23.01.2022 CAN YOU HELP? As you saw in our post last week, the Silverton War Memorial Youth Camp has just undergone a major refurbishment thanks to NSW Government funding. The Youth Camp is managed by the Silverton Village Committee Inc. and we now need people who would like to be involved with the running of this magnificent building. The SVC is looking for someone to take bookings and also someone to clean the building prior to bookings moving in. This doesn't have to be the same pers...on. If you are interested in taking bookings, you need a phone and the internet and just need to be available to take calls and respond to emails. It's pretty easy and we'll show you how. If you are interested in cleaning the Youth Camp after each booking, all equipment is supplied and again, we'll show you how. The SVC is able to pay a small amount for these services, but you must have an ABN and current public liability insurance. If you are happy to help as a volunteer, you're good to go, you are covered by our insurance. The SVC is a not for profit organisation and all money generated by the hiring of the Youth Camp goes back into the maintenance and upkeep of this beautiful building. The SVC is also looking for someone interested in cleaning our public loos and emptying the village rubbish bins on a regular basis. The same payment /insurance system applies. There are so many people out there who obviously have very happy memories of the Youth Camp and Silverton, so if you live in Broken Hill or Silverton and you would like to reconnect with this beautiful little village and help out around here, please call Helen on 0437 886 352 or email [email protected] See more

08.01.2022 It's been a while since we posted anything, but that isn't because there was nothing happening with the Silverton Village Committee or in Silverton. The Committee has been waiting months to show you all this story, so we hope you are as pleased with the results as we are. Over the last 12 months or so, the Silverton War Memorial Youth Camp has been undergoing a major refurbishment. Some will have seen the disabled access ramps at the front of the building and may have noticed... some tanks and fencing at the rear. These tanks are part of a waste water treatment plant which will soon pump water to the trees within the grounds and in the future, to other areas. The building now features reverse cycle air conditioning to each room, new timber-look floor coverings, disabled access bathroom, new kitchen, power points and shelving to all rooms, upgrades to the bathrooms including painting, vanity units and new loo seats and shower heads, concrete down both sides of the building to allow wheelchair access, new washing machine, dryer and BBQ and the BBQ area at the rear has had a face lift. There is also a TV in the front sitting room and a much larger TV in the big Hall which has all the tech connectivity you could ask for. The building will again be available for hire for school groups, special interest groups, movie crews and whoever needs accommodation. The building sleeps 44. For more information, please call Helen Murray on 0437 886 352. All of this is thanks to two rounds of Stronger Country Communities Funding provided by the NSW State Government. The Department of Premier and Cabinet has been very supportive of Silverton and we look forward to more projects in the future. At some point we will have an official opening, but the current Covid 19 situation is making this difficult....we will keep you posted. See more

06.01.2022 PLEASE NOTE; camping in and around the Village of Silverton is NOT permitted. We are seeing a number of camper vans, caravans etc, pulling up in the Village and settling in for the night. Penrose Park has powered sites for $25 per night and unpowered sites for $10 per night, along with cabins and bunkhouses and also has shower and toilet facilities. Please support this local camp ground and recreation facility and respect the residents of Silverton. Whilst we all welcome an...d appreciate visitors to the Village, residents do not appreciate caravans, trailers etc. setting up camp outside their homes and businesses. For your own safety and protection of our local environment, it is also NOT permitted to camp along the creeks or on what you may think is vacant land (the Silverton Common). The creeks are prone to sudden and dangerous flooding....as they did yesterday and several times in past weeks...which could wash away you, your caravan, camper van/trailer and vehicle..... when the creeks run, no help is available....Please stay safe, enjoy your visit to the area and let us all enjoy having you here See more

04.01.2022 Hello and thank you for your interest in Penrose Park. If you have any general queries or would like to book a site or accommodation, please call 08 8088 5307. Please do not send any queries to through messenger. Thank you in advance.

02.01.2022 HOW QUICKLY THINGS CHANGE.....thank you to all those who responded to yesterday's post regarding taking bookings and cleaning of the Silverton Youth Camp, but after the lock down of Victoria yesterday and the current situation around Sydney, the Silverton Village Committee Inc. feel the responsible thing to do in this current situation, is to close the Silverton War Memorial Youth Camp until January 2021. No bookings will be taken during this time and we will reassess the situation in January.
