24.01.2022 Sign the petition for safer local roads: https://mountlawley.walabor.org.au/issues/safer-local-roads/

24.01.2022 Congratulations to West Morley Primary School Athletics Carnival scooter winner, Elizabeth, whose grandkids attend this great local school. These scooters put the fun in fundraiser for the school, and they encourage our kids to get outdoors and keep active. Donating these scooters to our local schools is a small part of the ways I can support our P&Cs as local MP.

24.01.2022 The McGowan Government is supporting WA's uptake in electric vehicles, and our $21 million Electric Vehicle Strategy will create more green jobs.

23.01.2022 An important update from Premier Mark McGowan including our new funding package to support at-risk young Western Australians.

23.01.2022 An important WA Government announcement happening now regarding the City Deal which offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for Mount Lawley and our Mount Lawley Senior High School. I am excited to be part of this important project for our community. See my joint media statement with WA Premier Mark McGowan and Minister Rita Saffioti here: https://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au//Joint-media-stateme

23.01.2022 Mark McGowan and our WA State Government are committed to revitalising WA manufacturing and delivering quality local jobs. As a grandson, son and brother to tradies, I know how important training and apprenticeships are to securing reliable work in skilled trades. Yesterday's announcement of over $18 million to boost WA defense manufacturing jobs will get more Western Australians trained and working.... These initiatives also create a pipeline of future, job-creating contracts to Western Australia.

23.01.2022 An important update from Premier Mark McGowan in Parliament yesterday on our controlled borders and the Government's response to Clive Palmer's High Court challenge.

22.01.2022 We are delivering on Mark McGowan's plan for METRONET. I am a big supporter of METRONET for three simple reasons: More Jobs Improved Local Traffic... Cleaner Air It's a win-win-win.

21.01.2022 One reason I love living in the Mount Lawley electorate is how easy it is to spend time along the Swan River foreshore. The Swan Canning River system has shown itself to be incredibly resilient and I love its stunning vistas and serene foreshores. The McGowan Government has committed $900,000 over the last three years in grant funding to community volunteer groups as just a part on small part our plan for protecting our environment.... Applications are currently open for a further $100,000 to be provided to community volunteer groups to conserve the natural, cultural and social amenity of the rivers, tributaries and urban drains within the Swan Canning Catchment. I encourage local conservation groups to apply for a grant, and I offer my support as local MP.

21.01.2022 Dianella residents have a lot to say about how we can continue to improve our local community. Take my community survey here and tell me what issues are most important to you and your family right now: https://mountlawley.walabor.org.au/community-survey/

21.01.2022 Thank you Patrick Gorman MP for co-hosting with me an important update from Deputy Premier Roger Cook this morning. It is an important time, as the Premier announced today we are at a turning point for safe travel to and from Victoria and New South Wales. As local MP it is not lost on me that being able to meet together in one place is a privilege, thanks to the hard work of the community and the strong leadership of Premier Mark McGowan, Minister Roger Cook, Parliamentary Secretary Alanna Clohesy MLC and our State Government.

21.01.2022 We’ve launched the Path to Safety: Western Australia’s strategy to reduce family and domestic violence 2020-2030, a long-term vision for a Western Australia where all people live free from family and domestic violence. It sets out a clear whole-of-government and community plan for reducing and responding to family and domestic violence over the next decade. This is part of a comprehensive package of reforms and initiatives delivered by the McGowan Labor Government to increase... the safety of woman and children. #16DaysInWA #16DaysOfActivism

21.01.2022 Thank you to Mount Lawley Senior High School - Official for giving Premier Mark McGowan and me a tour this morning. It was exciting to see the new STEM building is nearing completion and also to share in a performance by the school's very talented music class. The performance gave us a great understanding about just how much the school will benefit from the transfer of WAAPA's beautiful performing arts venues when ECU moves to Perth City.

21.01.2022 The WA Recovery Plan is well underway with $5.5 billion dollars to boost jobs in major projects all across our state. The WA Premier, Mark McGowan joins me at the beginning of the Jewish New Year holiday Rosh Hashanah with a few words about an important project for our local area, a new Jewish Community Centre and world class Holocaust Museum in Yokine. The centre will include space for a child care and offices and meeting facilities for sporting and cultural groups.... It will be an assett to the entire community, providing venues for groups and thriving communty events. Importantly, the Holocaust Museum will link our local schools and the public to stories and interactive experiences from a time in our collective history that should not ever be forgotten.

