22.01.2022 While I was studying Auslan, and a few years after I was working as a teacher's aide for Deaf kids. One school I worked at had a few kids with implants. None could sign and they could barely even hear. Every morning the teacher would do a hearing test, with majority of the students not responding. Their parents all just assumed that because their child had the implant, that they were "fixed" and hearing. This is and has never been the case, and those with implants require a lot of assistance to learn how to "hear" and talk. Signing is definitely still needed

17.01.2022 You might not realise this, but masks have made it especially hard for the Deaf community to read people during COVID. Expression Australia have kindly given us some basic Auslan signs we all should learn

15.01.2022 It's a good thing I've got 2 little one's, as they will get my imperfections while I try to master getting signs onto things. Tonight's experiment was putting signs onto bibs, getting ready for Christmas.

09.01.2022 2 posts in 1 day! The last week or so Katerina has been able to extend her pointer finger, which is helping her to be able to sign a bit clearer. Every night after dinner we sign "empty". Tonight she was able to sign with her finger rather than a closed fist.... Picture of miss smarty pants in comments
