25.01.2022 WHAT IS REEF SAFE SUNSCREEN?! An estimate of 4,000 6,000 tons of sunscreen enters the reef each year. This becomes concentrated on popular tourist areas and exposes sea life and underwater ecosystem to the chemicals of sunscreen. . Sunscreen is classified by companies as ‘reef safe’ when the ingredients list doesn’t contain Octinoxate Oxybenzone, Cinnamates, Petrolatum or Parabens. These are chemicals that have been studied and proven to be harmful to the reef, causing co...ral bleaching, and disturbing sea life. . However, sunscreens labelled as ‘natural’ or ‘Reef Friendly’ do not automatically mean that it is the right option to choose. These terms are not regulated and do not account for the harmful aspect of Nano Particles in sunscreens and its impact on coral and sea creatures. . WHAT ARE NANO PARTICLES IN SUNSCREEN? To avoid the white (not rubbed in) look on your face after applying natural sunscreen, companies sometimes break down chemicals to form Nano Particles, achieving sun protection without a white film. . However, not only does it create a less effective sunscreen due to the chemicals being broken down to Nano Particles, it makes ingredients of a mineral sunscreen now dangerous to the marine ecosystem. Generally, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide are fine in water, however, it is when they are fragmented to Nano Particles in sunscreens that they are no longer reef friendly. . WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING SUNSCREEN If it contains Octinoxate (octyl methoxycinnamate), Oxybenzone (benzophenone-3), Cinnamates, Petrolatum or Parabens then avoid! Find mineral sunscreens that say ‘Non-Nano’, ‘Water Resistant’ and are made from Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. Cream sunscreen over aerosol sunscreen is the way to go. Look for broad spectrum as it protects you from both UVA and UVB rays Caring for both yourself and the environment means finding sunscreens that tick all the boxes above as well as being non-toxic and vegan (We don’t want any nasty chemicals just sitting on our skin for hours!). . 21.01.2022 WE NEED YOUR HELP Whilst we normally share positive sustainability stories to motivate and build hope amongst the community. Today is different. The fire in our bellies has taken over and we need your help. . Did you spot the change to Manhattan's famous clock?! It's been reprogrammed to display the time left to act before the climate emergency becomes irreversible. Whilst I think this is an awesome idea to spread awareness and spark immediate action, I'd be lying if... I said I didn't tear up instantly as I played out the timeline in my head...7 years? . @fridaysforfuture , the climate movement inspired by Greta Thunberg, has called for a global day of climate action TODAY. . WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW The Australian Federal Government has announced plans to support the gas industry with millions of dollars in Covid-19 'recovery' funding, annnnd we're not here for it! Gas is a harmful fossil fuel that will turbocharge the climate crisis. We stand for no public funding for gas and other damaging fossil fuel projects! . WHERE WE NEED THE RECOVERY FUNDING TO GO: 1. Resourcing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander-led solutions that guarantee land rights & care for country 2. The creation of jobs that fast-track solutions to the climate crisis & help communities recover 3. Projects that transition our economy & communities to 100% renewable energy by 2030. . WHAT YOU CAN DO *During this pandemic we strongly advise striking responsibly, in small COVID safe groups, or preferably online.* We know these events can be overwhelming, so we've shared some of @schoolstrikeforclimate ways to take action below. USE YOUR VOICE: Take a selfie or recruit a small group of mates (abiding by COVID safe rules) & take a photo holding a sign with this message: 'FUND OUR FUTURE NOT GAS'. Post on all your social channels & create a ripple effect. Let those creative juices flow! SIGN A PETITION: Support the strike without leaving your seat by signing this petition. 21.01.2022 A GAME CHANGING LAW Denmark has just passed a law that makes a governments failure to act on climate change illegal! . What does this mean? Well, if a climate goal is set to be achieved by 2030 and several governments are in and out of power between now and then, there is a possibility that they can pass off blame to previous governments if the goal is not met. .... Denmark's new law hopes to avoid climate change deadlines being missed and hold all governments accountable by forcing them to step down if they fail to meet climate targets. . Each year, the government in power will need to find a majority parliamentary approval of its global and national climate strategies. This means that climate change cannot be forgotten about and action will not be delayed!! . Who thinks this should be a law everywhere?! . Tag a friend who would love this! . 20.01.2022 LETS TALK SUSTAINABLE ROAD DEVELOPMENT PlastiPhalt is a game changing product in sustainable road development that recycles soft plastics, glass bottles, printer cartridges, and even plastic from old cars to create a bitumen-like formula. It was created in collaboration by Downer, @closetheloopinc, and the Red Group. . This awesome solution diverts waste from landfill and reduces the need for non-renewable resources used to produce standard asphalt pavements. The bonus is ...that the plastic is completely dissolved into the bitumen, avoiding the risk of micro-plastics coming out of the pavement. . The road stays together by using recycled plastics instead of oil. Did we mention experts believe it is even more durable than standard bitumen?! . It is currently being used in various Aussie states and countries across the world. A 300 meter street in Melbournes north contains 200,000 plastic bags, 63,000 glass bottles, and toner from 4,500 used printer cartridges mixed with asphalt. The rubbish inside the road is the equivalent to the amount the residents of that street would have collected over 10 years. How awesome is that?! . This product proves that items in landfill have economic, social and environmental value. . Tag a friend who would find this interesting See more

19.01.2022 COMMENT IF YOU AGREE?! Last week was powerful. The group of people fighting for climate justice in Australia is growing fast. Tens of thousands of people used their voices and took action last week, that in itself makes us so so happy. . Here are the numbers for last week from SS4C Australia: 630 actions were held! Which is the most widespread action against publicly funded gas in Aus!... SS4C demands were endorsed by unions representing 1.5 million workers, and 100's of other organisations and businesses. Even gas and oil workers took action! The media produced 552 newspaper and online stories, and 304 radio and TV stories. Scott Morrison's office was flooded with 100's of calls, with all next week booked up too! 1000's of people joined the online rally Countless new people were empowered to use their voice and stand up for their future! . This is just the beginning, there is more work to be done, but what an amazing start. Well done to all those who participated and spread the word. It's not too late if you haven't, keep using your voice! Head to our blog for more info on how you can do that! . 02.01.2022 HAVE YOU MADE THIS SWITCH?! Our customer Tahlia nailed exactly how we felt after making the switch with her review: "Absolutely no regret As far as this razor goes compared to other razors, I can't really comment. But I can comment on my experience going between single use razors to this product, and honestly I'm amazed that this is not the norm. .... It's easier to use than I expected. I was worried about being more prone to nicks, but that doesn't seem to be the case, plus it's a closer shave without me feeling any drag, which I think has lead to less ingrown hairs and the like. It's very easy to clean, and being metal wouldnt hold as much bacteria i would expect which has probably helped reduce skin issues too. . The weight of the handle makes me think of a fountain pen, where there is no need to push down as the weight of the handle is all that's needed for it to work properly. . If you're worried about how easy the product is to use, even my clumsy self finds it better. And if price is your concern, I would say I would spend about as much on a couple skin products that wouldn't resolve my skin problems as quickly as this razor did. I'm confident this is my favourite reusable conversion yet." . Head to our blog via this link: https://goforzero.com.au//zero-blog/are-reusable-razors-sc to read why single-use razors should be ditched for good! . Tag a friend who would love this swap See more
