25.01.2022 Tickets for the next few weeks of Friday and Saturday sittings are now available through Humanitix. Peep the link in the comments, you can choose from two sessions each night from 6pm and 8:30pm. As we’ve mentioned the restrictions on 20 people inside per sitting means we are asking for the $50 pp upfront. If you’re looking to book for a larger group its best to give us a call on 0404 741 093 so we can accomodate appropriately. Expecting spots to fill up rather quickly so don’t sleep! We’ll be looking at opportunities for more sessions as time goes by. Apologies in advance for any ring rust as we try to adapt to new circumstances. We hope you’ll bear with us, we’re really looking forward to opening and sharing some great food, drink and music with you all

22.01.2022 Another one! Excited to announce the next Monday night pop up palooza at sideway. Shipwrecked is a night bringing together bright hospo minds who have returned to Canberra in the midst of all the madness this year. Elliot of @byrdimelb, Ben of @blackpearlfitzroy and our own Charlotte are teaming up to present Simpler Times, a night of nostalgic drinks from bygone eras. Proceeds from the night are heading towards organisations supporting young people’s mental health in and around the industry. Two sittings for this one, 6-9 and 9-Late. 21.01.2022 New staff member! If you’ve visited sideway recently you may have noticed a (un) familiar face shaking it up and sending out some serious drinks. It’s a pleasure to announce that after a spiritual spell living in Berlin, Charlotte Stevens is back in town and joining the sideway family to manage the bar. Bringing a decades worth of hospo knowledge and experience with her, Charlotte is coming onboard to help us develop and upgrade all areas of our service. Already it’s been amazing to work with someone of Charlotte’s calibre and to learn from her creativity and commitment to the craft. Charlotte is a true pro, a drinks database, and a lover of slow jams and shiny garms! Over the moon to welcome her to the team

19.01.2022 Incoming! Hyped to announce the first of a series of food n booze pop ups at sideway. We’ll be running most of these events on Monday nights to include the hard working hospo workers of Canberra. Sending out solicited noods for the first instalment with chef Lucy Holm doing the Dan Dan. Four sittings available with some very cool drink pairings to sip as you sluurrp. 19.01.2022 *Incoming COVID19 Post* Today we made the decision to temporarily halt operations and cease trading. It’s been a difficult but increasingly obvious call to make, and one we have also been forced into making. It will directly affect our staff, our music community and our potential to continue as a small business in the future.... Due to the nature of sideway it’s become clear that we can no longer guarantee a safe space for our staff and customers. This is despite an extensive look into greater hygiene measures we can implement and the lower risk of transmission currently in the ACT compared to the rest of the country. Restrictions on gatherings of over 100 people now directly restricts our ability to operate, we are also unable to implement no touching and the recommended distances between patrons. Amidst the seemingly endless moods of fear and uncertainty that have prevailed this year we understand the urge to defy and ignore the calls for social distancing and isolation. The coming weeks, however, are particularly important. As testing remains low and growth remains exponential, we believe the young and mobile pose a sizeable risk to those vulnerable in our community. Given that we know social distancing is currently the best way to contain the spread, we can no long remain open. Our fellow travellers and workers in the hospitality, music, and arts sectors are struggling right now. We encourage everybody to support them if you can buy gift vouchers and get delivery from your favourite restaurants, buy music and merch from your favourite artists, share work opportunities and resources for the casually employed. While we are closed we will be working to build support networks to ensure our music community is still a part of our lives, even whilst it’s from a distance. We look forward to reopening as soon as its safe and appropriate, for now look out for one another and give your time and resources to those in need. Join the various Mutual Aid Groups that exist online, we will be sharing more links in the coming days as well as some news about ways you can help us. sideway

15.01.2022 Like many clubs, promoters, producers, DJs, and those in the orbit, we have been thinking of ways to stay connected and maintain some sense of normalcy and community in this strange time. In a grand meeting of the m i n d s we’ve decided to start a Virtual Club and call it Club Virtual, a groundbreaking play on words and a riveting entry into the new musical landscape. The cool thing is, you can enter this club from just about anywhere, we’ll be streaming live n online from 6pm-12am Friday’s and Saturday’s from a variety of locations. You can also choose to pay entry, and donations will go towards our fixed costs while sideway is closed. We are currently deep in testing and set to launch tomorrow night at 6pm. Stay tuned!

12.01.2022 Comrades, friends, and followers! As of next Friday the 5th of June sideway is officially back open for business. It’s an exciting step out of the stasis of the past few months, and we would firstly like to send some love and gratitude to everyone who has supported us during shutdown. The messages, donations, and efforts to stay connected have all reaffirmed the beautiful community and support we have. Given we are still far from the heady days of dance floors and high...ly populated spaces we will be offering an intimate service that we hope fulfills that urge or two you’ve occasionally had for social interaction. To start we’ll be taking bookings for two sittings over two days - Friday and Saturday from 6pm-8:30pm and 8:30pm-late. For $50pp you’ll have your own personal DJ, a Solita pizza per pair, bar snacks, and the rest to spend on a hot new selection of wines, beers, and cocktails. Because we are restricted to 20 people per sitting, we will be selling this entry as a ticket to be paid in full upfront - we hope you understand that we can’t afford no-shows at this point in time! (For any fumbles or plan changes over this just get in touch and we’ll sort it out) It’s been a challenge to get to this stage but we are looking forward to focusing on the bar side of our venue and seeing some friendly faces back in the space as we continue to recoup. We’ll of course be taking strict sanitation and hygiene measures to ensure everybody is safe and comfortable. We know things are still changing fast so we will keep everybody up to date with how we are progressing and when we can continue to turn the dial up! 09.01.2022 Double screening this afternoon of the 1973 French Sci-Fi classic Fantastic Planet (La Planète Sauvage) with a live soundtrack by local experi-dub outfit the Shadow Ministers. Will be a hard act following the mood and psychedelia of the original score but I think these guys might just pull it off! Both sittings are currently sold out but looking at hosting more of these events in the future

08.01.2022 Great news! As of this week we are returning to trading Thursday to Sunday. The bar will be open again from 5pm Thursday and 4pm Sunday every week. Regular event programming is back on these nights, starting this Thursday with a new Comedy open mic that is running every fortnight. Disc jockeys and local bands are also back every week for the Sunday session. Preeety pretty good!

04.01.2022 It’s been a while since we’ve been able to post one of these! Our last gig guide was put together in March before youknowwhat. We had a stacked few months of shows lined up with artists coming through from just about everywhere. Happy to put one together again, we’re still a while away from late club nights and standing gigs but there’s still lots to be excited about and grateful for here. We’ll be hosting shows every week on Thursdays and Sundays with DJs playing in bar mode Friday and Saturday nights. Make sure to get down and support all of the amazing local artists we’re hosting