21.01.2022 To our loved ones in Victoria, our hearts are with you.

21.01.2022 Shout out to Graeme at the Yokine-Joondanna RSL who invited me to host a stall at Flinders Square today to provide poppies to the public ahead of Remembrance Day. The club welcomes new associate members from the community who have a few hours to spare to volunteer with their committee. They meet at 1pm on the second Monday of the month at the Yokine Bowling Club.... This year, the pandemic changed the way we honored ANZAC Day, and now that we can engage in community events in a COVID-safe way, Remembrance Day will give us a new opportunity to come together and pause, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and remember those who have fought for our freedoms and the gravity of war. If you run into Graeme and other Yokine-Joondanna RSL members at the Kings Park memorial Remembrance Day service this Wednesday morning, be sure to say hello.

20.01.2022 Western Power has advised me there is good news in sight for Yokine residents. Crews are currently upgrading overhead low voltage cables which will have the effect of reducing the risk of power-outages from storm damage in future. Unfortunately for the time being this means some households will experience short term outages spaced a week apart whilst Western Power undertakes the works. If this is the case for you, they wanted to be sure to thank you for your patience.... For the long term, it will mean that local businesses can continue to operate smoothly, and families can reliably work from home and study online with fewer interruptions. Photo attributed to Western Power.

20.01.2022 Today we unveiled a purple bench in the suburb of Bedford to raise awareness about the issue of domestic violence in our local communities. 19.01.2022 I've been noticing more cops around than usual and chances are, you have too. That's because, under the McGowan Government's $5 million Operation Heat Shield, we have funded over 55,000 hours of additional policing to combat the general increase in crime that often occurs over summer. It means more cops are now on patrol in hotspots like the CBD, and also across our suburbs and local shopping precincts. ... I am thankful the McGowan Government is funding Operation Heat Shield for a second year, continuing to keep us safe so that we can get out and enjoy our summer.

19.01.2022 I am so pleased to see the historic pub formerly known as the Flying Scotsman will be opened afresh as a new pub in late summer under new owners and an expected new name. This is a terrific outcome for the community and another sign that local businesses have confidence to invest in Beaufort Street. An iconic destination like this can only be a positive for other Beaufort Street retailers.... I heartily welcome this announcement and look forward to working with the new proprietors.

19.01.2022 This week, I am excited to have Alex from Mount Lawley Senior High School - Official do his work placement with my electorate office. So far, he has met Premier Mark McGowan, compiled speech notes for me to present in Parliament on the high schools amazing SVAPA (visual & performing arts) program, and monitored the heated debate at Parliamentary Question Time. Whether he goes into business or politics, Alex is one clever dude to watch out for.

19.01.2022 Beaufort St Serenade is happening tonight at el PÚBLICO, Hermanos en Cantina, No Menu, Side Door BBQ, and Si Paradiso. I will be in Parliament tonight, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to talk about it in the Legislative Assembly last night. It's a wonderful example of how community groups like The Beaufort Street Network contribute to vibrant, creative culture in our local communities.... The Beaufort Street Network is an inspiration for local groups starting up in Yokine and Dianella, two fantastic suburbs with great potential for more community events and projects. If you would like more info on how to get involved with any of these groups, please contact my office at 9473 0800 or at [email protected]

18.01.2022 This year I am blown away by the community's response in the darkest of moments. Countless acts of kindness as friends, family and neighbours have taken the extra time to reach out and make sure those around them are okay, offering to help when it's needed. From runs to the local shops for elderly neighbours, donations of food, baby formula and yes, loo paper, when these items were scarce to my office's community food bank drop-off point, to donating hand-made comfort quilts... to strangers in lockdown in Victoria. If 2020 is the year of pandemic and crisis, it is also the year of generosity and solidarity. For many the anxiety and stress of this year is still ongoing, particularly for those who are looking for work or have loved ones over east. Today on R U OK Day, let's all continue to check in with people we haven't heard from in a while, show we care, and offer our encouragement and support. If you need help or someone to talk to, there are a number of support services available including: LifeLine - 13 11 14, Kids Helpline - 1800 551 800 and BeyondBlue - 1300 224 636

17.01.2022 Yokine and Dianella residents, are you interested in joining the first residents' and community group driving positive projects and activities in your local suburb? Please contact my office on 9473 0800 to register your interest, find out more and RSVP to your local group's first meeting, held on 10th October.

