19.01.2022 Some updates of the river house at legana, Tasmania . . This is a low cost home for a young family. I firmly believe and anticipate that architecture is available to the open minded & not just those with deep pockets - okay some of the expensive flashy details aren’t there but the bones of a great home which embraces all the natural values & culture of the family are still present. . The artistry is not always about money but about the wishes and needs of a client & their ope...nness to truly explore creative and inventive ideas. The best clients place faith and truth in the creative process and realise it’s not about the scribble they give you on a napkin showing what they want - rather how trusting they can be that your creative and intellectual skill can give them something far beyond what they thought was possible. . It is with pride that all of my projects are careful designed, always on budget and customised to every client & their needs- it is not a get rich quick scheme, it is about high quality thinking and delivery. 18.01.2022 A few assorted shots at day and night of the Sheppard Propellor House in hawthorn east Victoria. . This was owner builder project where the clients were looking to upgrade their 2 bedroom post war duplex into a 3 bedroom, adding a new kitchen / living space & bathroom. . The narrative of the Propellor came about due to the clients profession as an aeronautical engineer- I recalled those old Russian aircraft with the glass cockpit / nose - finding that to be a really spectac...ular experience, . Imagine looking thru to the sky as it moves and changes constantly: one day it’s grey and raining heavily and another day it’s a warm hue of pink... . both clients are ambitious & intelligent people who were able to project manage the build, engaging fantastic , highly skilled trades (the carpenter/builder Ben Riley from Project One Construction and I have since become mates and we often work on other projects together. . This was a great project and a testament to the fact that with careful planning and with truly skilled builders & trades you can create unique architecture on a budget - this was completed for $200k & easily added perhaps and additional 100-150k$ (350k$ added value to the overall resale value to the property when it was sold. You might lose a few hairs in the meantime- but its a character building exercise, without a bit of struggle how do we grow right? Right! . It always surprises me that many people don’t realise that a building designer or draftsman is not an architect- a draftsman will not provide the level of service or rigour to the overall project, nor have they completed a double degree at university and the registration qualification process (this took me 10 years in total - yes believe it or not it’s about the same time as becoming a doctor or lawyer) . Too many people try to save a few thousand dollars at the start of a project, not seeing their loss is much greater at the end - both financially & spiritually / lifestyle wise. (These people don’t make good clients). . Furthermore a good client does their research - they should want to understand the cost of building & all the consultant costs before they commence. The real estate agent doesn’t tell you how much a building costs when they sell you a piece of land do they? . When you engage an architect who listens and understands your needs, you should also be able to expect a customised outcome with the design - not just another box with expensive finishes- if you want that type of outcome, a draftsman can do that too. . This is a complex structure that soaks up the natural forces with ease, because all the necessary research has been completed in order to get the most out of the design, the structure and the site. it is a sculptural work of art & the mood of the space changes dramatically. 17.01.2022 Working on this egg shaped kitchen inside of the eagles landing beach house. . Love nothing more than an enthused client that wants to push against the ordinary: . Why do we need to have a regular kitchen anyway? Couldn’t we make it an organic shape and place it in the middle of the room?... It’s like listening to your favourite song, a kind of joy washes over ! . Very excited to see steel structure emerging onsite in the coming weeks, as we move ahead of the curve on this one. . Thanks to a great client, friend, a skillful thinker & builder Chris Tymbas. This will be the first of several very special buildings that we complete together. If you need a dynamic builder & architect team to bring your dreams to life, you could do a lot worse than talk to us See more

12.01.2022 currently working on this low-cost 4 bedroom family home in the huon valley, Tasmania. . As part of a series of affordable homes with generous space, light & material exploration, my ambition is to supply quality housing solutions not just to those with deep pockets. . This home is situated on an unusual wedge shaped site. Being compressed at the street, meant trying to find a way to express the design concept with a narrow frontage & allow the building to cascade outward into the rear yard. The plan offers a range of scales of space from the more intimiate study/flexi & kitchen zones thru to the expansive living spaces/terraces.
