09.05.2022 Travel + Leisure writer Alison Fox visits Silky Oaks Lodge and discovers a whole new world, which as she says is a wonderfully peaceful refuge serving as home base for Australia's Tropical North. She says: 'That morning, I dove into the underwater world around the Great Barrier Reef before heading just a few minutes inland to check into the Silky Oaks Lodge, which made Travel + Leisure's editor-curated It List this year. Here, I stepped into another world completely, walking along a wooden path to the open-air lobby, surrounded by tropical greenery. 30.04.2022 Custom furnishings in natural hues, warm timber and a nod to the classic Queenslander vernacular elevate the style stakes, but not so much you can’t feel at home and put your feet up. Explore Tropical North Queensland Luxury Lodges of Australia
27.04.2022 With travel back on the agenda, this year’s Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List is steamier than ever, with the world’s best hotels, restaurants, culture and tours scouted by editors from the magazine’s seven editions from around the globe. Silky Oaks Lodge is among the editors’ picks for best new hotel openings: ‘Exploring Australia can feel like a daunting task. But the deeply comfortable Silky Oaks Lodge puts the untamed rainforest, river, and reef all within easy reach, making you feel like part of the delicate ecosystem.’ Hot list worthy, indeed. 22.01.2022 Masters of cryptic camouflage, Jalbil, as they’ve been known over the past two-thousand or more generations (but much more recently, Boyd’s Forest Dragon) distinguishes itself amongst its reptilian fraternity by relinquishing the energy that is otherwise available from direct sunlight. Through a method of thermoregulation, they conform their heat signature to the ambient temperature of surrounding vegetation, thus evading predators and avoiding detection of its favourite food source, massive, flightless Strong Stick Insects. That’s one super-cool Daintree dinosaur! @fnq_naturetours
22.01.2022 Cape Tribulation is a place at the end of the sealed roads of civilisation; there’s no wifi or mobile reception and time seems to come to a languid stop. Renowned for its stunning, rainforest fringed beaches, there’s much more than meets the eye in this off-grid outpost. Cape Trib (as the locals call it) offers a literal jungle mix of things to do from mud-crabbing in the mangroves, horse-riding on the beach, cruising out to the reef, discovering dinosaur-era plants and tasting locally-grown tropical fruit ice-cream, to name but a few... 19.01.2022 The uncertainty caused by a series of extended state border restrictions has had an enormous and detrimental impact on the tourism industry in the era of the Coronavirus pandemic. Now’s the time to come together and lobby the State Premiers and Chief Ministers to reopen borders (except Victoria for now) with protocols in place for safe travel between states. 16.01.2022 Did you know that Praying Mantises have 3D vision, can rotate their heads 180 degrees without moving their body, and can camouflage themselves from season to season? They are also great learners and formidable hunters. Larger subspecies of Mantis have even been observed catching small fish, in the dark. There is no shortage of remarkable creatures in the Daintree!

10.01.2022 Over millions of years, the Mossman River has carved a steep-sided valley from the tablelands down to the coastal lowlands. Through this valley, crystal-clear water cascades among large granite boulders which have been washed down from the hills during times of heavy flood. It’s a constant, timeless process.

The Australian episode of Chef’s Table: BBQ follows Lennox Hastie of renowned Sydney restaurant Firedoor on the hunt for Australia’s most delicious ingredients, and the ways in which fire can elevate them to something truly unforgettable. Australia.com has a rich history of cooking over fire - a history that began with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ...people tens of thousands of years ago. During Chef’s Table: BBQ, Hastie taps into this ancient knowledge with Kuku Yalanji man Juan Walker, owner and guide of Walkabout Cultural Adventures in Explore Tropical North Queensland's Daintree Rainforest. With Walker in the lead, Hastie learns to catch mud crabs from the damp sand on the edge of the rainforest. Within minutes, bright orange flames are licking at the freshly caught crabs. See more

06.01.2022 A survivor of eras of climatic change, the Daintree Rainforest is one of the most naturally beautiful and diverse places on the planet. Its 1200 square kilometres are habitat to the largest range of flora and fauna found anywhere and it’s believed to be the oldest forest in the world.
05.01.2022 Due to the unexpected challenges of 2020, unfortunately the relaunch of Silky Oaks Lodge has been delayed. Silky Oaks Lodge will now reopen on October 1, 2021 allowing time for a stylish redesign of the celebrated Daintree Rainforest property, with works recommencing in earnest in early 2021. In the meantime, sharing an exciting preview of the new-look lodge and the cool contemporary vibe set to take Explore Tropical North Queensland by storm in the near future.

02.01.2022 Not one for the faint hearted, the Manjal Jimalji trail is located in the World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park. The challenging 10km-return walk is devilishly steep at times and offers experienced hikers the opportunity to discover the unique vegetation of the upland and lowland rainforest, climbing up to a coral fern-dotted clearing some 1,200m up. Strenuous to the end, walkers must scramble over boulders to reach the lookout - a large granite boulder overhanging the rainforest below. Locally known as Devils Thumb, the views and abundant birdlife encountered along the way make all the hard work worthwhile! For safety reasons, the trail is best attempted during the dry season only.
