23.01.2022 It's #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth and our latest edition of InMotion looks at the ways physiotherapists can proactively help their patients. A positive view of ...mental illness is a way to reduce stigma for those experiencing mental health problems and make it easier to ask for help. Physiotherapists are good communicators. We will raise and discuss strategies on how to properly address these problems if we believe they are impacting on the person’s overall wellbeing and recovery - so why, then, is there a perceived barrier to talking about mental health? https://bit.ly/2GKmnZe

18.01.2022 HOLD THAT PLANK! 8 Essential tips to follow ! 1. Your hands are placed comfortably on the ground, either with your palms on the ground or fists clasped together.... 2. Your feet are hip-width apart. You should be balancing on the balls of your feet. 3. Your spine is totally straight. 4. Your tailbone should be tucked so that its aligned with your spine, not sticking into the air. 5. Your glutes butt muscles are squeezed tight. 6. Your belly button is drawn in toward your spine. 7. Your lats back muscles should be flexed and pulling away from the floor. 8. Your body is in one straight line. Make sure your lower back isnt sagging and your booty isnt popping up.'' Try to hold the plank for 30 to 60 seconds at a time. While in the position, dont look for cheats to make it easier instead look to squeeze each muscle for an even greater contraction.'' Its important to never compromise your form. Having bad form like allowing your lower back to sag or popping your butt into the air can increase your risk for injuries and make the plank less effective. If your form is compromised you risk injury because you are placing stress on tendons, bones, joints, and muscles that are potentially not in alignment, which can cause you to get hurt''. 11.01.2022 Stress triggers a combination of signals from both hormones and nerves. These signals cause your adrenal glands to release hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol. The result is an increase in heart rate and energy as part of the fight-or-flight response. Its your bodys way of preparing itself for potentially dangerous or harmful situations. Cortisol also helps to limit any functions that arent essential in a fight-or-flight situation. Once the threat passes, your horm...ones return to their usual levels. This whole process can be a lifesaver. But when youre under constant stress, this response doesnt always turn off. Long-term exposure to cortisol and other stress hormones can wreak havoc on almost all of your bodys processes, increasing your risk of many health issues, from heart disease and obesity to anxiety and depression.
