19.01.2022 As we commemorate Anzac Day by Lighting Up The Dawn on our driveways, we use this time of reflection to honour the contribution and suffering of all those who have served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning... We will remember them. Lest we forget

18.01.2022 Students! Please watch this one minute video by the world’s top female kata champion - Rika Usami - https://youtu.be/Zf9G4Xhgm8g As you will see, it is Fuku kata ni. I expect all students to have a similar standard by the end of this term. ... Not really of course! But we hope you are inspired by her mastery, skills and technique Sensei Peter

18.01.2022 We love this memory from 5 years ago that popped up today... it was our humble little dojo celebrating our first year on the Northern Beaches. So proud to see that 3 of these white/yellow belt students are now 2nd kyu brown belt and still going strong.

17.01.2022 Wed like to congratulate Phoebe for being such a champion during her 3rd kyu brown belt grading last night! Very strong katas and bunkai so very well deserved! Pictured here amongst senior belt students (minus Sofia). NB only one missing from this photo which would have made for 3 father and daughter teams in the top crew! How good is that?!! #karatekicksbutt #fatherdaughtergoals

16.01.2022 Congratulations to the youngest student at our dojo for achieving a successful 6th kyu green belt karate grading this week. Well done Jasper! Awesome work!

16.01.2022 This term also saw the successful grading of our one of our senior students to achieve his 4th kyu purple belt. Congratulations Ben! Keep up the great work!

15.01.2022 We would like to thank everyone in our Club for your commitment to training during the term and again congratulate all students who successfully completed a grading in Term 2. Jonathan Champion is the first person in the Sydney Dojo to receive a 1st Dan (Shodan) black belt grading, having successfully completed all the Okinawan requirements necessary, as well as completing an epic 3 hour grading last Monday night. We are extremely proud of his achievements and dedication to training.

10.01.2022 In line with the latest developments issued by the Federal Government, sadly our business has been forced to shutdown for the short term. As we enter an unknown and unprecedented time we want to remind you that we are in this together. Despite physical closures and changes around us, we are a part of our community and will be working on ways to keep you connected to our karate dojo where possible, even if in the virtual space. We hope you and your families remain happy, heal...thy and safe. Peter

10.01.2022 Greetings! I trust you have been well and active over the last three months since we were required to close our Dojo doors? The good news is it appears that we are getting closer to the time when classes like our will be allowed to re-open. At this stage, however the go ahead has not been given to resume indoor exercise classes. There is outdoor training in groups taking place now and this may be an option we take up most likely training in a park one day of a weekend. When... we do resume, the health and well being of all attending will be our most important priority. We will follow the guidelines provided by NSW Health which will include specific distancing, non-contact training and regular use of hand sanitisers. Prior to our opening there will be more details regarding these protocols. So, my suggestion is to keep training in your karate basics and kata and put some focus on your stretching. Links to our katas have been sent via email and hopefully have proven helpful over this iso period. I am very excited by the chance to re-start our classes and I look forward to seeing you all again shortly. Please contact me if you have any questions. Kind regards Peter Sensei - Shorin Ryu International, Sydney 0412 384 756

08.01.2022 Kata lies at the heart of the Shorin Ryu curriculum. Kata can be described as a pattern of movements which develop the full arsenal of Karate techniques - moving, striking, defending and evading. The degree of difficulty within the kata reflects the student’s path of learning. No matter what level you are training, kata are a fusion of beauty and strength, speed, stances, breathing, timing, sense of space, focus, techniques, balance and strength. Beautifully demonstrated in the video below. https://youtu.be/Vnea9lQLp0A

08.01.2022 Share the Christmas spirit with these true super heroes.

07.01.2022 Super excited to report the recent successful first grading of mother and son team Rebecca and Pattana! They have done so well on their karate journey so far and this grading is well deserved! Congratulations

07.01.2022 Exciting news! Due to further Covid 19 restrictions easing in NSW, we will be able to resume training on Monday, June 15, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Senior students will train until 7:45pm. The health and well being of all attending will be our most important priority. We will follow the guidelines provided by NSW Health which will include distancing, no body-to-body contact (such as self-defense training) and regular use of hand sanitisers. As has been the consistent message t...hroughout the State, please do not come to class if you show any signs, however mild, which potentially could be attributed to Covid 19. This includes a temperature, sore throat or sniffles etc. Though I will provide hand sanitisers, I would appreciate it if all students can also bring their own small bottle. Each student will need to have their own gloves. If they do not have gloves then they will not be able to do any of the bag/mitt work. I look forward to seeing you back! If you have any questions please contact me on 0412 384 756. Regards. Sensei Peter Shearer

07.01.2022 An interesting article in the Good Weekend dated 24 August 2019... "How to kick-start your qi: Japans most dangerous man shows the way. A karate expert advocates focus, rather fighting, as the key to winning in life." "You heard it here first: karate will be the next big wellness trend. Obviously, with more than 50 million practitioners worldwide, its already a popular sport. After it debuts at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, its bound to become even more so. But beyond karates ...athleticism, what is less well known about it in the West is that it offers a mind-body connection of the kind commonly sought from yoga or Pilates. And its overarching philosophy that force should be a last resort, and that cultivating inner strength is an end in itself feels valuable in a world increasingly dominated by strutting machismo..." https://www.smh.com.au//how-to-kick-start-your-qi-japan-s-

01.01.2022 Congratulations to the Shorin Ryu Sydney Class of 2021 (minus a few people missing from this shot). 5 more successful gradings last night including Russell and Bridget on 8th kyu, Zoe on 7th kyu and Jess and Phoebe on 2nd kyu. Amazing commitment and focus from all who graded. Such a strong finish to an unusual year with COVID restrictions and social distancing measures impacting our regular training and practice. Well done everyone and thanks so much for being a part of our dojo. See you in 2021. Sensei Peter.
