25.01.2022 Simplicity Law would like to wish you all the best for 2020
25.01.2022 Many people ask us why we decided to use an origami bird as part of the Simplicity Law logo. The origami bird draws on a dove and a Japanese crane, both very powerful symbols. The Japanese Crane and the origami create are a strong symbol in Eastern culture and in Japanese culture in particular as it represents longevity and good luck. There is a lovely legend that when you fold a 1000 cranes you are granted a wish. It is a symbol that is positive, uplifting and about mov...ing forward. The dove is also a strong symbol in Western culture. The dove represents bringing peace and harmony so applying this to law if one has gone through some trouble times, I think it symbolises resolution and good times ahead. The intention behind our logo was to combine both the crane and the dove for these two reasons. We chose a bird because we liked the the idea of giving flight as well as creating a feeling of being uplifted. It is our wish that when clients access our services that they have a sense of being uplifted and empowered and moving forward. People often express feeling anxious and overwhelmed when considering seeking legal advice. We want people to feel reassured and supported through accessing Simplicity Laws services

17.01.2022 INMATE ART GOES UNDER THE HAMMER They might be on the inside, but a group of inmates have been deeply moved by whats happening on the outside and have dona...ted their artworks to raise money for the Foodbank Bushfire Emergency Appeal. The auction of the five paintings will be launched here on the Justice NSW Facebook page at 11am AEST Tuesday 18 February and will end at 10:59:59am AEST on Friday 22 February 2020. The canvases measure 60x60cm and were painted by inmates at Macquarie Correctional Centre, at Wellington in the states Central West. First up is the emotional Habitat Trauma, by 46-year-old Vin, which depicts a teary koala clinging to a fire-fighting hose. Vin describes the work as fauna in distress emits the latest national emergency. Acrylic on canvas. Second up is the striking Desert Dreaming, by Aboriginal artist Lloyd featuring boomerangs, stars and other Indigenous motifs. Lloyd says his work is about paying respect to all influences of my culture. Acrylic on canvas. Third on the auction table is Lost Souls, by inmate artist Ryan. The sepia-toned work is based on the theme of social concepts, with Ryan describing it as the hopeless searchers, looking for meaning. Acrylic on canvas. Fourth up River Run by Aboriginal inmate Gavin. He says the dot painting with platypus motif is painted in memory of our river connection. Acrylic on canvas. Finally, we have Hero in Orange by Bruce, a tribute to our Rural Fire Service Volunteers. Bruce says the portrait depicts the bravery of firefighters risking their lives. Oil on canvas. 12.01.2022 We loved the story of this book and it how it embodies the philosophy we have towards the law. It is why we have the crane embodied within our logo. The crane is not only a very beautiful symbol, it is also a very ancient symbol. It holds a very important place in Japanese culture because it represents longevity and good luck. ... Theres a lovely philosophy where if you fold 1000 paper cranes, it will bring about your wish, and good luck. The story of 1000 paper cranes was embodied in a lovely story about a little girl Todarko who became very ill after Hiroshima and developed a cancer that could not be cured. Before she passed away, she attempted to fold over 1000 cranes for world peace. In doing this the crane became a symbol for hope and peace. So, the crane is a lovely symbol as well as a positive symbol as it is also a bird taking flight, so it is also an uplifting symbol and why we selected it as part of our logo. We understand that when people access the law, it can be quite a challenging process, but it is our hope that their journey can also be a repairing process and it can help move you towards a better place.

08.01.2022 Renata Matyear of Simplicity Law is an advocate for therapeutic jurisprudence. For a number of years now Renata has been an advocator for a drug court in the Illawarra where participants can engage in long term drug rehabilitation under the guidance and direction of the court. The recent Ice inquiry has taken a particular look at alternative ways of dealing with drug related offenses, which has included looking at Drug Courts where health services and treatment become an in...tegral part of the justice process, for crimes relating where a drug addiction is the underlying cause of the criminal behaviour. The enquiry recently indicated recommendations might include options such as decriminalisation for small quantity (personal) possession. We are waiting final recommendations of the inquiry due to be released in January 2020. Simplicity law is following the progression of the enquiry with interest and is hoping that funding for Drug Courts and drug rehabilitation services will be made available for the Illawarra.