17.01.2022 Mount Lawley Senior High School students got a kick out of showing the Premier the ECU WAAPA facilities the school will inherit when the university moves to the CBD in 2025. These world-class performing arts buildings are a key part of the transfer of the campus to the community. If you would like to find out more about this plan, get in touch with your name and contact details by emailing [email protected]... https://fb.watch/1zvD0zP9bn/

16.01.2022 Kyzer the Therapy Dog and WA Premier Mark McGowan are both steady, calm, and an inspiration to 'keep on keepin' on'. It must be why these two are inseparable every time the Premier visits Mount Lawley Senior High School - Official Kyzer, keep up the great work providing comfort to MLSHS students during their exams this week, and the Premier and I will keep up our end of the bargain in Parliament, keeping us safe and strong.

16.01.2022 Leshanah tovah tikatev vetichatem and Leshanah tovah tikatevee vetichatemee. I wish all in the Perth Jewish community a Happy Rosh Hashanah as you gather to celebrate Jewish New Year and the birth of the universe!

15.01.2022 We want to give the infrastructure users of tomorrow a say in Western Australia's plans for the future. Young voices are needed to help shape the future of Western Australia. Infrastructure WA is inviting Year 11 and 12 students from across the state to participate in an interactive, online workshop on 17th September.... Over the course of two hours, up to 50 students be encouraged to share thoughts on the types of projects and programs that could be prioritised to help ensure that Western Australia remains a great place to live, work and visit. They will also learn more about the role of Infrastructure WA and what the State Infrastructure Strategy is. Please note that registration for this online workshop must be completed by a parent or guardian for any person aged under 18. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/state-infrastructure-strate Photo attributed to Infrastructure WA.

15.01.2022 As your local Member of Parliament, I am here to help. If you can make a coffee with me on Saturday, please RSVP to my office at [email protected] or call 9473 0800.

14.01.2022 The City Deal which includes moving ECU and WAAPA just down the road to a new CBD location is also a great opportunity for the Mount Lawley community. As part of the deal, the current ECU site will revert to full WA Government control and ownership and the State Government will now embark on a masterplan for the site. Mount Lawley Senior High School is set to expand into the current Edith Cowan University campus in Mount Lawley as part of a plan to transition the school int...o specialist performing and visual arts facilities. This will include the school incorporating the world-class WA Academy of Performing Arts facilities. As well as students continuing to enjoy access to the ECU Sport and Fitness gym.

12.01.2022 It has been a difficult few months for Victorians and their families in WA. To the many residents in Dianella, Yokine, Coolbinia, Menora, Morley and Mount Lawley who have family in Victoria - thank you for your patience. Like you, I am looking forward to being able to see loved ones again once it is safe to do so.

12.01.2022 Out with my team door knocking in Yokine to chat about the McGowan Government's $600 WA Household Electricity Credit!

12.01.2022 Households across the electorate will be receiving the McGowan Government's $600 electricity credit off your electricity bill this month. I encourage you, if your family is able this year, to spend that money locally at one of our small businesses, whether it be on Christmas presents, or regular items you would otherwise buy at larger chain stores.

12.01.2022 Calling all local musicians, singers, musical performers, now is your chance to apply to perform at WAMFest in March. Applications close 16 December, and given the number of talented musos I've run across the past few years, I hope to see our local community well-represented in this line up.

12.01.2022 I have lived with my wife and two boys in Mount Lawley for many years. My two sons were born in the local hospital and go to our local public school. I love taking them to footy at Hamer Park and the Yokine Playspace.

12.01.2022 Today is WA Small Business Day the perfect time for all of us to show some love to our hard working small business owners! Shout out to all of the small businesses in Mount Lawley, Yokine, Dianella, Morley, Coolbinia and Menora. Despite the challenges of 2020, local small businesses continue to make significant contributions to our communities and the Western Australian economy. ... This includes: Contributing $50.1 billion to our economy 97% of all businesses in WA are classified as 'small' If you know a small business that needs support, please check in with the Small Business Development Corporation WA. I hope all of our local business owners get a chance to take a moment to celebrate Small Business Day and your contribution to the state - we appreciate all you do. #smallbizwa #mysmallpledge

10.01.2022 A reminder to stay safe and Go Local First this summer. One great idea to support local business is by hosting a Local Legends' Lunch next weekend, Friday 4 - Sunday 6 December. 98 per cent of all businesses in Australia are small businesses, and they employ around 6 million Australians. ... Support from local residents is what keeps our small businesses going. 10.01.2022 As Member for Mount Lawley, I am proud to chair the working group that will be formed to ensure the Mount Lawley Senior High School - Official and surrounding community receive maximum benefit from the transfer of the existing Edith Cowan University campus in Mount Lawley. I will be liaising with WA Government ministers over the coming weeks to finalise the terms of reference and key time frame for community consultation around this important project.

