22.01.2022 PILATES oh how I have missed you! I finally have had a moment to jump on our new reformer myself. Feels SO good!... While I'm not taking on new clients at the moment given my upcoming leave watch this space for 2021. It's been good to have a career break, to sit back and decide how I want to incorporate my Pilates and Musculoskeletal therapy skills. My experience in the past was extremely valuable and has shaped who I am as a therapist, but I realised I needed a different environment. For the past few months I have been offering 2:1 clinical pilates to clients of ours who have very limited movement with great results. My aim is to get these people to the point where they CAN attend a fitness class again. Staying in the rehab cycle forever is not sustainable. At @theweightbuffet we are about fostering independence in clients, teaching them about their patterns so they can take that knowledge with them wherever they go! My preggy mat class will continue until I physically cannot teach- so sometime in late Feb. New clients are welcome. New times coming in 2021.

21.01.2022 PERSPECTIVE Sitting here this morning, soaking up the glorious early morning sun in the peace and quiet. I realised that the last 2 visits here I have been in a much better space.... I no longer feel that huge relief from stress when we arrive here, there's no urgency to spend as much time as possible by the water. It doesn't bother me that it isn't warm enough to swim. I'm just grateful to be here. Enjoying the view. Feeling the sand under my feet. There's a lot to be said for the ability to find positives in any situation. It changes your whole perspective and then the mood of what comes afterwards. Then I realised, I must have a better ratio. I'm finally sorting out my mental chatter. It has been 1 year, since we lost our baby Feels so much longer than that. Now we are in the home stretch for our next babe who is just biding its time waiting to make its arrival. Halfway through our holiday. We will be back soon. Kimberley

11.01.2022 How to position yourself comfortably in bed while pregnant! Just about every pregnant woman I treat comments at some stage at how comfortable the set up is on the massage table. Most women are aware of the use of pillows for comfort but it would seem that no one has really explained it, so here we are!... This pregnancy I have chosen to go with a pregnancy wedge from Therapeutic Pillow International (we can order these for you) and a Belly Bean. You can also use a standard pillow between your knees, body pillows, triangle pillows etc but for ease I am using these 2. From around 20 weeks or once you have popped out, if you are feeling restless and uncomfortable try side lying with a wedge under your belly. You might feel silly if your bump is only little but the relief is . The wedge takes the strain off your ligaments. I'm normally a back sleeper and was surprised at how long I was able to continue to do this as long as I had my belly bean or the wedge behind me propping up my right hip. This shifts the weight of bubs off your inferior vena cava allowing blood to return to your heart. If your pelvis - SIJ, hips, pubic bone or lower back gives you grief you will want a pillow between your legs. I use my belly bean, one between my knees, the other between my ankles, you could also use a high profile standard pillow. Yhe wider your hips the higher the pillow. The idea is you want your hips to be stacked (not rolling forward or back) and the thigh bone as close to parallel to the bed as you can. This reduces strain through the back of the hip/ sacral areas. As you grow change the way you bolster yourself. Experiment! Now that my belly is quite large I always need a wedge, otherwise it feels like your belly might rip off . A good supportive pillow for your neck makes big difference too. We recommend the complete sleeper pillows that we stock @thefunctionaljoint A comfortable night of sleep means you feel fresher in the morning. Having a couple of different sized pillows on hand to play with will help. Those last few months feel like years if you aren't sleeping well! Any questions about pillows just send me a DM and I'll do my best to help.

07.01.2022 PILATES at 36 weeks pregnant I am all about hip extension It doesn't take long for those pesky glutes to start gripping, i can feel the bones in my pelvis moving when I walk or sit up in bed ... So what to do? Activate!! I love horsekick on the reformer, on 1 spring. Forgive the sloppy knee on the 3rd rep, i was going to do 2 and then went for a 3rd before transitioning. I have basically wrapped up preggy pilates for the time being. It has been wonderful working with these women over the past several months. I love being able to take them from the massage room to the movement space. Following them through their pregnancies, talking through and sharing our knowledge and experiences. I am planning to change up preggy pilates @theweightbuffet for when I return. Stay tuned #pilates #prenatalpilates #preggypilates #reformerpilates #thefunctionaljoint #mildura #simplyremedial #theweightbuffet #36weekspregnant
