15.01.2022 20 YEARS...FROM ONE! TO MAMMA MIA! The Show Company is celebrating two decades of entertaining Tasmanian audiences! We were thrilled that our major production for this special anniversary was the Tasmanian Premiere of MAMMA MIA!, which played to over 8,000 people at the Theatre Royal (Hobart) in January. But did you know that one of the stars of the show the amazing Mandy Lowrie, who played Donna was also in our very first Show Company production 20 years ago and featured... on the poster? In December 2000 we presented the song and dance spectacular ONE! at the Peacock Theatre, which showcased 26 songs from 14 different musicals and two movies. Mandy (then Cashion) performed alongside Matthew Broadhurst, Kalo Lowe (then Cocker), Petr Divis, Gail Friswell, Chris Hamley, Andrew Short, Nicole Farrow (then Simms), Matt Skinner and Rebecca Thomson, with Peter McIntosh playing acoustic guitar, electric guitar and banjo! The show included songs such as ‘Seasons of Love’ from RENT, ‘All That Jazz from CHICAGO, ‘One Night in Bangkok’ from CHESS and of course ‘One’ from A CHORUS LINE. Petr and Peter musically directed, Mandy and Gail choreographed, and the fabulous lighting was designed by the late, great Don Gay. 11.01.2022 LOOKING BACK...ONE MORE! The success of The Show Company’s very first production ONE! in 2000 brought constant calls for a reprise, and three years later we were back at the Peacock Theatre with ONE MORE!. Mandy Lowrie (then Cashion) and Chris Hamley who played Donna and Sam in MAMMA MIA! earlier this year returned for the sequel show along with fellow original cast members Petr Divis, Gail Friswell, Nicole Farrow (then Simms) and Kalo Lowe (then Cocker). They were joined... by four new performers making their Show Company debut: Mark Wójcik and Jeff Keogh (both also recently seen in MAMMA MIA!), Rachel Webb and Stuart Pearce. Peter McIntosh was back on guitar, co-musically directing with Petr, and Don Gay returned as lighting designer. Mandy, Gail, Rachel and Kalo choreographed various numbers among the line-up of 28 songs from 19 different musicals, two movies and a TV series! They included songs from RENT, CHESS, THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, GODSPELL and INTO THE WOODS, and children from the Legato Youth Choir made a special appearance for two songs ‘The Vaults of Heaven’ from WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND and ‘Any Dream Will Do’ from JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. Jon has worked with our creative team in several shows over the years, and most recently constructed locally-built elements for the set of our fabulous production of MAMMA MIA! at the Theatre Royal.
