20.01.2022 Good news at last . We have been in talks with the Department of Agriculture and as we have confirmed to them , that as the chicken feeders are made from new materials and have not been used, all materials have been kept separate from our own poultry and there is no risk of contamination, we have had it confirmed that we can now go back to selling our feeders. ... We have contained our flock and netted their run and as we use the feeders and waters we have no feed or water easily accessible to encourage wild birds into the chicken's area. Peter does not enter their run and I don't go near the old woolshed factory. If you like you can wash the feeder in hot, soapy water and leave in the sun for the day if you are worried, before placing it with your flock. 10.01.2022 Do you wash your eggs? When your chooks lay their eggs, there is a natural coating that is laid on top called the "bloom" that helps keep out bacteria. When you wash eggs, you drive some bacteria in through the pores of the shell, so it's a bad idea to do so as a general practice. If your nests are clean, your eggs should be.... Although in winter its a bit tricky as the girls don't tend to wipe their feet before hopping into nest box, we feel a little bit of dirt doesn't hurt, we just use these ones first..if really muddy then we feed those ones to the dogs or recycle back to chooks.
