20.01.2022 With so much uncertainty and fear in the world right at the minute I felt like I had to post something, whether it resonates with you or not that’s ok I just wanted to put some thoughts out there into the inter web. I’ve always tried to live by the control what you can control mantra, this is why this image resonated with me so much in the crazy new world we are presented with right now. After being made redundant from a job and company I have loved for 13 years a number of...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Let’s Talk Triathlon. We are lucky enough here in Queensland to be back racing and there is a bunch of races on the calendar and people are now seeing that we can make a go of this season. Here is a great article about how to make the most of your time available for training. ... 1. Do a little training every day 2. If you have cut the workout short then add some intensity 3. Make plans with a dependable training partner 4. Pack your gear the night before (my favourite) 5. Stack your workouts to make use of the time you have to train 6. Do your workouts when you can minimise distractions 7. Schedule it! All of these things will help you build consistency in your training. Racing back in your state and got your eye on some races? Shoot me a message as to how I can help get you ready! Bring on the QLD state champs next weekend #triathlon #simonbrookercoaching #triathlonqld #consistency

06.01.2022 CONSISTENCY Arguably one of the most important things in endurance sports, today I ran a 5km TT and not only did I run the fastest 5km I’ve run since 2016 I also took nearly a whole minute off my time from April. How? Consistency. Since being made redundant back in April I’ve changed the way I was training and with suddenly a lot more time on my hands I have focused on being consistent, that is getting training done each week in week out. It might be my getting my long run d...one every week, it might be just that 30mins on the bike I would have normally skipped or that walk around a block I said I’d do tomorrow. I’ve managed to squeeze this minute off my time with just one running speed session (either threshold or Vo2) per week while adding some speed work on the bike to supplement this with a lower impact. Why? Consistency. Sometimes people think too big, however I think small scale to achieve the bigger goal. What are the little things I can do to improve? Focusing on the CAN rather than CAN’T will not only change your mindset it will reap you rewards, personally, professionally and athletically. Getting you training week done however not getting any better? Start with adding something small like doing a walk every day, go for a little longer run/ride/swim one day each week. Alternatively if you are finding you aren’t getting through your training week fully then try and trim something back so that you can do it every week. With a lot of events cancelled, now is time to focus on consistency. Need help? Let’s have a chat. Send me a message now. #consistency #triathlon #running #multisport #coaching #simonbrookercoaching
