21.01.2022 Great to get another Bandicoot photo close to the fire impacted areas in Kangaroo Valley. Shoalhaven Landcare is just scoping out our project for building log piles as enhanced habitat in areas where bandicoots are active. It should give them more hiding places safe from foxes.

21.01.2022 Time to get Twitching.

20.01.2022 Stormy Rainy Saturday. Great for Frogs. Well perfect actually. Thanks to all who braved the weather to release some chytrid fungus free Stuttering Frogs into Tapitallee and Bengalee Creeks on Saturday as part of the Shoalhaven Landcare Environmental Trust Stuttering Frog Project (See Shoalhaven Landcare website for more project info). Hopefully these little guys will boost the numbers in a dwindling population.

20.01.2022 Still some exciting Bird talks coming up. Check them out.

19.01.2022 Head to Kangaroo Valley on Sunday, 15 March from 9.30am to hear Noel & Trish Butler lead a talk to the community about an indigenous perspective on native bush regeneration after the fires.

19.01.2022 Now the weather is warming up what a fantastic time for bird watching. Last weekend Shoalhaven Landcare in conjunction with Birdlife Shoalhaven held a booked out Birds in Rainforests workshop at Wattamolla. A perfect day with a walk through the rainforest with a great group of people and lots to see. Thanks to Catherine for hosting, and Yolande for her fabulous presentation. More Bird Workshops across the Shoalhaven to come. If you are interested to find out more contact Sonya on [email protected]

19.01.2022 What to do in this time of Coronavirus induced self-isolation. Baking is good! But, baking a soil themed cake is even better. A challenge that will no doubt be... taken up by the SKNs own award-winning baker, Ian Packer. In 2018 SKN member Roy Lawrie attended a World Soil Day event at Berry with Shoalhaven Landcare and Landcare Illawarra. While there was some discussion about soils - the highlight of the day was the soil cakes for afternoon tea !! The winning cake (shown below) had great textural horizons and a chocolate slab with nuts which represented a Permian extinction layer! Thanks to Katharine Brown for inviting us along. Photo credit: Lisa Lawrie Personally I liked the cake that showed the veg on top and the C horizon below (2nd photo) The third photos is from the ABC Landline. 4th photo is a soil pit - How cool is that! posted by Lisa Lobry de Bruyn for World Soils Day back in 2017... Lisa, not sure that the spoil immediately above the pit would meet WHS standards, might have to eat that bit first! Please send photos of your creative efforts

17.01.2022 After fire or prolonged periods of drought, native animals need some short-term help until their natural environment recovers. Check out these DIY wildlife drinking stations you can make to supply native animals with fresh, clean water

Thousands of homes have been de...stroyed and lives tragically lost. 14.01.2022 What a great event and a great last workshop of 2020. Thank you to all those who attended our recent Birds for Beginners Workshop at the Gooloo Wildflower Farm, Conjola. What a beautiful day and plenty of birds to see. A huge thank you to our generous hosts Gerry and Helena, Owners of Gooloo Wildflower Farm who have been very busy this year rebuilding their property and business after being impacted by the bushfires in January. Its wonderful to see the regeneration and the return of the birds post bushfire. A big thank you too to Yolande and Birdlife Shoalhaven who have been a great partner with Shoalhaven Landcare to deliver these great workshops. Hopefully plenty more to come in 2021 (If you have any requests for workshops for 2021 we would love to hear from you. Email to [email protected]).

05.01.2022 Happy two year anniversary to these two girls! Snark and Violet are two eastern quolls born and bred at Devils at Cradle and Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary. They n...ow live in the wild on the south coast of NSW. Three of our ten female quolls reintroduced to the wild in March 2018 survived their first six months, after being released at Booderee National Park as part of a trial reintroduction to mainland Australia, where the species has been functionally extinct since about the 1960s. Despite the initial high mortality of quolls released into the park from a range of threats (foxes, domestic dogs and cars being the primary causes) these quolls have demonstrated they can avoid threats and go on to survive on the mainland. These quolls are true trailblazers and have taught the monitoring and research team led by ANU Fenner School of Environment & Society a vast amount about how to improve future reintroductions of this singularly beautiful, missing species. Reversing extinction is never easy. It has taken dedicated organisations including Parks Australia Threatened Species Recovery Hub WWF-Australia Taronga Zoo Sydney Aussie Ark and Shoalhaven Landcare and countless individuals who continue to go above and beyond the call of duty, along with years of testing and refining program methodology. It’s too important to give up. We’re not there yet but we can do it, together. Can you donate to this cause? https://quolls.raisely.com/ Our eastern quolls will thank you. See more

05.01.2022 Shoalhaven Landcare is currently recruiting a part-time Landcare coordinator. Please share.

04.01.2022 So important to have some recognition for the great work Landcare does every day.

04.01.2022 Something from Bomaderry Creek. Beautiful.

04.01.2022 Its been great to get started on our bushfire recovery grant site assessments. At a site in Budgong it was wonderful to see so much native regeneration (only one weed to report-Ink Weed. Great native resilience).

03.01.2022 Our beautiful bushland and wildlife have sustained some damage and we are embarking upon a detailed assessment of the impact. Thank you to everyone who has offe...red assistance and support. We now have water stations set up across the affected areas. Over the coming months we will be working with our regional partners to look after our native flora and fauna and those animals that have sought refuge on our properties.

02.01.2022 What a great turn out on the 5th November for the Shoalhaven Landcare Annual General Meeting. Thanks to everyone who came and a huge Thank You to Jack Hinde our special guest for coming to enlighten us all on the finicky lifecycle of the Shoalhaven's very own Broadheaded Snake. Also a big Congratulations to all Committee members who were re-elected for another busy year of projects and works for 2021. And a huge thanks to all Shoalhaven Landcare members who contributed their time through such a challenging year. Looking forward to seeing you all out and about in 2021.
