25.01.2022 We did a lot of science activities this school holidays. This activity was all about concepts such as transpiration, capillary action and absorption. They watched the flowers change colour/ not change colour (the red and purple didn't work so well) and work as a group to come up with ideas as to why some changed and others didn't.
25.01.2022 It was wonderful to have Little Master J back after isolating. I missed that big smile! All week this week we are doing fire drills.
25.01.2022 Ice fishing fun. Want to know how it works? The salt sprinkled on the ice begins to melt the ice. Then it quickly freezes again, sticking to the string. This activity has been done many times here in the past as the children enjoy seeing how many ice cubes they can catch...today wasn't different
24.01.2022 Happy New Year Everyone. I hope your year is full of blessings Happy New Year Everyone. I hope your year is full of blessings
24.01.2022 Last night I attended a training session on 'Child protection & child protective behaviours' along with others from Eastern Region Family Day Care. The program was run by 'Wa Child Safety Services' The program is aimed to educate, equip and empower not only professionals but parents, young people and the children themselves. The program is adapted to all age groups and settings making it a valuable tool in keeping our children safe and creating safer communities ... I highly recommend taking a look at this website as they offer some valuable resources (some free) Please consider looking into a 'Child protective behaviours' course for yourself as there are a lot out there and Help to create safer communities for all our children. https://wachildsafetyservices.com.
23.01.2022 Master B & I decided to make our own boardgame. We've made one before and we were both keen to make our own Christmas one. Master B decided he wanted the game to go around the edge. Madter B decorated the board with baubles and I did a Christmas tree shape and we got our thinking caps on to work out what gifts would be in the game. Master B loved this game and asked to take it home so he could play it with his family so I made another one for everyone to play. This game was a...ll about taking turns, counting, using your please & thank you's and being greatful for what you get as well as being generous and thinking of others. This game was a lot bigger success than I expected with the children (expecially Master B) asking to play the 'borring game Christmas game' each day and sometimes more than once! I have packed the second one away that I made for next year's Christmas fun
23.01.2022 A few pictures from last week before the crazyness of school holidays hits
23.01.2022 We explored chemical reactions using vinegar, bicarb and our greatest chalk. We were hoping for a big bang and splat but instead we got only a pop! The children experimented to see if they needed more if each ingredient to change the outcome but discovered that it didn't really make much difference and they also discovered that once it's fizzed adding more vinegar didn't make it fizz again.
22.01.2022 Our obstacle course is ever evolving. I change it to suit the various ages, move it to stop the grass going yellow in a day or 2, the kids change it because they have a specific idea on how they want it to be.... I'm so lucky to have such a big yard!. EYLF Learning Outcome... L/O 3.2 Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing. 22.01.2022 What a beautiful morning outside this morning it was with these to little men, followed by a really yummy lunch.
22.01.2022 What's fun to do in the hot weather? Water play of course... With a little science thrown in we stay cool and learn about colours and mixing colours to form new ones, light and dark, measurement, counting squirts, sharing, hand eye coordination and we get to refine and develop our pincer grip as we learn to use the giant eye droppers. Lots of fun for all ages in this activity.... See more
21.01.2022 Well it's begun! When asking the kids what they wanted to do Master B said "I want to do painting and do a Christmas painting with those shape things you have" ..ahh the cut outs? Yes .. what shape do you want? "Umm a Christmas ball or tree..maybe a tree" So there we have it... Christmas craft has begun.. now I can feel free to put on Christmas music
21.01.2022 Some random pictures
21.01.2022 Just a couple of snaps for today. We made super cute ducks and Master R made a very colourful spider and a water spout later in the day... I whispered 'Incy Wincy spider's since I lost my voice on the weekend and only just getting it back today... Lots of listening skills used today
20.01.2022 With Master J not able to eat my usual home made Icepoles I came up with a recipe just for him. Something a little special so he could have a cool treat along with the other children. I made coconut and banana icepoles. Everyone loved them even Master O who usually has 2 licks and is done, ate all of his and was the last one at the table licking away until every bit was gone... I beleive it was winner
20.01.2022 This week we celebrated NAIDOC week with just a little craft and a few stories. Here we made rhythm sticks / rain stick shakers for a little sensory fun. These two really loved jumping about making music together.
