25.01.2022 I had a ball today learning how to weave baskets with my Mum and sister at the Wondai Regional Gallery. Romaine from Ramesa Nursery near Kingaroy was our lovely teacher. We used cat’s claw vine - a pest overtaking a lot of scrub - to make our baskets. It was so interesting to see all the different baskets people made. Once you have the basic understanding of how to start, there are endless possibilities for shapes and sizes. Thanks Romaine, we had so much fun and we will definitely be making more baskets in the future.
22.01.2022 Oops! Thankful Thursday on Friday! Let’s call it Fantastic Friday. We are camping this weekend with friends at Girraween near Stanthorpe. I am currently sitting on the top of Pyramid Rock watching the sunset. Incredible! Today I am thankful to God for: wildflowers, rock boulders balancing, the sound of walking on gravel paths, smell of campfires, bubbling creeks, trees growing in rock cracks and deep maroon gum leaves.
19.01.2022 Thankful Thursday. "The best way to show my gratitude to God is to accept everything, even my problems, with joy" Mother Theresa. Learning to let go and accept what is, to let go of control and go with the flow is a lesson that we will continue to learn our whole life but to accept everything with joy takes it to a whole new level. Practicing gratitude daily is a good start. Today I am thankful to God for: my amazing Mum who is helping with a school project, celebrating special birthdays with family, going to the park with Caleb and watching him have fun on his bike, learning a new card game, coffee and gluten free slices with Mum, students eager to help, birthday balloons, fancy cakes and sparklers. This beautiful cake was made by Nicola. So talented!
18.01.2022 It was great to finally get to do a rag rug workshop we had organised pre-Covid. Thanks Prue for hosting it in your lovely creative, vintage inspired home! Macrame workshop next!
18.01.2022 Thankful Thursday: today I am thankful to God for crazy socks, hawaiian shirts, celebrating the end of term, anticipation of holidays, family visits, reunion of old friends, group chats on Messenger, walking in the bush, staying at a friends house overnight, deep conversations, knowing that family and friends are always there when times are hard.
15.01.2022 Thankful Thursday: After a fantastic time away at Girraween National Park last weekend with friends it got me thinking about all the wonderful resources and facilities that are freely available for us to use. Sure, a lot of them we pay for in a roundabout way but they are still planned and provided for us to appreciate. We are so incredibly blessed and I take so many things for granted. Today I am thankful to God for: National Parks and State Forests; public libraries; local parks; playgrounds and BBQ’s; footpaths and bike paths; toilet blocks; sewerage and rubbish collection; park benches; street signs; public artworks and community events.
12.01.2022 Thankful Thursday: Today I have been thinking about the many teachers that have had an impact in my life. I am so grateful for these people - for their patience, guidance, support, encouragement, enthusiasm, passion and dedication. These people helped me to grow, stretch, try new things, step out of my comfort zone and stand up for what I believe in. They all had a positive influence on my life and through their example have helped me to become the person I am today. What tea...cher would you like to thank? Today I am thankful to God for: Mrs Barbour - my piano teacher; Mr McArdle - my Year 4, 5 & 6 teacher and softball coach; Mrs Johnston - my high school English teacher and debating coach; Mrs Hunter - my Geography teacher, I still remember how she taught us to spell "mediterranean"; Mr Ron Skilton - university lecturer who inspired me to love Australian children's literature; Dr Belle Alderman - my mentor and PhD supervisor. 09.01.2022 Super excited - one sock finished! I am not a fast knitter and have only ever done the basics so I am very pleased to have finished this sock. I have learnt so many new things and now I know what I am doing I am sure the next one won’t take as long. I am definitely hooked - lots of fun!
09.01.2022 ReSew2020 #9 Baby Shoes - I have just adored making these baby shoes using a pattern I bought online from Twig and Tale - https://www.twigandtale.com//classic-reversible-indoor-sho. It is a perfect project for using up fabric scraps and upcycling material. The instructions were very clear and extremely easy to follow with lots of accompanying photos. The shoes come in a variety of sizes and are reversible. I think they will make delightful baby gifts which is just perfect as we have an explosion of babies being born in our family and circle of friends.
08.01.2022 Thankful Thursday: Gratitude is the doorway to contentment and joy! Today I am thankful to God for: shades of mountain blue; crisp, clear blue winter skies; walking in the dark before dawn breaks; six kookaburras sitting on the electric wire; the joy and delight of a little boy stomping in the leaves; a bunch of flowers from a friends garden; exchanging book recommendations with students; a complete rainbow in the afternoon sky.
08.01.2022 Thankful Thursday: In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God - John 1:1. Words play a big part in my life. Being an avid reader, teacher and librarian I am surrounded by words. After reading a picture book called "The Word Collector" by Peter H Reynolds my students were asked to choose words they love to be included on a huge wall of words. There was a wide range of words from tree to geochronology. God chooses words through the Bible to ...show and share his love for us. Taking the time to listen and linger in His word and allowing the words to sink deep into your heart is a beautiful, contemplative practice. So today I am thankful to God for words that bring me joy and make me smile: autumnal, relish, ponder, discombobulated, delight, serendipity, solitude, perambulation, cherish, plethora, ephemeral, effervescent, whisper, aromatic and silence. Do you have a favourite word?
05.01.2022 Thankful Thursday: I love the change of seasons. The anticipation of warmer weather. It is like watching God's creation stretch and yawn and wake up from winter slumber. It is ready to burst to life. Down our street, when the sun is behind the new leaves of a particular tree, they are just glowing red. It gives me such joy to see that when I go for my walk in the morning. For me, there is always a week, which hasn't quite happened yet, that indicates that Spring is here. Yo...u can feel it - it is just around the corner. Today I am thankful to God for: a pink street; soft, velvety, new red leaves; the heady waft of broom perfume as you walk down the street; flower buds ready to pop open; later sunsets, earlier sunrises; planting some seedlings in the veggie patch; the rich smell of soil being turned; bees buzzing around the lavender; and chooks laying abundantly.
05.01.2022 Thankful Thursday: As a teacher librarian at a primary school, term 3 is all about Book Week and reading the shortlisted books for the Book of the Year Awards. One of the books titled "Three" written and illustrated by one of my all time favourite authors/illustrators - Stephen Michael King is a beautiful story about a three legged dog who lived on the street. Even though he had no home he was always happy, grateful and content with what he did have. Then one day he "follo...wed a sweet scented breeze and found he had walked far away to a place where the green rolled slowly and the cars were not so many". He was accepted and welcomed into a lovely home - "Fern, her mother and brother and Three would make a perfect four". I loved the last page which you can see below. What a beautiful message about being grateful for what you do have. Today I am grateful to God for the many everyday things that I so often take for granted: an electric kettle to boil water for my cup of tea; turning a tap so that I can fill my kettle with clean, fresh water; buying food and provisions at nearby shops; an abundance of food choice; a car to take me to the shops; a fridge to keep food cold; knives, forks, plates and a table to share meals with family and friends. 04.01.2022 Resew2020 - #10 Shirt. Here is my next Resew project. It is quite a simple one. I really liked the material in this dress but did not like the style so I made it into a shirt by shortening the hemline. I kept it scalloped at the edges brought it in under the arm and down the side seam and then put two darts in the back to give it more shape. It will also be great to wear in summer as the sleeves can be rolled up and there is a tab to keep them in place. I think I will get a lot of wear out of this one.
