17.01.2022 Wearing a seatbelt is one of easiest ways to protect drivers and passengers in a vehicle. Stopping suddenly imposes a great deal of force on all objects in the vehicle. A seatbelt distributes that force to some of the strongest parts of the human anatomy - the chest and pelvis. #MessageInMotion @RoadSafetyCommission

16.01.2022 Were nearing the end of our Women in Surf profiles and I guess you could say.weve saved some of the best for last. This week were introducing Deb Bird, an individual whose contribution to senior leadership at Secret Harbour SLSC is nothing short of inspiring. Debs Surf Lifesaving journey began in 2004 after joining as a nipper parent and straightway, she jumped into help out wherever she needed - which turned out to be everywhere! Deb is one of those valuable members... who, over the years, has volunteered in every capacity from helping with the Nipper BBQ, to Age Managing, from organising state competitions to water safety & volunteer patrols. But its her service on the Board of Management and SLSWA SurfSports Advisory Committee thats transformed the face of senior leadership at Secret Harbor SLSC. Recently, theres been a shift to acknowledge that the lack of female representation in leadership roles often deters women from stepping into senior management positions. Deb has served on Secret Harbour SLSCs Board of Management for 7 + years and has inadvertently served as a catalyst for change. Debs leadership has inspired subsequent generations of female leaders at Secret Harbour, to the point where, every year since Deb first joined the Board, Secret Harbour has had a gender even Board of Management. Theres a saying that encapsulates Deb contribution to our club You cant be, what you cant see. For her contribution to our club Deb has won many awards from City of Rockingham Volunteer Sports Start of the Year 2016 to Best Club person for SHSLSC in 2010. In 2018, Deb was quite rightly awarded life membership for her significant and exemplary contribution to our club. Shes now one of only four female life members at Secret Harbour SLSC, a statistic were sure, will change drastically over the next few years.

06.01.2022 BEACH ACCESS // Works are currently underway (Thu 17 Dec) to relocate our patrol observation tower over to the north side of the main beach access pathway. Please avoid this part of the beach until approximately 4:00pm today and keep a safe distance from the marked exclusion zone where the work is taking place. Lifeguards will still be on patrol today - the patrolled area can be accessed by the beach path near the south side of the club building, adjacent to the basketball court. Thank you for your cooperation - if you have any questions please contact our office on 9524 7092.
06.01.2022 The lifesaving observation tower at #SecretHarbour has now been moved to its new and improved location on the north side of the main beach access pathway. The new spot will provide better observation capability for our lifesavers and works better within the preferred patrolling area. As you can imagine, moving a patrol tower is no small feat! Thank you to the team at City of Rockingham Local Government for making it happen: Nathan and Marta for organising the move and Marty for doing the site works (another good job from Marty!). #surflifesaving #lotterywest #slswa

05.01.2022 With support from Channel 9, well be rounding off our celebration of 40 years of Women in Surf at SHSLSC by profiling six ladies who have dedicated significant time to our organisation and shaped the club we know today. Next up is Tahlia, a young lady that shows leadership and organisational skills far beyond her years. Tahlia has practically grown up in Surf Lifesaving after her parents enrolled her in the Dolphin program at age five and shes prime example of how Surf Life...saving develops our leaders of tomorrow. Since finishing Nippers, Tahlia has served her club with a level of maturity we normally see from people twice her age. Shes held the roles of Junior Club Captain, Age Manager and has been a carnival team manager - which involved coordinating U8s and U9s in all beach and water events, whilst also coaching juniors during her senior year at SHSLSC. Tahlias strength and skill as a Surf lifesaver is evident in her lifesaving capabilities and her competition skills. When we see women as strong and capable as Tahlia competing across multiple events in Surf Lifesaving its hard to imagine there was EVER a time when women were excluded from competing. A young lady who has always shown strength and determination when completing beneath the blue and red stripes, gaining numerous medals at country states, receiving champion girl in 2017 and 2018, receiving the youth Bevan medal and being selected to take part in the SLSWA TOAD rise up camp. Tahlias commitment to volunteer patrols is always first and foremost. She holds her bronze medallion, ARTC, radio operators award and has been a critical member of our patrolling cohort - completing prolific patrol hours. Recently, Tahlia showed leadership and knowledge beyond her years when she coordinated a serious spinal rescue on a member of the public which resulted in a positive outcome for all involved! We asked Tahlia to sum up her experience and involvement in Surf Lifesaving at SHSLSC and were blown away by her answer. Growing up, the club taught me so many life long skills, so, when I was older I wanted to make sure I passed on these important lessons to younger members and gave back to an organisation that was an integral part of my childhood. Were super proud Tahlia is one of us and hugely grateful shes sticking around to inspire the next generation of future young leaders. #channel9 #slswa @terrytrathen
