The basics are that you need your security licence and a clean drivers licence. Beyond that you need to be a good communicator, be able to make effective decisions...sometimes under real pressure. You have to be able to work alone and you have to be able to deal with the fear. We work alone through the night until 0600, so we see it all as we move from si...te to site checking that our customers properties and assets are secure, regularly discouraging possible criminal activity and frequently dealing with alarm responses, duress call outs, break and enter situations and sometimes seriously violent incidents. 20.01.2022 Always try to be aware of your surroundings and dont open car doors to strangers, even when out on patrol we always keep our doors locked when in the patrol car. If someone approaches the car it is immediately started up for movement if required. The car window is only very slightly opened to allow hearing should the person approaching wish to engage. Should the situation appear even slightly unusual we will move off to safe distance immediately. If the behavior is really concerning we will call 000 and advise Vicpol. Same applies when you enter or exit your vehicle - stop looking at your smart phones! - Be aware of where you are and who is around you before you exit and before reentering the vehicle. Be Aware and Be Safe!
