21.01.2022 Did you know that 90% of women will tear during their first vaginal delivery? The majority of these are 1st degree (small tear or graze not requiring stitches) ...or 2nd degree (requiring stitches). Unfortunately 7% of women will experience a 3rd / 4th degree tears (tears that extend into the anal sphincter) which can halt postnatal recovery and put you at risk of or give you leakage or other pelvic floor issues. LUCKILY there are things that you can do to reduce the severity of a perineal tear: 1. Perineal massage (shown to reduce the likelihood of tearing or having an episiotomy by around 9%. 2. An active 1st stage of labour. 3. Lying on your left side or upright during the pushing (2nd) stage. 4. Using a warm compress placed on the perineum as the babys head crowns 5. Relaxation, acupuncture and breathing techniques Remember as much as you can try to avoid perineal tears, especially by requesting no forceps or epidural sometimes these are a necessity for the benefit and safety of you and your baby. ** points 2, 3 and 4 have been show to reduce the chances of prolonged pushing, assisted delivery and need for epidural all of which increase the risk of 3rd and 4th degree tears ref: Cochrane review 2012, 2013, 2017 #pilates #physio #perinealtear #telehealth #4thdegreetear #perinealmassage

18.01.2022 As promised as part of the @pole.divas & @aerialdivas back to basics week 6 here is a great exercise to strengthen the shoulder stabilisers and work on brilliant pole/lyra/hoop moves like the showgirl grip . Key points include: - keep your lumbar spine neutral by engaging a slight posterior pelvic tilt - squeeze through the shoulder blades to engage the correct muscles. ... Gradually progress this exercise. If a full plank is too challenging try a half plank on your knees first! #divasbasics #polephysio #aerialphysio #polept #poledance #circusphysio #strengthening #perform #fitness #poledivas #aerialdivas #circus #lyra #hoop #silks #pole #addictedtopole #physiolife #physiogram #physiofit #melbournephysio #melbourne #trainhard #trainsmart #sportsphysio #rehab #sportsmed #sportsmedicine #exerciseismedicine

16.01.2022 Theres going to be a huge spike for most people in anxiety & stress due to COVID-19; and us health practitioners certainly arent exempt. Its so important we take care of ourselves & avoid breaking point at all costs. My door and heart is always open to anyone needing me ...at this time of need. If you feel lonely or isolated please reach out to me! Same goes here. My door is always open if you need to talk xx

14.01.2022 Question: hey Simone, are you still seeing patients right now during this COVID outbreak? Answer: whilst the answer technically is yes I am still available for face to face appointments at both clinics this is for essential contact patients only - i.e. patients with severe pain or acute trauma (fracture, sprain etc) to alleviate the pressure on hospital ED. Instead all of my usual patients are actively encouraged to utilise telehealth appointments. Eliminating face to face co...ntact is the only 100% guaranteed way to prevent the spread of COVID19. So help me to help you by staying home. As an incentive to use Telehealth, patients will be given a significant discount compared to face to face appointments. If youre unsure whether telehealth would work for you, just give me a call or shoot through a message & I can talk you through how we can help. Or watch this video >> https://bit.ly/3bAwwlu to find out how #physio #telehealth works. Posted @withregram Australian Physiotherapy Association Did you know that physiotherapists can assess, diagnose and provide appropriate exercises for your condition online? For essential in-person appointments, many physiotherapy clinics remain open. Give your local clinic a call to schedule an appointment today. #staysafe

14.01.2022 Back to Basics, Week 6: Showgirl Spin Variations. Pole Divas & Aerial Divas are going back to basics for 4 weeks to improve students basic trick skills and strength foundations. And there is no better way for students to improve than with some dedicated strengthening .... So Ive created my #divasbasics videos with a slight twist! These videos provide some great strengthening ideas for students wanting to work on their foundation strength related to that trick. These exercises are suitable for beginner through to elite level . Todays pole specific strength drill is for the shoulders: Level 1: Pencil spin Level 2: Walking Level 3: Chair Sit Level 4: L sit . Try hold each spin variation for as many laps of the pole as possible. Once you are comfortably performing a level with good technique then move up to the next level. Remember to keep your shoulders engaged by focusing on a pull down with the top arm and a push away with the bottom hand! . Ill post a great follow-on shoulder strengthening exercise in a few days time that will help with the showgirl grip along with many others for pole, lyra & hoop.
