24.01.2022 What cant you eat after weight loss surgery? Zoe, our dietitian, talks through some of these things in our latest blog post. http://www.livingwithasleeve.com/cant-eat-sleeve-gastrecto/

23.01.2022 Becoming an intuitive eater is so important to make sure you are comfortable when youve eaten and for keeping weight off in the long term. Loving this #ThursdayTherapy session from Glenn Mackintosh at Weight Management Psychology . What do you think?

23.01.2022 Do we make you count calories after weight loss surgery? Not here... and heres why... -- Zoe http://www.livingwithasleeve.com/count-calories-after-slee/

22.01.2022 This is actually going to be a blog post in upcoming weeks, as it can be a big problem after sleeve gastrectomy. Having a sleeve is a big adjustment for you, but its just as big of an adjustment for your family. Whilst most family members are really suppportive, Often family members will worry that youre not eating enough, or worry that youre losing weight too fast, or even just struggle with the fact that you take so long to eat a meal. Sometimes friends can struggle wit...h your changing confidence and even be a little jealous of your weight loss. My biggest piece of advice here is to talk with them. Be open and honest with them, try not to get frustrated and defensive. Bring family or room mates along to appointments with the surgeon and dietitian so they can ask all of their questions and feel reassured that everything is okay. If you need to, see a family counsellor it can really help to air everything with a supportive person in the room. --Zoe

22.01.2022 Your hunger and fullness signals will feel different to before your sleeve. Listen carefully to your stomach when eating. On a hunger scale of 0-10 where 0 is absolutely starving and 10 is Christmas Day full, aim to stay between a 3 and 7. Avoid getting over-hungry (less than 3/10) as this leads to... eating too fast or too much at the next meal. If youre hungry between meals, have a small snack. Stop eating as soon as you feel satisfied or not hungry anymore (7/10) remember your body takes about 20 minutes to register how full you are. If you eat more than this youll feel uncomfortable. 21.01.2022 VSG FAQ: Does sleeve surgery hurt? Youve had a big surgery, so there will be pain although the degree to which you have pain varies so much. Some people are really quite sore, but others say they dont feel a thing! The best way to prepare for this is to prepare mentally, and expect it. If you dont have much then it will be a bonus! Also be sure to ask for pain relief when you are in hospital and upon discharge, so youre not going home with pain that you cant manage.... If you do have pain, usually it will settle down by 2-3 weeks after the surgery at the latest. If your pain is getting worse, or doesnt seem to be improving, or if it is too much to manage, then please please please see you surgeon again asap. Dont leave it for days in case it is something more sinister.

20.01.2022 No! I dont believe in counting calories. I believe in trusting your appetite and focusing on quality, rather than the number of calories you are eating each day. You havent had a sleeve to continue to diet (it takes too much emotional effort!) Ive discussed this in our post on Calorie Counting on our blog. -- Zoe http://www.livingwithasleeve.com/calorie-counting-sleeve-g/

14.01.2022 Have you had weight loss surgery? Are you taking a calcium supplement? If youre not, you should be! Why? The recommended Daily Intake is1000mg/day for a 19-50 year old female (and even more once you get to 51!). That equates to 3-4 serves of dairy every day. After your sleeve, to eat 3-4 serves of dairy each day would mean that youre really not able to eat much else! So Each day you need to take 1200 to 1500mg of calcium in total as a mix of calcium eaten in your diet a...nd as a calcium citrate supplement. Taking calcium citrate, rather than calcium carbonate is extremely important so make sure you check the bottle. Brands that currently use calcium citrate include Swisse, and Citracal and this new one I just found in the pharmacy, Healthy Care. Ask your pharmacist if youre not sure. You also need to spread the doses out over the day (i.e one tablet at each meal) and try to leave at least 2 hours between taking the calcium and your multivitamin and iron tablet as these two dont play nicely. -- Zoe See more