10.01.2022 In Western Australia, compared to the rest of the world, there is no doubt that we are the lucky ones. It hasnt come without its costs, and I thank each and every one of my constituents for their patience and diligence in helping to stop the spread of coronavirus in WA. The difficulties we have experienced this year wont last forever.... Lets keep up the good work.

10.01.2022 The WA Government's WA COVID-19 Weekend Update for 29 November 2020.

10.01.2022 Story Time is starting up again at Beaufort Street Books, with a session tomorrow morning, Thursday 17th September at 9.30 am. Its a great local initiative to support literacy in our community.

09.01.2022 Umbrella Aged Care is seeking volunteers who fluently speak other languages to take part in activities supporting local seniors with multicultural backgrounds. If you can help, please contact Vinny Fernandez on 9275 4411 or email [email protected]

09.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to my Dad, Brian, and to all of the dads in our community, particularly to those who cant be with their families in person for Fathers Day this year. On a lighter note, my dad has passed down to me so much more than just his sensible taste in sweaters. I can only hope to instill in my own kids the same sense of fairness and hard work that my dad showed to me growing up.... I might not have taken on the family trade from my dad and granddad like my brother did, but as it turns out, those values - fairness and hard work - are just as important in the job of politics as they are in plastering.

09.01.2022 Premier Mark McGowan's message to Western Australians to reinvigorate our regular hand washing and staying home if unwell will be crucial over coming days and weeks as interstate travel restrictions ease with WA's new controlled border arrangements from Saturday 14 November. You can watch more of the Premier's interview last night on Flashpoint WA on 7, including what the controlled border will mean for Western Australians, like Ellen, who will now be able to see family from over east over the Christmas holidays, far sooner than originally anticipated due to a positive change in the health advice.

08.01.2022 I am a dad of two primary school aged kids, and I understand parents concern for children who have to cross a road as busy as Walcott Street to get to school. Kyilla primary School parents have shown their abilities to proactively engage their school and their local and state governments to coordinate an application for a crossing guard. As local MP I have written to the Minister for Police in support of this crossing and urge Police to consider it for approval. ... If approved, more children will have the option to walk to school safely next year.

08.01.2022 Today Premier Mark McGowan has announced a change in WA’s Victorian and New South Wales classification following expert health advice as part of our controlled interstate border arrangements. As someone with family over east, I know this is welcomed news for families who have waited patiently to see their loved ones until it is safe to travel. I encourage you to read the Premier’s post in full for further detail.

07.01.2022 My team and I had a monster door knock this morning to chat about the McGowan Labor Government’s $600 WA Household Electricity Credit. The credit will be applied to eligible residential customers' accounts from tomorrow onwards. Special thanks to Patrick Gorman MP for joining!

06.01.2022 Today is Australian Citizenship Day. Here in WA, we are truly lucky to be able to celebrate citizenship ceremonies in person this year. Attending the City of Stirlings citizenship ceremony tonight will feel all the more special for this reason, and it truly is a privilege to welcome new citizens as part of my role as local Member of Parliament.... At each ceremony I have attended in my first term as Member for Mount Lawley, I am consistently humbled by the pride of new Australian citizens and how important it is to them to take that final step of adopting of our shared Australian identity. Whether you were born in Australia or received your citizenship certificate as an immigrant, Australian Citizenship Day is a time to celebrate our democratic values and shared commitment to equality and respect for each other.

05.01.2022 Door knocking this morning was particularly special because we welcomed two new volunteers - Lisa and Will They joined me to chat with our local community about how the WA Recovery Plan is kickstarting our economy. 05.01.2022 I welcome you to join me in signing a Christmas card from Western Australians to our Premier, Mark McGowan. Mark has done an incredible job this year, demonstrated strong, measured leadership in the face of amazing challenges, and I am honoured to be part of his team. A huge thank you to Mark from me, Tara and our boys, and our wishes for a peaceful, restful Christmas with loved ones.

