01.01.2022 It's the last weekend in November and the Christmas season has well and truly begun. Santa Claus appears and celebratory gatherings are held. The Shoalhaven News, dated Wednesday 11th December 1940, carries a report of the Fishing Club's annual outing titled 'Father Christmas visits picnic'. "The beautiful picnic grounds of 'The Heads' Crookhaven Park, was the meeting place agreed upon for the second annual picnic and Christmas tree [...]. On arrival the crowd gathered aroun...d a magnificent pine tree laden with gifts and toys, balloons and decorations [...]. Punctually at 2pm Santa made a landing near the pilot house." Thirty years later the Nowra Ex-servicemen's Club also chose Crookhaven Heads to host their children's Christmas picnic (pictured below, 1970). What memories do you have of the beginning of the Christmas Season in the Shoalhaven?
