19.01.2022 OESTRONE SULPHATE, ELISA Oestrone sulphate testing is a reliable method of pregnancy diagnosis in the mare from 80 post-mating. Oestrone sulphate levels rise d...uring pregnancy and are a good indicator of a viable pregnancy and will drop immediately if foetal death occurs. Oestrone sulphate levels of a non- pregnant mare are <5 ng/ml, with pregnant mares typically >20 ng/ml and generally over 100 ng/ml. Oestrone Sulphate testing is performed on Wednesdays (cut off Tuesday 7pm) with results available by 5pm Wednesday. #vetpath #pathology

17.01.2022 What is Laser Therapy, how do we know it really works?

16.01.2022 THERAPEUTIC LASER THERAPY (TLT)IS THE ONLY LIGHT THERAPY THAT CAN PENETRATE BELOW THE SKIN. TLT uses red, infrared & blue light wavelengths combined with a power source. Light at 600 700 nm penetrates superficial tissues; light at 780- 950 nm penetrates deeper tissues. Visible Red Light with no power source, such as LED Red lamps (620 -800 nm)(often sold in mats or torches), only penetrates tissue superficially, down to 1cm (i.e. only affecting skin).... These facts are dictated by the Laws of Physics. TLT IS THE ONLY LIGHT THERAPY THAT CAN PENETRATE BELOW THE SKIN TLT combines light of different wavelengths (600-950) with a pulsing POWER source, that can penetrate tissues up to 10 cm. (ie can reach well below the skin, into tendons, ligaments, muscle and bone.) By pulsing the light very, very quickly no heat is built up, so this is a very safe, effective treatment for wounds, inflammation, pain relief, reduction of swelling. We consistently see a 30-50% increase in the RATE of healing of injured tissues. https://www.silversonvet.com.au/therapeutic-laser-therapy #lasertherapy

09.01.2022 WA has very strict rules and regulations for fundraising. Lot's of well intentioned people work hard to raise funds however groups can be required to obtain Charity licenses which must be displayed. "If an association or club is collecting donations of money or goods from the public in Western Australia for a charitable purpose it must have a licence under the Charitable Collections Act 1946 (the CCA)." Your association will need a charitable collections licence if the purpo...se of the fundraising falls within the definition of charitable purpose under the CCA which includes: -the relief of the sick, infirm, poor, destitute, helpless or unemployed; -the relief of distress caused by war, and the support of members of the armed forces; -animal welfare, conservation and environmental causes; " -Bank accounts for example, should be in the licensed Charity name. 08.01.2022 Prevent Foal Dehydration! Summer can be a difficult time for foals, especially newborn foals. Constant fly irritation, heat, lack of shade and interrupted nursing opportunities due to the dam constantly moving, can all lead very quickly to a state of dangerous dehydration. Monitor your foals closely!

07.01.2022 Think twice before taking your pooch for a walk. Little paws can suffer serious burns in this heat Hamilton Hill resident Cliff Green says he temperature t...ested the bitumen outside his property after he saw two people walking their dogs. The temperature read 61.2C at 10:45am. The air temp was 37C. "Why would you walk your animals knowing its 37? The ground would be nearly double that," he said. Before walking your pooch in warm weather always check the ground isn't too hot. If you can comfortably hold the back of your hand on the ground for at least five seconds - it should be okay. Spread the word and have a safe, happy and healthy Christmas!

05.01.2022 Removing Ticks! Smother the tick with meths and allow 10 minutes for it to die. Check it’s dead by poking it to see if it’s legs wiggle. Then grasp it ON the head with secure forceps to ensure you remove the mouthparts. Grasp firmly and pull the whole tick out. Wash the meths off the skin. Sometimes you may still expect a small residual swelling in the area which should resolve in a few days. Ticks like to head for the soft genital areas so check these areas frequently.
