Sexy ladies (pure Barnivelder hens) Happy rider (pure Barnivelder) Rooster. Super effort by this 10mth old surrogate Pullet "Lacey girl" To hatch all the eggs out that was under her. Perfect setter, will be my future surrogate mum for many years. Yes I trained her on a previous cycle. Like everything you only get what you put in, this pullet gave 100% Yes I selected the breeding hens, the fertile eggs and made the nest, but it is the sitting hen that is the heroine Lets watch how good she is as a Mum in future posts.

25.01.2022 4 big thick frosts before, on and after the full moon is quite normal for winter. Water rises with the moons draw, making it look like snow.

19.01.2022 It's WAR! A 'good' season brings with it insect attack. Never, never have I seen such a population of Bronze Orange Bugs (Musgraveia sulciventris), -stink bettle. This Bad bug can cause serious damage to citrus trees . Both Adults and nymphs go for the flowers and stems of fruit set. They are massive suckers. I hate this nasty dangerous bug. its war! Trying to control them, organically is a full time task. Especially when you have 28 mature citrus trees. glasses o...n, I flick them to the ground and squish (sorry), and I cut them in half ( yes I do, it's war), and I spray very early in the morning, at dusk, with a mix of neem oil, pyrethrin, and eco oil. It takes several sprays. Am I winning the war. Yes gradually. See more

For good quality fruit and for the health of branches and fruit spurs on the Apples and Pears. Even more stone fruit will be trimmed off if daily rain continues.

11.01.2022 Broccoli was harvested throughout winter these plants will continue to produce for another 12mths at least. A annual can be a Biannual, it's all about sustainable gardening. 11.01.2022 Cool temperate Citrus Orchards or that one Lemon tree, need some TLC at the break of "your" Spring. It is NOT the time to Fertilise Citrus. Citrus has yielded fruit all winter, some varieties have just finished fruiting and are now blossoming. Mid and late varieties are still fruiting with a lot of new growth. This all means there is an extremely high demand on minerals. Now is when Citrus needs rock minerals, trace elements, and carbon to carry those minerals into the tree. Lots of compost and mulch = carbon. Hold off on Fertilising, with nitrogen, so that citrus is not susceptible to late cold snaps, frosts or big fluctuations in temperatures. If your Citrus isn't blooming brilliantly use liquid potash with eco oil as a foliar spray on the back of the leaves.

10.01.2022 ? My method. I plant from seed, raise a seedling, pot that seedling up in 50/50 my compost & worm castings, then grow my seedlings on in our hot house. For the last 2 weeks I have harden the adv seedling off outside the hot house. Slowly increasing exposure to outdoor ambient temp. yes I put them back into bed each nightuntil 2days before planting. They sit in the garden where they are going to be planted for a few days. I mulch, prepare soil, (lots of compost) and ...dig big holes. Deep holes. Remove lowest true leaves and back fill. Some varieties I plant horizontal still very deep. Thats correct I lay them down. I garden for maximum yields and food with the highest nutritional content possible. I also want to be a waterwise gardener. Deep planted transplant will grow the greatest amount of roots. It will be a strong plant, a plant that can uptake lots of nutrients and have the best opportunity to reach its maximum yield. Not to mention the tremendous benefits of a mass root system in the soil. Each year here in a cool, temperate climate, planting out tomatoes and capsicums is earlier than the last year. It use to be mid to late October before advanced seedlings came out of the glass hot house. Now I'm planting out into our garden beds today. Yes we could get a frost in October? But

09.01.2022 Bath time. No privacy when you have , no relaxing, Mumma hen has to keep a watch out, And the chicks are chirping their hungry. Chick's are getting their wing feathers and worms. .

06.01.2022 Spring so far has been 4 seasons in the first month, the stone fruit and pom fruit rooms are moving from blossom to fruit (early & mid varieties) quickly. Keeping us busy. Gypsum (for the sulphur content) and it doesn't change pH has been applied. It has been effective in preventing fungal diseases in our climate. At first fruit set we do our second spray to prevent leaf curl, leaf speckle, crown and brown rot. We use eco- fungicide mix with eco-oil in water. Fruit fly monitoring traps have baits refreshed, which will last for the next 5mths. We start getting fruit fly migration here from the beginning of August. See photos in comments. Compost, minerals, mulch and ground covers are going out under the vine crops.

06.01.2022 Even with the worst winter weather outdoors, our hot house is producing awesome tomatoes and cucumbers.

05.01.2022 A rotational system of chook management keeps our Chooks "Organic Happy Healthy Chooks!" And nutritional healthy eggs. The chooks have just been moved back to their other Chook house/run. The Deep litter system was planted out the day after moving the . With yummy herbs, grains and Asian greens. The Free range run is limed and minerals thrown on. Rest, recovery and break down off chook manure is needed for a chook run. Length of rotation depends on free range run vegetive cover. NEVER let your chooks reduce your run to dirt. Don't let chook manure and those scratching legs imbalance soil life. Photos tell the story, see comments for more photos. Hopefully you may get some ideas.

05.01.2022 Bees = Honey Bees = Pollination We hope you are planning a "sweet, busy as a bee" weekend.

05.01.2022 Just to inspire you for the weekend Maybe you might build a hot house. We love fresh home hot house grown tomatoes in winter, soooo worth it.

04.01.2022 Live by don't put all your eggs in one basket! Too breaking to be growing food for $ , been there done that. We were on track for the best Nectarine harvest for two years. Not that we have had big rain but lovely rain over many days has caused the early varieties of Nectarine to split. If you have any, any, fruit that splits remove it straight away. This will prevent disease, insect attack, promote growth of smaller fruit and keep the tree healthy. Split fruit would be extremely susceptible to QLD fruit fly. We have mid season varieties that hopefully will be ok. Plus all the other stonefruit. Our harvest baskets will still be full.

04.01.2022 We hope your veggies are powering along, ours are! Seed Save summer annual herbs, seed save cut'n'drop summer perennials. Reminder herbs can be weeds, (and weeds are herbs), self sowing herbs can be 7 years of weeds. See photos in comments.
