21.01.2022 National Sorry Day. A day we reflect and listen to the stories of the stolen generation. Because we need to listen. As hard as it is, we need to speak and hear the stories. All Australians need to understand the intergenerational trauma and understand it is not history, it is the now. So proud of the hard work our Elders and Traditional Owners are doing to keep culture and language alive. It’s the oldest culture in the planet, we should be so proud of it! #nationalsorryday2020 #reconciliationweek2020

16.01.2022 Please take a second to sign and share this petition, asking the Queensland Government to review the reduced holding capacity of Leslie Harrison Dam. Reduced capacity of the Dam means MORE pressure on the Minjerribah / NSI aquifer to supply Redland’s waterThe island won’t be able to keep supplying over 60% of Redlands water without serious harm to the environment https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au//petit/petition-details

11.01.2022 A big thanks to Redlands2030 for helping us promote the importance of saving the island's water This week, SIMO wrote to candidates in the upcoming Redland City Council election, asking their position on the water extraction from Minjerribah / North Stradbroke Island. Read the article below for the details. We hope to raise awareness of the water issue, particularly the fact that there is no trigger level to stop pumping from the aquifer, and that no one really knows how lo...w is too low. The aquifer is being treated as if it was just another dam on the SEQ Water grid. But, unlike dams, the aquifer underpins all life on the island. You also can't see the levels dropping, so the issue is hidden. Until it's not SIMO letter to council candidates is now on Redlands 2030 together with SIMO fact sheet https://redlands2030.net/candidates-grilled-on-straddie-wa/ There has also been an update to SIMO’s original water article (Feb 8) posted today (12 March) on Redlands 2030 https://redlands2030.net/reduce-minjerribah-aquifer-water-/ Feel free to contact us if you want to get involved or help spread the message in any way

02.01.2022 Six of the world’s sea turtle species have been found in Moreton Bay waters. While hunting from European settlers threatened populations towards the middle of t...he 20th century, recent conservation efforts have brought these majestic creatures back from the brink of extinction. However, turtles are threatened by other human activities - light pollution, boat strike and climate change pose serious risks for the future of sea turtles. #turtles #climatechange #turtletuesday
