25.01.2022 Ikigai (, Living Your Purpose in Life

23.01.2022 Thursday, 17th December 2020. At our Hillside dojo we held our last class of the year. Tomorrow night is our last night of the year at the Westmeadows dojo. Tonight we held a grading for those members who continued to train through the COVID-19 pandemic and supported the club by submitting videos for critique, and took an active part in our Zoom classes. We have been back just 3 weeks since we were released from a hard lockdown. Fortunately Melbourne has survived the vir...us after we closed our dojos on 23rd March. In Melbourne we have now recorded 49 days straight of no coronavirus infections. This pic shows our Hillside Members at the end of our class. Thank you to all Hillside members for your support. We can look forward now to a happy Christmas with a covid normal life, and looking forward to classes restarting in the new year. Thank you for your support !! Graeme, Shihan See more

22.01.2022 This is a screen shot of last night's Zoom class. Some members have not joined in, so we are hoping to have you join us soon!!!

22.01.2022 We have just completed our first night back for 2021!! Dojos at Hillside and Westmeadows have returned to continue studying and practicing authentic Goju Ryu karate directly descended from the Founder, Chojin Miyagi, through Higa, Izumikawa, Ichikawa, and Tsubamoto to Graeme McConnell-Brown 6th Dan Shihan. We teach real goju to our classes which cater to all age groups with a minimum age of 9 years. We do not accept young children 8years and under as do other schools. Our numbers are up this year following a tough year of coronavirus lockdowns. We continued our training last year through various techniques including Zoom classes. Welcome back to our existing members and welcome those who took the big step this year to begin your karate journey!!

22.01.2022 It is with deep sadness that we now publically inform of the recent passing of our teacher, Kazunobu Tsubamoto Sensei, in Tokyo. Sensei has suffered some health issues in recent years and seemed fine but fell ill and passed away in the evening of Thursday 21st January’. We have been advised his cause of death was pneumonia. Due to current Coronavirus restrictions in Japan, the traditional Japanese funeral procedures were followed but only close family, friends and Shigaku K...Continue reading

20.01.2022 Hello everybody, Good news!!! Our Hillside dojo at Banchory Community Centre is reopening tonight 7pm to 9pm. Adding to this good news is that we are changing our Tuesday class time back to 7pm to 9pm. The dance class which was there before us has cancelled because of a lack of students. So everything is back to normal!!! If you can come tonight please come, and if the notice is too short, please come to class next week!!! See you tonight!!! Graeme, Shihan

18.01.2022 Last night, 28 September 2020, we held our regular Black Belt Keiko Class on Zoom. This session was particularly memorable because of the attendance and active involvement of Asanka Silva (Nidan). Why so??? Because last week Asanka underwent a kidney transplant operation, and attended our session from his hospital bed. Our Dan grade certificates say "and set an excellent example in martial arts". So what a great example Asanka set to actively participate in our class in ...these circumstances!!! Asanka joined our school in 2002. So for all members, Asanka has set an excellent example of martial spirit. We wish Asanka a speedy and full recovery so that he can join us in person as soon as coronavirus restrictions permit. For all members, think of Asanka when next you need motivation to attend class!!!! Our screen shot shows top left to right, Graeme Shihan, (6th Dan), Suraj, (3rd Dan), Lincoln Sensei (5th Dan), Steve, Jacob, Con Jake,Jack, and Nathan (all 1st Dans), Asanka, (2nd Dan) looking relaxed in his hospital bed, and Sean Carville (1st Dan). A great effort !!!! Graeme, Shihan See more

15.01.2022 Last night's Zoom class was a really great experience. We had 24 Members come together to demonstrate katas and receive feedback from Instructors and Black Bets. The classes are bedding in now, and everyone had a good time and learnt more about their karate. To me the class seemed more relaxed with good humour and comradeship, so thank you to everybody for contributing. Graeme, Shihan

Although our Westmeadows dojo has been operating for the last 2 weeks, next week we are also reopening our Hillside dojo. That means we are completely back to face to face classes, following Victoria's successful elimination of the Coronavirus in our state We have been locked down for months and have had our dojos closed since late March. We have held Zoom class 3 time s a week for th...e last several months, and now we are to return to full training. Thank you to all Shushin Kai members who have supported us throughout this year. 06.01.2022 The Warrior Mind-Set * The Martial Way is not a sport, hobby, or occasional pastime. It is a way of life. * Warriors belong to an elite group-one that knows no cultural boundaries. * Begin by acknowledging your warriorship. Think, feel, and act like a warrior. Set yourself apart from the rest of society by your personal excellence. Where warriorship was once a birthright, it is now a calling. * Throw away your vanity, and pursue internal objectives. Learn to recognize th...e difference between internal and external motivations. The Martial Way is a discipline devoted to the perfection of character, not the collection of prizes. Beware of rank; train to achieve personal excellence, not certificates and belts. Remember all systems are artificial. There is one true Martial Way. S1 See more
