25.01.2022 Hi to all our SHC supporters on this page. We are being supported this weekend by MyGivingCircle who will donate $1 to us for everyone who votes this weekend. You just have to vote and we ask you to also send this message to your family and friends. Here is an example of what to say: I'm helping raise money for my favourite charity Safe Haven Community and if you vote for them this weekend, MyGivingCircle will donate $1 for each new voter. Vote for free at https://mygivingc...ircle.org/charity/safe-haven-community/ Your vote could mean they share in $200,000 of grants this year, plus for this weekend only MyGivingCircle will also donate $1 for each new voter. 200 new voters = $200 for Safe Haven Community It takes less than a minute to vote at https://mygivingcircle.org/charity/safe-haven-community/ and all you need to do is nominate Safe Haven Community as your favourite charity. Thanks for your help and please vote before midnight Sunday. Many thanks
24.01.2022 Please listen to Jaeneen Rushbrook (Cunningham) being interviewed by Rebel FM podcast about Safe Haven Community.
23.01.2022 Many times we hear that men will go to the police and lie about their wives or partners and want things on record. This is how manipulating some of them can be. This is so, when women go to the station to make a complaint, they don't believe them, because the men have got in first!! In this sad situation, 2 children are gone from this earth because of police not thinking the situation was enough of an issue. https://www.smh.com.au//edwards-told-police-his-wife-would

21.01.2022 In Brain Injury Australia Limited's first report into family violence and brain injury, key findings included: 2 in every 5 of the 16,000 victims of family violence attending Victorian hospitals over a decade had sustained a brain injury; nearly 1 in every 3 of the victims of family violence were children, and, of those, 1 in every 4 had sustained a brain injury. Brain injury is often called the 'hidden' or 'invisible' disability because its effects are not easy to see and th...e person may outwardly appear to be unaffected. National Brain Injury Awareness Week seeks to change this by giving brain injury a voice. Read the full report and its findings here: https://bit.ly/3h84UaA #BrainInjury #BrainInjuryAwareness
20.01.2022 A sad day for women all over the world. We have lost a gem.
20.01.2022 Sadly we only hear about the corruption involved in family court when women and children are murdered by their abuser. These poor children were like millions of children being forced into contact with an abusive parent. Victims of court abuse are gagged by section 121 and cannot speak of their very similar horrific experiences. We demand that the ICL in the case of Jack and Jennifer Edwards, Debbie Morton be bought before a disciplinary body. Her duty was meant to be the "bes...t interests" of Jack & Jennifer Edwards. We call for all Family Court judges, family lawyers, barristers, Family Report writers and other expert witnesses who themselves use coercive control, victim blame, victim shame, threaten and punish victims of domestic abuse to be removed immediately from Family Courts of Australia until they have been investigated and held to account. Debbie Morton ignored evidence of abuse and pressed for contact with the violent father and threatened Olga the children’s protective parent, saying she would recommend the children be removed from their mother if she didn’t facilitate family therapy with their violent father. Hers is not unusual behaviour, but commonplace! Please contact us at NCPA.org.au for support if you have experienced similar court abuse in Australia. 16.01.2022 Young Georgia Brodrick feared for her life so much that she risked death to escape an abusive partner. She jumped from her apartment balcony - and survived. But now she is recovering from multiple injuries and needs to use a wheelchair. He would sit at the front door and beg me to stay. He’d take my phone off me so I couldn’t call my parents. He’d smash it so it wouldn’t work. I was so trapped, she told The Sunday Telegraph. We were fighting that morning because he’d cheat...ed on me. I called my dad and said: ‘Can you please come and get me, he’s getting violent again’. I had a shower and I don’t really remember the rest because my brain has blocked out the trauma but after that I jumped. He pushed me to that point. I felt like there was no way out of the relationship. See more

08.01.2022 It's amazing how wonderful social capital is. I have the pleasure of knowing Matt Brannelly who is a great supporter of NFP's, his introduction to wonderful women Amanda Sartor ended with me writing a grant with the Frizelle Charitable Foundation to help us secure premises for Safe Haven Community to help women fleeing domestic abuse into crisis accommodation. We had lost hope during the last 5 years with no funding support. But, last week we were advised that we won that Gr...ant for the premises! We are absolutely thrilled and now will have our Head Office in Southport on the Gold Coast. Thank you Matt, what a wonderful man you are. And the biggest thank you to Trish at the Frizelle Charitable Foundation. We are truly blessed that the Foundation is supporting a great cause like ours. We will now be able to support more women with other services, like court advocacy and witness preparation & they can come into the office for more support & guidance. Yay!!!
08.01.2022 We have a woman in care at the moment. She's been with one of our phenomenal Providers just on two weeks now. When she first came to us, she could barely have a conversation where she wasn't crying her heart out, and there were a LOT of conversations. Every time we spoke she would tell me how grateful she was to be looked after so kindly. Her Provider was so welcoming and caring. A few days ago she called me and I could tell by her voice that she had good news. She rang to ...say she wanted me to be the first to hear that she had just been approved for a one bedroom unit. In less than a week, this woman has gone from being broken, lost and frightened to being excited about her future. She cried again when she said her unit was going to be set up and furnished for her. But then she summed up her whole experience with Safe Haven Community in a few words... "Thank you for having faith in me" See more
07.01.2022 Maya Angelou’s traumatic childhood changed the trajectory of her life. She lived in silence for many years, afraid for her safety and the safety of her loved on...es. America couldn’t handle her truth when she finally shared what happened, and was quick to ban her story but it caught like wildfire. This story changed the world and yours can, too. See more

03.01.2022 We need tougher laws to clamp down on repeated DVO breaches and controlling behaviour.
02.01.2022 A women's husband dies and she is kicked out of the home. She goes to stay with her daughter to find her relationship controlling and asks mum to leave or he will get angry with me. She is homeless. Safe Haven Community has a provider that is away in the Sunshine Coast. Lets the women into her home to stay on her own. Neighbour looks in on her every now and then. Have you ever heard of such a thing! A stranger being let into your home! The reason is, she is a Safe Haven Community Provider and trusts us completely with doing our job and what our service provides. www.safehavencommunity.com.au
