24.01.2022 What are adaptogens? Swipe to read When I heard about adaptogens I thought it was too good to be true. These herbs offer the wide range of health benefits and for so many parts of our body. it is an intelligent herb that can have multi directional properties. When ingested these adaptogens communicate with your body to see what it needs to keep a homeostasis state. To be named adaptogens there are certain criteria they must meet. Because these herbs are used in Ayurvedic m...edicine and TCM its important to differentiate between the words tonics and the scientific term adaptogen. Most adaptogens can be said to be tonics/rasayanas however many of Ayurvedic rasayanas and TCM tonics are not. There are many confusions around labelling adaptogens but only 9 are well researched adaptogens. There are a few more that are probably adaptogens but have less researches behind them. I believe adaptogens will play an incredibly role to support us in this modern society. how blessed we are to be able to include this wisdom Do you use these adaptogens? any questions? what are your go to? leave the comments below See more

21.01.2022 Running a place like Shoku Iku, all of my customers know the importance of eating consciously. I have met many inspiring people through this place. Meredith certainly is one of these people. She radiates joy and gratitude in person, just like her luscious illustrations. She lives what she teaches. Meredith Gaston is an Internationally acclaimed author, artist, INN Health Coach and speaker. Her bestselling books celebrate kind and joyous living and offer endless inspiration... for those seeking upliftment, peace, and greater wellbeing.I adore her gratitude book Seeing ourselves worthy of our own love and care doesnt come naturally for many of us. It takes constant reminders and sometimes uncovering some uncomfortableness. But little by little, and with tools, rituals that Meredith will be going over in this session and a conversation like this will help us inspired to see the incredible light in ourselves . Cant wait to tune in 7:30pm instagram live here @shokuiku

20.01.2022 What I look for when I am sourcing my medicinal mushrooms and herbs The world of medicinal mushrooms and herbs are getting popular now. It’s been great to see this movement unfold. I do get disappointed sometimes with the the quality of the products on the market. ... Here are what I look for when I am sourcing my mushrooms for my business. Hope this helps you when you are deciding where to get them from and my philosophy behind it. As always nothing is black and white. It really depends on what resonates with you and feels right. What I believe strongly is that these herbs are not just supplements. They need to be grown and harvested with the respect for their wisdom and it’s long history.

20.01.2022 Ingredients: 3 cups buckwheat 1/2 cup sunflower 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds 1/4 cup chia seed ... 1/2 cup date paste 1 cup amazake 1/2 cup cacao nibs Preparation: Soak buckwheat, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds in water over night. Sprout if you prefer. Soak chia seeds in 3/4 cup water. Steps: Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Place the mixture on teflex sheets and dehydrate till completely. Note on amazake If you dont have amazake you can replace it with more date paste. I love amazake because of sweet Umami that gives to a dish as well as its high nutrients and gut friendly properties. It is a fermented rice mixture using koji. I always source koji from @koji_and_co , small batch organic koji grower based in Melbourne. Koji is an essential ingredient for making miso as well as many other delicious condiments.

20.01.2022 We tend to shy away from talking about sex and our sexuality. Though in many philosophy and traditional practices sexuality is connected to our base vitality, and creativity. We cannot talk about holistic wellbeing without talking about sexuality. Sex can be a powerful tool to come home to ourselves and connect with our bodies. It is to know that we can still embrace desire and pleasure, and that we are worthy of both. ... Im excited to be introducing @vanessa.muradian.sexologist from @miamuse.pleasure Mia Muse focuses on women's greater wellness, to connect women intimately with themselves, through cultivating sensuality, vitality and love. Vanessa loves to weave sensuality into our everyday - a beautiful gateway to vibrant sexuality. Vanessa will be creating a space to explore and express our sexuality as self-care and self love. 7:30pm instagram live @shokuiku Bring questions and ready to bring more into our lives

19.01.2022 In Kampo (Japanese traditional medicine) the focus is always on the patients and their bodies. It is never a doctor or medicine/herb. Their job is to bring out the body’s natural ability to balance itself and heal. From what I have studied this idea is wildly accepted in holistic and other eastern modalities. Even though we as individuals need to be empowered to take our wellbeing and health into our own hands it is also important to have the support from people who are wel...l experienced and knowledgeable in various fields. For me Daniel from @komyunitiwellness has been one of these people. His acupuncture and moxa have been my protocols for years. We have been talking about self-care and looking after our mental health this month. Daniel has kindly shared acupuncture point that may help you feel less stressed, have better sleep and more mindful. The ear shenmen point is located at the top inside region of your ear( in the triangular fossa). Massage this point several times and minutes during the day. I will link his article in the story so that you can read more about the point and the connection between ear points and our nervous system. Have you experienced acupuncture or any other healing techniques that have been helpful for your health?

