10.01.2022 This is the inside of a cracked-open cacao pod. These pods grow on cacao trees, which flourish in areas close to the equator. Inside the pod you can see all the beans (or what's left of them after we sampled a few ). After picking, these beans are placed in a fermentation box for a few days before being sun-dried. From here, we can turn these beans into cacao nibs, powder and paste, and extract cacao butter. Cacao is a very rich source of polyphenols, which act as anti...oxidants along with a heap of health-promoting effects. Cacao is also a great source of magnesium, potassium, iron, calcium and lots more. When cacao is processed into chocolate at low temperatures, we retain many of these beneficial properties. Note that this is different to cocoa powder, (typically used in normal chocolate) which has usually been chemically processed and heated to high temperatures thereby destroying much of the antioxidants and goodness. To make a healthier choice when it comes to chocolate, choose a raw, organic fair-trade chocolate wherever you can OR even better make it yourself from these raw ingredients. We will show you how at our raw treats workshops next weekend only a few spots left!
