23.01.2022 LOOK AWAY DAD'S! We've been preparing some special activity packs for our friends self-isolating at home. Strong relationships and connections are paramount at Silkwood Family Day Care. James Comer (1995) puts it well: "No significant learning occurs without a significant relationship."

22.01.2022 A powerful and oft misunderstood quote from the ‘first playworker’ John Bertelsen.

20.01.2022 The great thing about dreams is that they do come true and if you're lucky enough like me, sometimes they even exceed your wildest expectations! 7 years doing what I love Here's to many more

20.01.2022 Authors Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson will be presenting a Zoom story time featuring their new book, Family, this Saturday 5 September at 10:30am, hosted by Kyneton’s Squishy Minnie Bookstore. Family is a thoughtful contemplation for all to learn the different ways that family makes us whole.

19.01.2022 We are loving the picture book DEAR ZOO by Rod Campbell. We have added the auslan sign for each animal to broaden our knowledge of communication, literacy and to foster inclusion. To promote engagement we have made coloured 'packages' for the children to open to bring DEAR ZOO to life. This simple, fun activity combining language and movement (signing) has been well recieved by children across all age groups and is a winner in my book as it is through repetition that I am lea...rning the auslan sign for elephant, giraffe, lion, camel, frog, monkey, snake and dog alongside the children. Our learning program at Silkwood FDC is rich, diverse, inclusive & exciting and we are well on our way to expanding our repertoire of auslan signs!

17.01.2022 I've just signed up for this! Will you join me?

08.01.2022 We acknowledge, support and celebrate The Indigenous Literacy Foundation's Indigenous Literacy Day by revisiting the books in our library that celebrate communi...ty and connection. 08.01.2022 As face masks are compulsory for Melbourne and Mitchell LGAs (adults plus children over 12 years of age unless holding a medical exemption) (not compulsory for children under 12 but may be used, never used for children under 2) and from midnight Sunday face coverings will be mandatory in ALL of Victoria, this story may help your children prepare. Another idea to help children make sense of their world at this time is having masks or scarves for their toys to wear and a collection of bits to make a doctors kit.

08.01.2022 http:// BOOK ALERT // 'Be your own man' is a book that encourages young boys to broaden their ideas about what it means to be a boy, supporting them to feel free and proud to be who they truely are. A wonderful addition to our Silkwood bookshelf.

06.01.2022 This is a video to help our Silkwood Family Day Care children feel safe, secure and comfortable at day care with current chages due to covid. EDIT: It has come to my attention that I put my mask on upside down I hope you had a giggle- we could all do with a laugh during this crazy time of covid!

06.01.2022 Children thrive on rituals held in celebrations and look to these with anticipation and joy. I'm always looking to add intention and meaning to these important times and I'm so excited to listen and learn from Lou Harvey-Zahra from the comfort of my own home! Definitely one not to miss!

05.01.2022 To all the brilliant DAD'S out there, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

04.01.2022 This exquisite theatrical tale for families is a timely reminder of how stories connect us to the world. Available to watch until 5 September!

03.01.2022 One more sleep until our little friends return to Silkwood FDC for 2021. I have reflected on each child's interests and developmental needs and set up some 'invitations to play' based on these. Looking forward to our many adventures together!

01.01.2022 Doing our bit, Silkwood FDC is closed this week due to a few sniffles and coughs in our household that needed attending to! I was so impressed at how brave my two were when getting tested! Best of all was when our doctor eased Mr R into his test by getting him to compare the swab with his pointer finger. "I bet your finger goes up your nose, so getting this thin swab up there will be no trouble at all!" Whilst we're recouperating at home (in isolation of course!), I'm catching up on some professional development with my boy snuggled up beside me. I can highly recommend Niki Buchans 'Fires in Early Childood Settings' webinar. Very informative with practical straight forward advice.

01.01.2022 Silkwood Family Day Care offers a warm, supportive learning environment for children; where play and exploration is encouraged and children are active agents in their own learning. The environment is modified and adapted by the child as they see fit. Furniture moved and resources used in ways that a child's heart, hands and mind desires....

01.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
