24.01.2022 Just got these amazing English Jobling Knife Rests, made from opalescent glass and in their original fitted box. This hare and squirrel are a delightful pair and scarce survivor. They date between 1932 and 1935 and are hand engraved with Jobling's mark and Patent applied for underneath. English Opalescent glass is far rarer than French and I've not seen a pair of knife rests ever. Don't miss them, one tiny flake from the end of one rest, otherwise very good original condition. 23.01.2022 Very fine quality Japanese Cigarette Case with gold damascene work, signed "Yoshihiko Saku". This piece dates to the late Meiji or early Taisho period (c. 1910-20) and is a fabulous example of Japanese Workmanship.
22.01.2022 A fine Meiji Period Japanese Ivory Okimono of Ashinaga and Tenaga. In Japanese folklore, Ashinaga and Tenaga team up as fishermen, Tenaga sitting on Ashinaga's shoulders while they wade out in the deep waters. Tenaga then reaches down and pulls fish from the sea. This Okimono depicts Tenaga reaching down and holding onto a crab's pincer, while Ashinaga's face is contorted in pain as the crab's other pincer grabs onto his leg. Signed in a red lacquer tablet underneath and having Shibayama inlays, this is a high quality item. Price NZ$2500. Message me for further info.

09.01.2022 A very fine and rare pair of portrait miniatures, hand painted on ivory by Eduardo Moira, portrait painter to Queen Victoria. On the left, Alexandre de Bourgeois and on the right, Charles de Bourgeois. These were painted in 1885 after the originals in the family from 1610. Exceptional quality and in their original frames. 09.01.2022 Some more pics of a fabulous pair of watercolour miniatures on ivory. The artist, Eduardo Moira, was portrait painter to Queen Victoria, and there are a number of miniatures by him of both QV and her daughter Alice, held in the Royal Collection. The detail in these paintings is exceptional, they are copied from originals in the family that date from 1610 and were painted in 1885. The provenance is recorded on the back of each painting which is held in its original ebonised timber frame with gilt inner slip and glass.