20.01.2022 This week we began our winter themed activities. On Thursday we explored how clods get so heavy the cloud can't hold the water anymore and it rains. Using the shaving cream, coloured water and pippettes the children made good use of their pincer grip to squeeze the colour up then into the foam until it couldn't hold it any longer. They were able to watch the colours fall through the water like rain from a cloud. This looks so pretty until all the colours mix that is
20.01.2022 If you know me or follow my page you would know I'm all about recycling what I can. We have been collecting the plastic bottle kids for mobility aids and today we did a little colour sorting ready to drop off with our can's and bottles to the recycling point on the weekend. Such a great way to involve the children in recycling and looking after our precious planet... and I can sneek in colour recognition, counting and sorting (categorising) YAY US!!... L/o 2 - Children Are Connected With & Contribute To Their World 2.4 Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment
20.01.2022 Pom Pom's & Pop sticks....more than just craft items! We do a lot of fine motor & hand eye coordination here and the favourite items for the young ones have to be the pom Pom's and pop sticks. They can be used in various ways and are often found in the dump trucks and within the magnetic construction towers! Here's a little look at some pictures I took of the last month's activities using them.
20.01.2022 Salt pictures and diffusing paper. More absorption and capillary action taking place. Some colour recognition and mixing. Pincer grip, hand eye coordination and patience are needed today... Different learning is taking place for different age groups and abilities to in this simple activity.
20.01.2022 This week so far our craft has been Dinosaurs & tamborine's. Our Wow this week so far has been acheived by Miss D as she learnt how to climb the cuby steps without help!. You can see the pride in that grin.
19.01.2022 Look at what we're growing.. This growth is all in a week!! Yesterday our oyster mushrooms grew 2cm during the day This is so much fun for the kids to watch and measure to see how fast they grow. I can't wait to try them ... L/o 2.4 Children become socially responsible and show respect for the environment. L/o 4.2 Children become confidant and involved learners as they develop a range of skills and processes such as problem solving, enquiry, experimentation, hypothesising, researching and investigating.
18.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.... Lest we forget
17.01.2022 Yesterday was a great day to be out in the sunshine. With master J deciding he wanted to do a bird craft and finishing his colouring all that was left to do was to find a stick for them to sit on... So off to the park we went...
17.01.2022 Ok a few more pics. Being Christmas time we had Christmas inspired activities. Snow man knock down was a big hit as well as Reindeer toss.... And we cant forget our Crazy Santa dancing on 'Just dance' (this gets played all year because the kids think it's funny) and Christmas yoga. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of everything but here are a few.
16.01.2022 Reindeer races are so much fun

15.01.2022 Well the leadup to Christmas was busy here...so busy I didn't get to post any photo's. I have a little time on my hands so I thought I might just do that... A Christmas flash back! Here are our special gifts for our parents we made. ... This year we decorated cooler bags, made candles that were unique to us, made hot cocoa with choc dip spoons and both Gingerbread and Hungarian cookies as well as some very sweet coconut ice. I added a few gifts for the children and they were ready for Christmas morning (or earlier if everyone couldn't wait) I always try to get the children making useful gifts for their parents so I'm hoping they get a lot of use from these bags. I use the trial one Master J & B made all the time..I love it!
15.01.2022 This week we discovered that bubbles can be BIG or small, and not only can we pop bubbles with our hands and feet... but we can catch them in our hat's too Bubbles are just the best arn't they !
15.01.2022 So, I suppose your wondering what we have been up to this last week? Well here's a few snaps I took.
15.01.2022 Such a lovely morning outside today in the sunshine.
15.01.2022 Happy Australia Day everyone. Yesterday we talked about what Australia Day means and how we celebrate it. I use Australia Day to celebrate Australia's diversity and all its natural wonders. ... We began with our Aussie crowns, made lamington cakes and had a sausage sizzle lunch. It was a very simple Aussie day celebration as I will continue over the next week or so talking about different cultures beginning with current families and their connections to other countries and traditions. We will also explore what makes Australia such a special place to live. Eg Uluru, Bungle Bungles, Kangaroo's, beautiful oceans, bush and desert's. Happy Australia Day Everyone. We are one, but we are many And from all the lands on earth we come We'll share a dream and sing with one voice I am, you are, we are Australian
14.01.2022 This morning we had water play (with and without bubbles) puzzles, Zingo, shops again, a hungry crocolide chase game with lots of squeeling and giggling, doctors, chalk potions & drawing, Kings and Queens with the blocks and magnets, dressups and looking at my collection of books I got from the Whale museum in Albany while I was on holidays..Yep..I did go a little OTT, but in my defence the pictures are real animals and super cute and the stories are simple and in line with those animals actual habitats and nature's... So I couldn't resist... Except for 'Neville the sheep' which my almost 23yr old son insisted I get because he liked it We had yummy home made mini beef strudels with salad, fruit salad for Mt & mini vege queshe with vege sticks and fruit for At. Another great day
14.01.2022 Thus week Master O mastered going down the slide on his tummy!. It as so much fun he did this day after day, over and over again
13.01.2022 I thought I might share our lunch today since it's been a while since I've posted anything we have been eating lately. They all have pretty much the same lunch with slight variation's to suit each child here today. Chicken, spinach and cheese omelette with steamed veg, chopped for our smallest of the group, triangles for one big kid and fried egg on spinach with chicken and steamed veg for our no cheese eater who wanted fried egg today.
