animals should be left in confined, unventilated areas. Members of the public should also regularly visit the Rural Fire Service website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au for updated bush fire warnings and information. For updated weather forecasts and warnings visit www.bom.gov.au.

06.01.2022 RESPONDING - SMOKE IN VICINITY Both Shoalhaven Heads Pump and 1 responding along with Broughton Vale - Berry Rural Fire Brigade to resports of smoke in vicinity at Jaspers Brush. Reminder that it is a total fire ban in the Shoalhaven/Illawarra today so if you see any signs of smoke or fire, call 000. ... 06.01.2022 POSSIBLE ELF SIGHTING!! We were responded to an unoccupied building this evening for an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival we discovered an alarm operating in t...he roof space so we got to work alongside Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Brigade and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 346 Kiama to ensure there was no fire in the roof. Fortunately there was no sign of fire however local residents informed us that they had seen some reindeers on the roof prior to our arrival. From our brief investigation it seems like some elves may have been checking to see if any children were home prior to Santa’s arrival later this evening. The elves must have disturbed some dust in the ceiling which has activated the alarm. Merry Christmas!

04.01.2022 GRASS FIRE - BACK FOREST Last night crews from Shoalhaven Heads and Cambewarra Rural Fire Brigade were responded to reports of a grass fire on Bolong Road, Back Forest. 03.01.2022 Some important info shared by our friends up North! Although it is not expected to reach 40 degrees down here, it is possible that it may reach the mid to high 30’s. Please make sure if you have had any pile burns that they are completely blacked out. ... #NSWRFS

03.01.2022 The day has arrived, the Monster Charity Day is on at the Heads Hotel starting from 11.00am. Due to the current Covid restrictions numbers are limited, so get here early to secure a spot and help raise some money for our local volunteer services. Brigade members are there to offer fire wise information and to show you through our newest fire appliance, a 2020 cat 1 tanker. #NSWRFS #monstercharityday

03.01.2022 It was a busy day for the brigade today! An RFD (Rural Fire Driving) course was being run at our station by some of our members for surrounding brigades. A fire call in the morning to reports of Smoke in vicinity at Jaspers Brush put a slight pause on the course while the 3 Shoalhaven Heads trucks responded to this incident along with Cambewarra Rural Fire Brigade and Broughton Vale - Berry Rural Fire Brigade. ... On arrival it was found to be a large cloud of dust that very much resembled a plume of smoke being blown around. Another call a few hours later back to Jaspers Brush for the same reason. Whilst on route, one of the three Shoalhaven Heads trucks was diverted to another incident of which a tree had fallen onto powerlines, snapping the lines. Another of the Shoalhaven Heads trucks were on their way home from the incident when they encountered another set of powerlines that had fallen within Berry. All members on the course passed and everyone returned home safely! #NSWRFS

02.01.2022 Santa has officially left Shoalhaven Heads and was spotted flying through the blue mountains on his way home!! Time for bed kids!!!