12.01.2022 Treehouse concept for a forest site in Tasmania. . Arguably a complex series of cellular spaces- this home is not designed for the everyday family, or is it? . Small rooms for individuals or couples accomodate needs for sleep, work, rest, reflection. This is a complex structure that is excitably medieval in its sentiment.... . Part of the ‘Temples of Nature ‘ series of houses and public pavilions that Simon linardi designed in 2019 (some of which form a collaboration with Argentinian based designer Karl Stein) See more
10.01.2022 Design for the legana house: This is a low cost home for a young family. The site falls 8m to the north. With expansive views of the Tamara river and hills beyond, the objective was to create a large living area (13x5m) that could encapsulate the view and then provide flexible living space for the couple and their young child/future kids.... The bedroom wing provides a sense of entry & the internal living spaces then open up as you arrive. Due to the deep floor plate of the building, high level glazing and raked ceilings provide great light and allow the sun to move from the morning until late afternoon - providing a change in the mood and colour of the space. Interior finishes have not Been explored in depth however the use of timber sections where the roof breaks etc create warmth & rich texture. I am proud to say that all my projects are delivered on budget.
09.01.2022 Approved Design for the Wing House, This will commence construction in Huonville, Tasmania in early 2021. . . A 4 bedroom family home which will be the first of several homes I am designing in the Huon valley and around Tasmania - these are available for sale as house and land packages - every design is customised to the clients needs & budget. ... . Quite frankly I am sick of seeing the poor quality ‘builders spec’ homes that many Australians are forced to buy and live in with their families. These homes can be drastically improved. . Architecture should be available to all Australian families - good architecture is thoughtful and get the best of space and experience - yes that’s right, architecture is not just about ‘expensive details’ as many architects suggest- this is far from the truth & a shame for the people. . My ambition is to push the quality of affordable housing (and every kind of housing for that matter) to new levels in Tasmania & wherever that I build. follow the journey as we uncover many exciting projects together over the coming years! 06.01.2022 The interior light court at the Sheppard Propellor House is a small hardscaped garden that allows like to penetrate into the original fabric of the brick home beyond. A small strip window allows the light to come thru to the lounge dining area & with a slim operable window air is free to circulate thru the space.
06.01.2022 Some updates on the interiors for the river house. . A low cost 3 bedroom family home with a huge 13x5m lounge space, raked ceilings, expansive kitchen & layered interior with slate and timber details. . Excited to be getting this one onsite in a few months.
05.01.2022 Bathrooms & kitchen design for the river house (legana, Tasmania). . Using a mixture of soft grey tones to bring out warmth in the timber features (or colours) these are standard drawings provided on all my projects. . The main bathroom features a free standing bath situated next to an awning window to enjoy views over the tamar river and gorgeous landscape. The en-suite features couples matching basins and shower heads with coat/towel hooks and blackbutt timber details or c...oloured laminate for vanity. . The kitchen design features a 3m long picture frame window also capturing beautiful views of the river and surrounding hills, not to mention the glazed north elevation with a huge 13m wide aspect of this setting. The timber structure beside kitchen houses a pantry with clear translucent cladding to allow light to penetrate into that space & equally to the wc located behind the dining area. Intelligent, low - cost design that brings engaging living thruout the home. See more
04.01.2022 A small kitchen & bathroom renovation in sandy bay tasmania. Working with a post war period home, the clients wanted a soft palette of colours & materials to compliment that moderne aesthetic. Working with my mother Miriam Linardi Interiors on this project has been an absolute delight - we are able to key into local Tasmanian product suppliers & craftspeople to help us bring the project to life. Furthermore the clients son is doing all the electrical works.... The project also includes upgrades all the glazing to make use of the beautiful aspect onto the rear garden and allow for a light filled space, on a modest budget. Initially we were exploring renovation and reworking the facade and providing break out space onto a new deck etc, however given the large open plan space and operable windows, the clients will be able to enjoy entertaining guests for dinner parties and tea parties in the new space, will enjoying the natural setting beyond.

03.01.2022 Peter Corrigans Set designs for Giuseppe Verdi’s : Falstaff Opera was shown at opernhaus Graz in Graz, Austria 2013. . It was to be the last opera set that Peter Corrigan would complete before passing. . Atelier Cartel Director Simon Linardi laboured away for corrigan for over 12 months to assist in bringing the documents and his vision for the stage designs to life. It was of fundamental importance to Linardi’s development as a young architect and student who has taken princ...iples of this theatre work into his own practise thru Art, Interiors & Architectural design thinking & teaching as the first year design studio leader at Melbourne Polytechnic (school of architecture) bachelor of built environments. . Corrigans immense impact on Melbourne architecture will never be forgotten- as a teacher, a mentor, a friend and true leader of many great creative practitioners today. . Linardi was present for the opening night of the Opera as a guest of Corrigan, it will be a cherished memory. . . Other contributions by key Melbourne educators and architects include: - Dr Michael Spooner - Architect Zlatko Basic - Architectural graduate & former atelier Cartel partner Jo-Han Seah See more
