21.01.2022 What we do incorporates boxing and Wing Chun. This is a great example of a small guy using sharp skills, defensive movement, and speed to take out a bigger guy with longer reach. Pay attention to how he utilizes the jab to set up everything.
21.01.2022 Combat House Spring Grading - Saturday 17/10/20 Some Inspiration For Those Preparing to Grade. Graduating and the rewards therein are a perennial part of our life. We graduate from crawling to walking as an infant, from training wheels to solo rider as a child, we pass our HSC in our teens and graduate to adulthood at 21. We receive promotions and demotions in our chosen jobs and careers and often spend time comparing ourselves to others - another form of grading ourselves ...- I believe modelling is a powerful tool, but ultimately you must find your own voice and your own path. We begin our martial journey for a myriad of reasons: fitness, self-defense, self-confidence, it's seldom to obtain a black belt, that usually comes after being immersed in the mat culture for awhile and even then we take it one belt at a time. Gradings give us realistic yet challenging goals and goals are good. No goal, no destination can kill motivation -the rudderless ship. Gradings give us a focus something to zero in on and focus is good. There is truth in the statement "it's not the destination it’s the journey" but a map really helps. If the idea of a grading gives you pause for thought and the challenge is a little daunting, then it is already becoming a parallel to the challenges we face in life and challenges are good. Remember that success leaves clues, just look at the advanced belts on your mat, they have all faced the challenges you now face. The evidence of success is right in front of you. So map out your course, tap into the wisdom on your mat and keep your eye on the prize. Gradings are awesome. Sifu Rick Spain

08.01.2022 As another year around the sun approaches in my life I've decided to begin a practice I came across recently of giving on one's date of birth rather then receiving. So would anyone like some free training with an experienced professional instructor? #4 Is my personal favorite and it has the best of all of the other 3 things mentioned. The first person that can correctly guess what my favorite is and what some of those elements are as it pertains to numbers 1, 2 & 3 will get 2 free 1hr private training sessions live at the Combat House or via Zoom on that particular favorite of mine valued at over $100! These sessions can be for personal use, a relative, or friend 12 years or older but only what I consider to be the best answer in the comments below will win.
06.01.2022 NEXT SESSION STARTS: Monday 02/11/2020
06.01.2022 Spring Grading 2020 at Combat House. This was our very first grading in the new location due to the fires and lock-down. It took awhile bet we got it done and I couldn't be more proud of everyone and the effort they have put in. We had 20 Young Masters advance. 4 Wing Chun and 5 BJJ students move up. Thanks go to Leicia and Jake for the pics.
03.01.2022 Mpact Boot Camp this morning at my new favorite work out spot Dolphin Cove. While everyone else is sleeping this crew was up running stairs, doing power push ups, lunges, etc. to a military 4 count. Well done troops!
02.01.2022 Martial arts practice can be viewed as a hobby or as a way to get fit however in reality it is more of a lifestyle practice of developing mindful awareness and a way personal self improvement.
01.01.2022 I believe that while everyone has their own personal preference be it boxing, kicking, or grappling which is absolutely great. However, it is the person that is very well rounded across the board and is able to adapt quickly as needed that has the most chance of success. Boy Scout Motto - "Chance favors the prepared mind."
