08.01.2022 Farewell to Anita DAndrea Anita sadly passed away 11th August, 2020 at 79 years of age. The Società Isole Eolie (SIE) would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the DAndrea family at this sad time, in particular her children Antonietta, Anthony and Daniel. We have put together a collage of photos of Anita from our archives, attached to this post. ... Anita was a loyal member and sponsor of the SIE for decades her familys regular donations of watermelons to the annual Seaford Picnic is appreciated and will not be forgotten. Her association with the fruit business goes back to the 1940s, growing up in her parents' fruit shop at 485 Chapel Street, South Yarra. Helping her father in the shop, her lifetime involvement in the fruit & vegies trade is the longest of anyone in the Aeolian Community. She worked in that shop until 2011, when they moved to larger warehouse premises at 45 Garden Street, South Yarra. Anita's uncle (on her mother's side) was Tony Bongiorno, a 1925 founding member of the Societa' Isole Eolie. The Funeral Service for Anita DAndrea will be Webcast live on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 3pm. To access the Webcast please visit: www.tobinbrothers.com.au and search for Anita DAndrea in the Funeral Notices / Webcast search bar. Rest in Peace, Anita.

06.01.2022 Farewell to Angela Boccabella Angela sadly passed away this morning, 1st September 2020 at 97 years of age, after a recent battle with cancer. The Società Isole Eolie (SIE) is saddened by the loss of its oldest member and oldest serving Committee Member. We would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to Margaret, Peter, James and the whole family. Angela Boccabella (Née Broccio) was born 30 October 1922 in Lipari and came to Australia by ship at the age of 10.... She was accompanied by her mother and younger sister. Upon arrival, they joined father Santo who had previously come to Australia to prepare the way for the rest of the family. Her two brothers were subsequently born here. Like most Aeolians, while attending school, she helped out in their family fruit shop in Elwood. During World War 2, her father was detained and having been born oversees to Aliens, Angela and her sister had to report to the Police Station every week. As the eldest child and barely 20 years old, she took a leading role in keeping things going until the War ended in 1945 and the family was reunited. In 1946, she met Bernardino and they married soon after, thereby raising 3 children- Peter, James and Margaret. Typical of many other Italians, they accommodated fellow immigrants during the critical housing shortage of the late 1940s and 1950s, helping them until they settled down and found their own premises. Rest in Peace, Angela. Sam Portelli, President