12.01.2022 While walking in the park yesterday looking for feathers Master J found a tree root. He announced " Hey this looks just like a tadpole".... Why does it look like a tadpole ..." "Because it's fat at one end like a head and skinny at the other end like a tail"... Yes it does look like a tadpole, Wow L/o 4.3 Children show they are confident & Involved learners when they transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another.
12.01.2022 We did a lot of science. We made crystal Geodes using hot water, borax, food colouring and egg shells. It didn't take long before we could see the crystals growing on the cups and the eggshell. We left them for a couple of days then took them out and put them on paper towel to dry. (There very fragile and to harden as they dry) When they were dry enough I got out our portable microscope and (my saviour of a son did the technical set up ) We had a closer look at how the crys...tals had formed and their shapes. Next we compaired the one we made to a real crystal Geode I have. We were able to look at how the colour looked different in the way it dispersed and the shapes of the crystals. Everyone made there own little boxes and too one or 2 Geode eggs home to show their families. See more
12.01.2022 It was wonderful to see the schoolies in the holidays & to see how short I'm getting Do you want to know what we've been doing? It was wonderful to see the schoolies in the holidays & to see how short I'm getting Do you want to know what we've been doing?
12.01.2022 This week we welcomed little Miss D into our group. She's settling in amazingly Helping a child settle into care is different with every child but the goals are the same. To help them feel safe, secure and and to build a sense of belonging.
11.01.2022 Following little Master J's love of all things Dinosaur we made Dinosaur eggs today. This mix consisted of sand, flour, water, salt and coffee grounds from my husband's morning coffees I've been collecting The mix was just slightly tacky and reminded me a bit of clay. The children enjoyed it's texture and wanted to make more but unfortunately we used all of it. Now to get my husband drinking more coffee.... It's a small sacrafice for the kids happiness
10.01.2022 How lucky were we today. We got to watch the black cockatoo's eating the nuts off my tree. Usually there in the tree early in the morning expecially after the rain but today it was early afternoon. This was fantastic for the kids to see as earlier in the week one of the children pointed out all the small broken off branches under the tree. I explained why but there's nothing better than seeing these amazing birds up close! We found some broken nuts and we found a whole one a...nd broke it open to see what they were eating inside the nut. They almost look as though there laughing at you. Love them in my tree. See more
10.01.2022 This morning I made edible glue since little Miss D likes to taste test absolutely everything Master R cut some paper pieces and everyone made a green apple. The children were in fits of giggles watching a fly spin on its back and just had to copy...crazy kids!! We had a yummy salmon and hidden veg lunch with a new thing in the salad... Something I liked to call 'Crunchy white'...Aka... cauliflower this got our suddenly fussy eater crunching away We moved the big tray... and stand outside and the water play benches so we now have a big messy area outside on the grass for easy clean up. I'm not looking forward to the hot summer but loving the spring weather See more
10.01.2022 We has slime time again today, but this time I added thermal pigment so it would change colour as the children played. It didn't work so well unfortunately as the colour change was very minimal. Next time I'll.choose a dark colour! We decorated our own frizbees and began making an Australia game.... This was bought about when miss R wanted to play the home made Christmas game but I had it packed away. I suggested we make another game and she came up with Australia Day. We nutted out what things were Australian and did some googling to see what things looked like (Bungle Bundles) then decided the layout and we got creating. Unfortunately everyone started to go home so we're yet to play...maybe tomorrow or Friday when Miss R is back we will get to play. See more
09.01.2022 We made Lave lamps!! The children LOVED this and wanted to keep doing it. We all wished this activity lasted longer but breaking the Alka seltzer tablets ment it lasted a littler longer. After the children explored the way the oil and water won't mix no matter how hard you shake it
09.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there. The children have been working on there special gifts for their dads over the past couple of week and have done a lovely job! The big kids Master J & B choose their card for their dad, which was a cute owl. As you can tell I choose the younger children's card's because I liked the idea Enjoy your Father's Day Dad's
08.01.2022 Little Miss D loves messy play and with Master at asking for Shaving cream last week I bought some more. There are numerous benifits to this kind of messy play. Sensory play * Helps to build nerve connections in the brain... * Encourages the development of motor skills * Supports language development * Encourages scientific thinking and problem solving Just to mention a few benifits. See more
07.01.2022 This morning was lovely outside so a little bit of painting outdoor painting was a great way to spend it. Starting using just water then onto the block paints painting the boat then paper. Master R & Miss D got busy washing it all off with the sponges. Can you see Miss D using those hand and finger muscles to squeeze out the water from her sponge?
