06.01.2022 Happy 75th Star Birthday wishes to our Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani #karaikudimani Please enjoy listening to some of his masterpieces and the performers and well ...wishers with whom he has been interacting over many years. Thank you to all the contributors of the photos from various Chapters of Sruthi-Laya Kendra and Artists around the world. Audio Editing: Chelliah Kuganesan and Ravichandhira Guru Mani received his first national award at the age of 18 from the then President of India. In 1999 he accepted the national award from "Sangeeth Natak Academy". This was presented by the President of India at the time, K. R. Narayanan. In 1986, he started an ensemble, entitled Sruthi Laya, that combined melody and percussion. Three years later, he founded the Sruthi Laya Seva institution that opened centres at Chennai, Bangalore, Australia, London, US, and Canada. The impact of his collaboration with the Australian Art Orchestra (AAO) under the leadership of Paul Grabowsky AO pianist, composer and producer and many other recipients of prestigious awards-the musicians and scholars over the past 30 years has been phenomenal. Dr Sandy Evans says "I am a Sydney based saxophonist, improviser, and composer. In 1996 I sat on stage in New Delhi as a member of the Australian Art Orchestra (AAO) and heard Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani (Mani-Sir) perform a breathtaking Tani Avartanam with ghatam player T.V. Vasan. That was to be the first of many times I would experience the energy, imagination, intuition, intellect, virtuosity, tradition, innovation, warmth, and humanity of this renowned mridangam player. The AAOs collaboration with Mani-Sir is ongoing". At the APRA Music Awards of 2013, her composition Meetings at the Table of Time performed by members of the Australian Art Orchestra and the Sruthi Laya Ensemble won Performance of the Year and was nominated for Work of the Year Jazz. The distinguished team of musicians has been headhunted by many festival artistic directors around the globe to feature their collaborative creations. https://www.pressreader.com/india/the... https://www.thehindu.com/entertainmen... M4TV Interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T4_X... http://srutimag.blogspot.com/2018/09/... To read full story, visit sruti.com and buy Sruti 379 In Australia, a prime student of Guru Mani, Ravi M Ravichandhira OAM, who became his student in 1986 and his wife Narmatha Ravichandhira MA established Sruthi Laya Kendra (SLK) Aust Inc in 1992. Australia is proud to say that mega events in Australia have been made possible through multi-level partnerships and personal philanthropic funding. https://www.thehindu.com/society/hist... As part of the curriculum, Guru Mani provides invaluable guidance in preparing suitable artists from overseas to perform for the mridangam graduates who have worked hard and reached a reasonably high standard to play in a feature concert. With the immense cooperation of senior gurus and Carnatic musicians and dancers of Melbourne, Guru Mani inaugurated the Nandikeshwara Festival in Melbourne in 2017. He continues to inspire and enrich the Melbourne Trinity Festival by his participation in the grand congregational signing on several occasions and its feature performances. It is his greatness as a percussion maestro that made Eero Haemmeneimi of Finland Naada group dedicated four compositions in his name. His venture titled "Amrutham Fusion for Freedom" is an effort. Apart from that, he has also collaborated with Japanese musician John Kaizan Neptune to create an album named "Steps in Time". In this album, Guru Karaikudi Mani has created a unique synthesis of shakuhachi and Indian percussion. In 2008, Mani collaborated with Sarangan Sriranganathan and other Australian musicians in a Classical/ Fusion concert called "Unity in Diversity". In 2011, he played on Paul Simons album So Beautiful or So What. He founded a magazine entitled Layamani Layam. During the lockdown period, we feel the need to digitise, consolidate and share the posters and articles of the momentous events (we currently hold) for record. We have requested well wishers from Australia, UK, USA, Canada and India to supply photos or print media or videos of events that Mani sir has been a part of to include them in this album. So watch out for some more images A panchanadai percussion ensemble is posted on Utube with moving images. Credit notes: Chelliah Kuganesan, Thank you heaps for editing and enhancing the audio file. Audio file performers: Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani (Mridangam), G. Harishankar (Khanjira), T V Vasan (Ghatam), Srirangam S Kannan (Morsing) Various chapter heads of Sruthi-laya supplied their momentous photos for inclusion in this album. Further many Melbourne Artists, well wishers and photographers were kind enough to let us share their photography.

05.01.2022 The best interest evoked yet: Dear Smt. Shobha Sekar, Namaskaram.... I am a resident of Glenroy, originally from Chennai, India. I have a 10-month-old daughter. What I am going to tell here might make me sound crazy or like an over-enthusiastic mother. However, I just want to ensure that I support my daughter in every way possible. My little girl seems to be very much interested in Carnatic music. I am not exaggerating even though it is a little early to know for sure. I am not sure if it is natural for such a little girl to prefer listening to Pancharathna keerthanai, thillana and other great renditions over a nursery rhyme. Every day she listens to concerts on YouTube and enjoys every little nuance of the renditions. When she listens to a song repeatedly, she even starts to get excited and tries mimicking when the aalapanai starts. I would like to help her pursue her interest here. I know this is very early, but I know a few friends of mine from music families back home who started learning music at a very early age. I would like to know at what age would you start accepting shishyas. Meanwhile, it would be great if you can tell me if there is anything I can do to keep her interest ignited.

If there is a first world and t...he first mother its you, Shobhaji as a Guru and mother for Vaidehi. Not in this birth for many births to come, we remain indebted to you for all the knowledge, care and affection you have unconditionally showered on our daughter. It was always challenging to bring up children in this western world and Lord Almighty sent you as His guide, nourisher and wellwisher. It has been a long time pending to have you all for a nice feast at our house and hope with restrictions easing, we will have it soon. You are and will remain a great inspiration for Vaidehi to tread a path as you and serve the community as a divine offering at Lord Almightys Lotus feet.
