14.01.2022 It's amazing where life and art takes me. This one requires some explanation! I was introduced to a client who has bought and restored the oldest standing house on Sydney's North shore. It was built by James Milson (of Milson's Point) for his son in 1840, and according to the records, of which there are very few, it was the first in the Kirribilli area. My brief, with some artistic licence, was to depict the house and surrounds as it was circa 1840, in a painting to hang in the 180 year old house. Willoughby Rd runs past the house, from a landing where the Ensemble Theatre now stands. Although quite different to my genre, I had to accept the challenge. Quite an education and realization of how things have changes in a very short time! 90x90cm, oil on canvas. Thank you Theresa!

11.01.2022 A most satisfying painting exercise, and result I think. The Parrot Tulip, like the Peony, is intricate and challenging, while sensual and evocative. This piece will be sitting for a couple of weeks drying before varnishing. Stay tuned. 92x137cm, oil on canvas.

09.01.2022 It doesn't take long for me to feel the urge to paint a bird again. I've been painting birds for almost 40 years now, starting with paper and watercolours, to oil on canvas. This is a green winged Macaw, native to South America, and a popular companion or pet bird. One of the largest parrots, it can reach almost a metre in length, and live to 60 years old. Sharp as a tack, smart as a sheepdog, I relish the interaction with these birds when I meet them to gather reference. Their curious eyes and dexterous feet are spellbinding. My inspiration for these recent compositions are from the great ornithological artists of the 19th century like John James Audubon and John Gould. With somewhat surreal imagery and arrangement, I try to capture the character and aesthetic qualities of these extraordinary creatures. 112x92cm, Oil on Canvas.

09.01.2022 Another satisfying day in the studio. Winter is a productive time, with a few less distractions outdoors, and music and podcasts to keep me company.