18.01.2022 I have a personal connection with Reishi and sometimes with others depending on what I am going through in life. An advantage of taking a single herb or mushroom is that you can create and deepen the relationship. (It is how I see these amazing plant allies. For me they are not just supplements or isolated nutrients) Saying that we know that Mushrooms work in synergy, meaning that they may be more effective when working together. They may be increasing immune stimulations mo...re than when taken alone. Our blend is a combination of Reishi, Chaga, Cordyceps, Lions Mane, Maitake, Shiitake, Poria, Meshima and Turkey Tail. These top medicinal and tonic mushrooms are selected to support over all wellbeing, especially to benefit immunity, hormones, vitality, physical and mental performance. 13.01.2022 We have been focusing on how to deal with stresses this month. Coming to the end of the month I wanted to share the two approaches I think about when choosing what herbs to take. Herbs that are known to be helpful for stresses can have different energies. One is to take herbs that are calming so that you can relax and get the rest you need. Another is to take adaptogens which may have more of a stimulating properties so that you can still get through the day without feeling ...too stressed. Remember I see adaptogens like a loan from the bank (or a friend). They will help you but we still need to adjust what is causing as stressors. However there are some herbs that can help you see the world in calmer and grounded way. It is a little bit like the herbs sharing their wisdom so that things don’t affect you as much. I hope this video helps and Let me know your thoughts

13.01.2022 So many of us are spending more time at home these days. I am planning a few online fun things to keep us connected in the next several weeks. 12.01.2022 In eastern traditional medicine, herbs and medicinal mushrooms are almost always extracted usually in a form of tea. Many herbs and mushrooms have tough exterior which are not bio available when consumed raw. I love making tea with whole herbs. The smell of the boiling tea in my house (even with my daughters disapproval ) and seeing the goodness coming out into the water. There is something so special working with whole herbs. ... Depending on the types the required extraction time is different. But the simplest way is to determine what parts of herbs you are using. Root, mushrooms take the longest. I might let these herbs simmer for a few hours, sometimes multiple times. I dont tend to simmer flower or leaves for long, if at all. Most of the times simple infusion of these parts of plants is efficient. Most of us are so busy and dont have the time to brew herbs this way. Its also challenging to find good quality whole herbs, especially exotic ones. The most important thing is to include your herbs and mushrooms regularly and extracts are more convenient and potent way to do so. Our extracts are 10:1 ratio. It means that if we are to start from 10kg herbs, after the extraction 1kg is left. It is concentrated enough but not too concentrated that body doesnt recognise the source. Are you brewing any tea at the moment? What herbs are you loving?

11.01.2022 Omg. I am soooo excited for this. Join me for 5 day raw food reset to feel more energised, lighter, and nourished. 09.01.2022 Lets talk about stress. It is useful to know the types of stress you are experiencing so that you can identify where you want to focus on, and how to minimise and manage the stresses. ACUTE EPISODIC ACUTE... CHRONIC Acute It is a severe form of stress that demands an immediate response. It may come as a life threatening situations, fight with someone or getting fired from a job. It can subside when you feel safe after but it can also cause post traumatic stress disorders. EPISODIC ACUTE This type of stress is similar to acute stress but it happens frequently. It may be coming from constant deadlines at work, or negative and worrying outlook in life that might put people in episodic acute stress. CHRONIC This stress is ongoing for a longer period of time. It is constant and doesnt go away easily. It may come from financial struggle, unhappy relationship and living through pandemic. Stress factors broadly fall into four types of categories. PHYSICAL STRESS This stress is mainly occur from physical injury, fatigue, intense exercise as well as environmental pollution nutritional deficiencies and substance abuse. PHYCHOLOGICAL STRESS This stress can manifest from emotional stress, self loathing, anxiety and information overload. PHYCHOSOCIAL STRESS This stress can come from relationship difficulties, social isolation and lack of social support PHYCHO-SPIRITUAL STRESS This kind of stress is mainly associated with a sense of meaningless and joyless life and misalignment with spiritual beliefs. All stress is not bad. It can makes us resilient, adapt and stronger physically and emotionally. But it tends to become problems when it becomes chronic. It can suppress immune system, hormonal imbalance, energy levels and our mood. One of the worst thing about chronic stress is that we get used to it and forget what its like to live without it. How are you really feeling? Have you sat in your body lately?

09.01.2022 Last video of the series, we have been talking about schisandra berries this week. This berry is pretty impressive how it can affect your health in so many levels. The main benefits I think of when it comes to schisandra berries are the liver and skin health. Dozens of studies have proven the potency of schisdanra including healing fatty liver disease from alcohol. It has shown to decrease liver enzymes, increase cytochrome P450 activity and accelerating the prolification ...of hepatocytes, which is instrumental for liver repair and regeneration. If you have seen schisandra berries in cosmetic formula there is a good reason. Its anti-aging, antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties can benefit your skin internally and externally. (Check out my friends over @terratonics cleanser ) Schisandra doesnt stop there. I have recommended these berries for skin health and so many times theyd come back telling me about bonus benefits in bedroom ( or wherever it happens ) Read more via link in bio See more

04.01.2022 If you find yourself wondering what else you can make in the kitchen with more time you likely do have Here is a recipe for homemade mustard The full video on @youtube https://youtu.be/3fbLfkCBJmA... You can use White, Yellow, Brown, Black Mustard Seeds or the combination. Darker mustard seeds are spicier. Soak mustard seeds in water (not in the recipe, enough to cover) for an hour or so. After soaking, drain the seeds and add mustard powder. Soak them in water for 10 minutes. You can also use other liquid such as beer, wine, juice to initiate the chemical reaction that releases the familiar mustard flavor. Use Cold liquid if you like it spicier. Use warm liquid to make it milder. Add vinegar and salt. And optional Sweetener, Horseradish, Herbs and Spices to taste. If adding sweetener I would add about 1 - 2 tbs. Allow it to sit covered for 24 hours at room temperature. This will remove some bitterness. 4 tbs mustard seeds 4 tbs mustard powder 90ml water ( or other liquid) 2 tbs vinegar 1 tsp salt

01.01.2022 Is turmeric milk still as trendy? I dont know if it is but turmeric is still an amazing healing plant. Its been used for conditions like joint pain, digestive problems, and known to be anti inflammatory, anti microbial and more.