04.01.2022 Important health and travel advice changes, reinstating WA’s hard border with New South Wales: Currently there have been 41 community cases in just the last two or three days. Given the size of the Sydney outbreak and recent advice from this afternoon’s AHPCC meeting, our Acting Chief Health Officer has recommended that New South Wales now move from being a ‘low risk’ state to a ‘medium risk’ state....Continue reading

04.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to my Dad, Brian, and to all of the dads in our community, particularly to those who can't be with their families in person for Father's Day this year. 04.01.2022 WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced today a new, improved and sensible way forward for managing limits and quarantine management for Western Australians returning from overseas. I commend the Premier and the WA Governments work to secure this solution in cooperation with the Federal Government.

04.01.2022 The WA Government has reported no new cases of COVID-19 overnight, which is immensely relieving for local residents. Also, WA has gone over 150 days with no community transmission. I want to thank everyone for remaining vigilant and patient over the past weeks and months. ...Continue reading

03.01.2022 Relief for local business.

02.01.2022 An important update from earlier today with confirmation of three people confirmed to have come down with the highly contagious UK strain of coronavirus - thankfully all three are currently in hotel quarantine. My best wishes to them for a speedy recovery. Our border and quarantine restrictions have proven immensely important for keeping Western Australians safe and strong over oncoming months.

02.01.2022 A good reminder from WA Premier Mark McGowan about how effective our hard border policies have been in protecting Western Australians and shoring up our local economy. It hasnt come without its costs and I share Mark McGowans sentiments. It would be wonderful to see loved ones over east for Christmas, but we just cant risk it.... We must continue to hold tight until the Chief Health Officer advises it is safe to reopen our borders.

02.01.2022 The McGowan Government has launched a new campaign to Staycation in Perth over upcoming holidays. There are so many great things to do right here in and around our own local suburbs - and countless local businesses to support along the way. As Member for Mount Lawley Ive had a good chance to experience the amazing hospitality, beautiful parks and reserves, and places to see here in the local electorate, with a few familiar faces to boot. Heres a few photos to inspire your s...taycation travel bug. Check out Experience Perth here: https://www.experienceperth.com//explore-activities-do-per

02.01.2022 A good reminder from the Premier to thank our emergency services workers who are working incredibly hard over summer to keep us safe. 01.01.2022 A fun night out and a great sporting club to support! Laguna Veneto Club

01.01.2022 Great news for homeowners and local jobs The McGowan Government has extended the highly successful Building Bonus Program. Weve added an additional $30 million boost to the program to meet the higher than expected demand for the successful COVID-19 stimulus measure. Were also establishing a new COVID-19 Industry Support Fund that will provide further targeted assistance for industries that need it.... As WAs economic recovery has been faster and stronger than initially expected, take up of some of our initial support measures has been lower than we budgeted for. Some measures have also been in higher demand like our Building Bonus program. We rolled out $2.7 billion of immediate COVID-19 stimulus and relief measures earlier this year. Those measures provided an important safety net for countless WA workers and businesses. But thankfully, fewer Western Australians needed to make use of them than originally anticipated. Thanks to the efforts of all Western Australians, along with our hard border, weve been able to open up our economy more than any other State and we are now seeing strong signs that WA is recovering faster than expected. But while many of us have been fortunate, we know that some industries have been hit harder than others, and face longer term challenges as the pandemic continues around the world. For those funds which have not had the uptake originally anticipated and which are no longer required, we will repurpose the money through a new fund to provide further stimulus and relief where it is needed most. By monitoring sectors of our economy over the coming weeks and months we will be able to provide further targeted relief and stimulus that will create and support local jobs and continue our economic recovery. One stimulus measure which has seen strong take up has been the Building Bonus program - which offers grants of $20,000 to any homebuyer who wishes to build a new house or purchase a new property in a single-tier development (such as a townhouse) prior to completion of construction. Following the introduction of the grants, land sales increased significantly, peaking at around 500 sales per week in late June. This is up from the historical average of around 60 per week. The $30 million of additional funding for the Building Bonus announced today takes the total investment in the program to $147 million - a massive boost for our local construction industry. Western Australians have done so well to work through this challenging year together so far - and this new fund will help to ensure everyone local workers and industries arent left behind as our economy recovers.
