19.01.2022 American Oak Veneered joinery stained and polished with top quality scratch resistant two pack clear lacquer. This client had a specific requirement of wanting every panel to be the identical colour. Thanks to our senior polisher Bruce for producing a perfect polish finish by individually toning every panel.

19.01.2022 Wormy chestnut is the latest fad for disigner joinery. With a resin filling and two pack lacquer applied, timber grain anomolies that used to be cast out as rejects are now transformed into fine pieces of joinery. Shown below is an example of wormy chestnut with its unique character and distinct grain. This paticular joinery was expertly manufactured by our good freinds at Woodcraft Cabinets and polished by our team at our Knoxfield factory.

19.01.2022 A fine example of antique furniture restoration by one of our master craftsmen. Work included repairing some inlayed timber, a little fake graining and a hand rubbed French Polished finish. Although we no longer offer furniture restoration, you cant say no to the bosses wife!

17.01.2022 Occasionally we get a very special piece in our workshop that requires polishing to exquisite standards. This handmade boardroom table received over 10 coats of lacquer, a massive amount of sanding and a perfect full gloss final finish.

10.01.2022 Happy birthday to us. 36 years today since we opened for business. A lot has changed since 1983.

09.01.2022 Renovation time. With 14 spray booths operating every day there is always one that needs maintenance. Time for a sand down and a nice new coat of paint.

09.01.2022 Solid timber kitchen benchtop with a "Hard Wax Oil finish. This coating expands and contracts to mirror the movement in the timber and can be repaired and recoated on site. We are finding this finish to be superior to two pack lacquer, that has commonly been used over the last 15 -20 years.

09.01.2022 New age man made veneers have their own specific polishing requirements. Chemicals added during the veneer manufacturing process can affect adhesion of the lacquer. This joinery was coated in a barrier coat to promote adhesion and finished in two pack clear satin lacquer with an additive included to reduce the chance of scratching.

07.01.2022 Something a little different today. Blue medium density fibre board polished in a clear two pack finish. Many years of applying this finish has seen us polish black MDF, blue MDF, red MDF as well as the more common brown MDF. Avoiding an uneven finish is the key to the perfect result!

02.01.2022 A common misconception in our industry is just how much time is required in the furniture restoration process. This basic dresser alone took 9 hours as it was transformed to its new colour of Satin Black.

01.01.2022 To save hours of work staining and oiling posts and rafters on site, our builder client had the work completed at Simmonds Polishing prior to installation. This allows us to also coat the end grain areas. Factory applied finishing comes in at half the price of on-site application.
