19.01.2022 On the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Prakash Purab (Birth Anniversary), SICV wishes everyone joy, peace and happiness Guru Nanak Dev Ji is regarded by Sikhs and many others as a Messenger of God, an Enlightened Teacher, a Champion of human dignity, peace and a brilliant spiritual Light for all humanity. Guru Nanak Dev Ji travelled far and wide, emphasizing the oneness of all humanity and bridging perceived interfaith and other gaps among society. ... He gave us the message of Ik-Onkar, which is the very first word in the Sikh scripture (Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji), which means there is only One, universal Creator who has created all of us. The voice of Guru Nanak was a voice of compassion and a plea for peace and unity during a time of widespread communal hatred. Wherever he travelled, he spoke out against what appeared to him as empty or harmful religious rituals such as idol worship, the caste system, and the sacrifice of widows. To promote interfaith and human connection the verses below from Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the Sikh Scripture (Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Pg 1299) sits well in promoting harmony amongst all faiths. **No one is my enemy No one is a stranger With all I am at peace God is within us and that renders us incapable of hate and prejudice**
