22.01.2022 Whimsy thoughts for this Monday have me thinking back to my wedding. Budget will always be a constraint with any wedding, and so will things outside of your control like venue regulations or family expectations! For our wedding, we wanted it on the South Perth foreshore but the 11pm curfew was a downer for us, so we tacked on a high tea pre ceremony (at our reception venue) and kicked off the celebrations early! How did we avoid seeing each other before the aisle? We split th...e front space in half with some creative marquee placement (and window shutters used as temporary wall dividers) and arrived blind folded. We also wanted to include a cultural tradition of walking to the church with our guests... but walking on a 37degree day isnt fun... So we halved the distance with a cheap shuttle bus, gave out flat shoes and umbrellas, golf carts for the oldies and a pit stop with canape shooters and drinks at the half way point. Yes it cost us more, but we planned it early, budgeted in advance (contingency budget too) and everything we imagined and more came true. My advice is to think outside the box as much as possible. Dont be limited to what you are given, get creative and if you arent a creative type... invest in a planner or stylist that is... its their jam! 17.01.2022 So I know Ive been awfully quiet on the gram these past few days. Im going to be a little real with you all... Ive just been a little numb, a little lost and in a state of scramble to keep up with the admin of changing dates - thank you to all the amazing brides and event planners who have pushed to #postponedontcancel Seeing so many of my industry peers face this onslaught knowing they may not have a livelihood in 6 months time, watching so many brides say goodbye to th...eir dream day, watching the news - the toilet paper saga escalating to police patrolling shops, filtering the mixed business advice, having hard conversations with staff, waiting for test results from quarantined family members... honestly, it has just been so heart wrenching on so, so many levels. Like everyone, its all so much to deal with all at once and watching my biz take a hit yet knowing so many more people have it so much worse has put things into perspective and made it hard to grieve for a business... afterall at least I still have my health and family. All I can say, is that Ive had more conversations with people in the last few days then ever before and with every conversation, that feeling of connectedness has me realizing how together we can all really be. Its been so uplifting seeing so many lovely gestures by so many... and I know that #thesilverliningisnear For now all I can do is continue to post pretty pics of all the amazing events and weddings that we have had the privilege of being a part of. 16.01.2022 So a few weeks ago my industry was hit with the news that one of our own was diagnosed with breast cancer. A legend at her game and a serious resume of weddings and events behind her, this gun of a woman is one amazing wedding planner and not one to shy away from hard work. Still being new at this business Ive had the privilege to work with Lara and so many others in this industry and have been overwhelmed by how HARD these women work. To be in the wedding industry, you hav...e to give it your all and have a true passion for what it is that you do, because your business is your life. This news stopped me and so many of us in our tracks. A rude awakening that it could happen to any of us and its important to stop and make time for everything but work. A hard task when your job is your passion and your world outside of your family. Unfortunately, along with this blow came a second blow that health insurance wasnt going to cover her medical expenses and her extensive surgery. So... some other legends in the game have hijacked our industry event and opened it up to you all! Feel free to come have a drink with us or if you or someone you know has been affected by breast cancer, feel free to hit Lara with some support by donating a little to her cause or bid on some of the amazing auction items on offer from our friends. 12.01.2022 Wow..... um... hi 2021! What happened to Oct-no-dember? I think it's safe to say the whirlwind that was the end of last year, was HEEECTIC and we haven't stopped to look up before today and yep... Jan is nearly over... WHAAAA?? Yes, the crazy over here at Side Serve HQ has been partly self inflicted (moving warehouses, launching an-e-commerce arm... yadi-yada) but def a large portion has been unexpected and unpredictable... CUE covid and all the flow on affects like..., losing my BFF and right hand girl Tash but gaining Rika (only to lose Rika ) but replacing those guns with ma girl Kylie and hottie Chiara and a bunch of other fly in ladies with whom I can't function without! Then there was the mayhem of postponed/last minute weddings and Christmas parties galore... YASSSS(!!!) to having events back baby #thanksmarkmcgowan ! 05.01.2022 Happy windy and wet Monday all! Ive been lucky enough to have an admin day indoors today. Hope youve all managed to stay warm and inside too. Wet weather always has me in the mood for baking but unfort yesterdays GF sponge cake was nearly consumed in full today. The excuses are getting flimsy by the afternoon... one of which is having to stare at this decadent thing on my Facebook feed. 01.01.2022 Well hallo there 2020! Wow... so many feels for the start of this year. So much sadness for our poor country and so many worries for the state of our climate and world politics, but yet... a fresh decade and fresh start to the year has me optimistic about new opportunities to restart, refresh and regrow. December was a little more chaotic than I expected. Exhausted took on a whole new meaning. But... it was pretty invigorating too and gave me a lot of perspective and an unde...rstanding for the need to automate and become more efficient in this very hands on business. Moving into 2020 my main goal is all about streamlining. Making this little biz less arduous and more efficient to improve our service to you and open up new opportunities to grow and give you more. Oh and Im working on showing you a little more behind the scenes, a little more of our faces and a little more about this little biz... assuming you are interested! So... to kickstart... heres a little mug shot of me, Sabrina... biz owner. Youll usually find Im the one behind most of the emails, Im the one who responds on the socials and yes, usually thats me driving Pedro Jnr... the Side Serve Mazda. This little business is run by me but when I refer to we I often am referring to the amazing tribe of people who support me and help of whom I CANNOT function without.
