01.01.2022 The Coolangatta Estate was founded by Alexander Berry in the mid 18th Century and converted into a Winery in the mid 19th century. The estate was named after the Aboriginal word ‘Collungatta’ which means Fine view. The Estate was the first European settlement on the south coast, and currently the largest sustainable winery in the Shoalhaven. In the late 19th century Alexander Bell built the Estate to be so self-sustained that they started selling different assets around the ...world from selling Horses to India, Cedar to Europe and cattle, Tobacco, cheese and wheat to Sydney. While doing this he had the Convicts that worked for him to build Mills, workshops, and training tradesmen and artisans. By doing all of this his hard work built a sustainable business for the future today. The Coolangatta Estate is a beautiful hidden gem of the Shoalhaven. With the restored Convict built cottages which are livable, the estate is a getaway that is like another world. The amazing food and wine will secure the need to really relax.