07.01.2022 Yesterday we went on a walking adventure to collect some flowers and plants to use later in the day. Little Miss D fell asleep in the sunshine as the older children and I chatted and collected. Bringing all our treasures back we looked at all the varieties of leaves and flowers talking about what made them different. Colours, sizes and shape. Next we took some outside to do painting with... Brushes arn't the only tools good for painting ... We also had a close encounter with a little lizard in the house that we carefully captured in a jar and took outside to look at then Master J let it go in the garden. Outside we were blessed to see a few butterflies and some little native bee's. One great thing about having a native front yard is all the birds and insects It was a lovely nature day.
07.01.2022 This week we introduced our Feeling/ emotions ball. The older boys really loved playing this game. The object is to catch the ball and look under your hand and see the face and talk about when you last felt like this. They enjoyed it a lot more than I expected and even asked to keep playing together while I made Morning tea! For the younger ones we focused on recognising the facial expressions and imitating them with me saying something that makes me mad, sad, happy etc. This is a great way for children to get in touch with their feelings and recognise them and how to talk about how they feel both emotionally and physically.
07.01.2022 We dragged out the painting easles Thursday and everyone did a little painting. Master O even ventured into 2 colours and Miss D as always ended up with hands in...but she did take a lot longer to paint with the brushes which was wonderful as I could see her painting evolve using her brush. Master R did my favourite if the day because of its bright colours and he chatted away about shapes as he painted. Lovely paintings
05.01.2022 We have a new big addition to our environment now. A fabulous tough tray! We have already made good use of it for some messy ohhhh so messy play!
05.01.2022 Who would have guessed a box of toilet paper could have so many uses and be so much fun!
05.01.2022 This morning we made fluffy slime. At first the young ones wern't so sure about this weird, sticky, stretchy stuff that they couldn't get of their hands... but with a little excitement added by me, they were soon enjoying the exploration of something new.
04.01.2022 We checked out how many bottle tops we have collected to recycle into mobility aids. Master R began the sorting with Miss S finishing it along with me and a little help from Wee Master O. Great job collecting everyone
03.01.2022 This week I got out my juicer and the kids have been able to pick the fruit and watch the juicer work. Master O as you can see thought it was pretty good... adorable! Notice the mop?... Yep there had been a few sticky spills
03.01.2022 This week the new climbing equipment arrived. It took no time at all for the boys to rip those boxes apart and start using the new ladder and plank. They all got into the new additions and even the packaging came in handy for play. Can you see our flying Ninja's?
02.01.2022 Master R is learning the difference between square's and rectangles. While the younger children are developing their hand eye coordination keeping their hand steady and the skills of patience and persistence. Everyone can join in as most activities have more than one child in mind and several oppertunities to learn a new skill or the opertunity to master one
02.01.2022 We did just a little cooking and made both mini pizzas using dough and in the second week we made pizza crackers. Mmmmmm pizza.... We also had a Pizza day on the last Thursday with everyone getting the pizza they wanted for lunch ordered from Domino's...such a treat! Why just because we gad a Pajama Day and why not...it's the holidays
01.01.2022 I had to share this picture. It is so precious. Master O walked up to his brother Master J and have him a hug, Master J being taller ment Master O was leaning back quite a lot so I suggested they sit on the floor. They gave each other a huge warm hug and as they did Miss D sees the loving embrace and walks over to join in. It's wonderful to see all the love and caring in this photo. It just makes me all mooshy.
01.01.2022 Last week we did a little more on our wet wintery theme. We learnt about how clouds form, made splat pictures by blowing on blobs of water colours to make the splats and added our beautifully decorated boots. We made an 'Incy Wincy spider' picture from our drip painting and a pretty rainbow. All the while practicing our pen skills, colour recognition, building up our knowledge and having fun.
01.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone. I hope your day is filled with Love and Laughter.
01.01.2022 I celebrated 10 years in Family Day Care in March. Were you here in the early days? I celebrated 10 years in Family Day Care in March. Were you here in the early days?
