24.01.2022 2020 ends for me flying back from a beautiful and intimate wedding in Townsville. Now I know some celebrants love to say how many weddings they’ve performed, how many years they’ve been a celebrant, but honestly I treat my career the same way I do when I’m on stage: you’re only as good as your last gig. I love what I do. I never say no to a new venture or opportunity, and I throw away hesitation at the prospect of learning something new. This is what I hope I’ve brought to the 49 couples I’ve helped this year, the funerals I was privileged enough to sing for and those I was honoured to conduct, and the dozens of incredible individuals I’ve met along the way. 2020 still found a lot to be grateful for #gratitude #love #friendship #couples #marriage #wedding #weddingdress #weddingphotography #weddinginspiration

20.01.2022 Currently sitting in Townsville Airport after Jetstar failed to notify me they’d cancelled my flight home. BUT I was able to get a flight through Qantas a little later. 13.01.2022 When you see celebrants claim they are award recipeints, be aware that the major industry awards in Australia expect you to pay them to receive recognition. Their award system expects couples to nominate and vote for you. Then it becomes a popularity contest, and not one based on excellence or actual professionalism. Think of the Logies Awards and that’s pretty much what the ABIA Awards are. 11.01.2022 I check in with all service providers before or on the day, to make sure the couple gets everything they have asked for - including a celebrant who doesn't get in the way! I love going to weddings and seeing a celebrant who is self-aware, and moves out of the crucial photo shots - the ring exchange and the kiss. I have also vowed never to wear a skin coloured head mic - audio equipment needs to be out of visual.
