24.01.2022 These two photos sum up our beautiful school.... 23 years of absolute love and joy for the kids that passed through our doors First one is a very busy circus class and the second was our annual gathering at Maccas after a concert or performance. For those who dont know I closed the doors on Showbiz at the start of the year- one of the hardest decisions Ive ever had to make. The highs from running the school were the absolute best- I loved watching the kids reach for ...the stars and fly high, their accomplishments no matter how big or small were my accomplishments and the joy I had was euphoric.... but the lows and stress finally took a toll on my heart and my health. I will go through all my photos and start posting our amazing journey over the years. Im grateful to the beautiful friends Ive made and best of all watching my students go from being tiny tots to amazing adults. Much love to all my Showbiz family always

01.01.2022 A Dancers Guide to the life of Kobe Bryant Hey all, just sharing a few reflections on the life of Kobe Bryant. For those who dont follow sports, he was an ico...n, THE true standard of excellence for basketball for 20 years. Think Baryshnikov, think Misty Copeland. Like professional dance, pro basketball required super-human physical and mental toughness. But some may not know that basketball also requires a finesse and grace that comes with studying and honing technique over thousands of hours of practice, rehab and grueling physical therapy when no one is looking...so much of what we endure as dancers who just want to do what we love, and do it at a high level. Kobe even took up Tap dancing to strengthen and protect his body for basketball!! He was lucky enough to have one of his daughters, Gianna, fall in love with basketball. Any of us with kids can relate to the hope that our kids will actually enjoy what we do...and its oh-so-sweet when that kid even wants to learn from Mom or Dad! Kobe was on his way to Giannas b-ball game when the crash occurred that took their lives, and the lives of 7 others. Being from Portland I was never much of a fan of Kobes basketball team (Lakers), but I have to say that I became more of a fan of his when he was retired from basketball, got into film-making, and actually won an Oscar for a fantastic animated short film! So many that leave their "big stage" struggle to figure out what to do, and he made an amazing career transition...And the fact that he took Tap dance just kinda put it over the top. My hubby was a HUGE, 20-year fan of Kobes so hes crushed...its hard to see anyone leave this world too soon, and certain not someone like Kobe who became an icon of excellence, hard-work and passion for so many around the world. So if any of your students are wondering about Kobe Bryant this week: please tell them that yes, he was the "Misty Copeland" or "Baryshnikov" of basketball :-P Tell them that he worked really hard, especially when no one was watching. He practiced, he struggled, he insisted on his own personal best. He was a dad. And yes, Kobe Bryant was a Tap student.
