How I wish life was greener, Less stressful and much cleaner, More fun and much less meaner, Oh, how I wish for greener ... Pastures now. So resigning was the answer? Cut and run adrift, An overdue down shift, The fog was gone, Lifted, time to move on, I felt so free, Like I could finally be me, But there's a choice To make, I didn't yet see ... How I wish life was greener, No lies or misdemeanours, No facades like all the preeners, Oh, how I wish for greener ... Pastures now. Yeah, things hadn't quite gone to plan ... It was a 'perhaps', Not a 'sure thing', or even intended, How could I get trapped, Fall head over heels, be apprehended? Yeah, love at first sight - It might be a thing. Farmer wants a wife, But she wants that ring. You could visit Love Island, Or try it alone, When Beauty meets Geek, It goes wrong once you're home. When that flash hits you, It's a like a lightning bolt strike, In an instant, you're gone, And it's love, not just like. In an instant In an instant Happens in a flash ... 18.04.2022 "FRIEND AND FOE" Lapland, the largest print in my exhibition COOL WHITE on at Life's Too Short Bar is turning into a bit of an attraction ... Little did I know what would happen when I flipped the picture to make a square image! But, it seems, people are loving getting their #angelwings on and who am I to disagree? As a kid, when I saw these sorts of snow-laden trees in calendars they seemed surreal. We didn't have much snow, let alone anything like that in Australia. But ...I dreamed I might, one day, see the real thing ... That day came in March 2018 when I finally got to travel to far north Finland, close to the Russian border. The snowy landscapes I'd only ever seen pictures of were now all around me, enveloping me. In the short daylight hours, and the ethereal golden and pink twilight that inevitably followed, it was a true winter wonderland. The landscape was periodically interrupted by reindeer roaming free. It was like I'd stepped into The Chronicles of Narnia, far beyond the constraints of the wardrobe ... But in the night, when the temperature dropped well below -30c and the slush on the ground turned to slippery black ice, wearing three layers of thermals to keep warm and crampons to stay upright, the reality of life in such extremes began to dawn on me. I hope one day to return to Lapland, to explore more the wonders it contains. 03.04.2022 "FROZEN IN TIME" from my exhibition COOL WHITE at Life's Too Short Bar ... kind of appropriate as we're all feeling a bit that way in lockdown 6.0 in Melbourne right now. When I took this pic of Goðafoss, in Iceland a couple of years back it was one of the coldest days I'd ever experienced on this planet. I ventured, rugged up, from the relative protection of our hire car, to trudge through knee deep snow and 'get the shot'. Living in Australia we're so inexperienced when it... comes to that kind of snow that, standing on the very edge of the falls, I admit I was a little nervous whether the ice pack might give way ... It didn't, and the semi-frozen falls were majestic (maybe moreso than in warmer months when there's more water volume) as its spears of ice dangled rather threateningly towards the water's surface below. I took off my gloves as is necessary with touch screens ... my hands were instantly frozen, my face by then was wind burnt, red and numb. But I was mesmerised ... awestruck by the beauty of the falls in the ethereal long twilight that comes with winter in the far northern hemisphere. Hopefully you're mesmerised too. 28.03.2022 "LIGHTLY DUSTED" from my exhibition COOL WHITE at Life's Too Short Bar featuring 15 photos from my travels to the Faroe Islands, Lapland, Antarctica, Chile and Iceland (yeah it's a winter theme, did ya guess?) The Seal Woman sculpture in The Faroe Islands on the Island of Kalsoy sits on a rocky outcrop at the base of a cliff. Thirteen metre waves from the North Atlantic Ocean crash over her as the ice-dusted sheer cliffs of Kunoy form the backdrop to her legend ... that of Kó...pakonan. On that grey, cold and very windy winter's day, I wondered if the climb down the hundred or so steep steps to get to her would be with the effort. But as we reached the bottom, and I began to look for the best vantage point, the sun came out ... just for a moment ... and I captured this shot Do come take a closer look at the exhibition and share your travel stories with us ... we'd love to hear them! You thought life was easy But it’s just fucked up. So you’re left with one option boy It’s time to lawyer up. It was just petty crime, Never did it big time. It coloured your life, Hounded you through the night. Tried to shake it off And work for the boss. But wrongfully fired Your colleagues conspired, Not there to promote, You were the scapegoat. Discrimination is yours, Got you down on all fours. No way to fight back, Just given the sack. Now your marriage is gone You’re still playing along, Ignoring the truth, But you need to choose.
