17.01.2022 Gasshõ . Across many cultures the joining of hands is used as a gesture of respect. . In yoga our two hands are joined.. They represent us and others coming together. When we are bonded, we are connected and equal. ... . The hands are placed in front of our heart to stimulate our heart centre and feelings of love/peace. Quite often yoga teachers will close a class with this hand symbol as a sign of gratitude and respect. . They may even include a word, meditation or sound with one of the following: Namastè is a greeting of value and appreciation. Metta Bhavana is wishing happiness, joy and peace for all living things. Om is the universal vibration that connects us and everything around us. . In Japan this is a meditation called gasshõ.. (Used for calming the mind from irritability). . Try it... Sit or lay comfortably with the hands joined and thumbs resting against the sternum. Slow your breathing and thoughts. Use the place where the two middle fingers touch as a focal point for your mind. When it wanders, gently bring it back. Start with 5 - 10mins and work upwards towards 20 - 30mins. . Dont be discouraged if you don't like a meditation. But do experiment! Ask yourself "How does it make you feel?" Finding the ones you like.. can be like finding clothes to fit your style... and sometimes you might revisit one at a later time and it might resonate with you differently? . 09.01.2022 What's your favourite post-workout snack? Here's one of my favs! Mango Goddess ... Whip up this creamy dairy-free concoction as a refreshing and nutritious snack or a quick chilled breakfast after you have woken up your system with a sweet yoga or pilates sesh. Mangoes are in season and so delicious. Use fresh or frozen (or of course substitute for berries or peaches for a yummy alternative). The goods... 1 handful of spinach 1/2 banana 1/2 mango 1/4 cup coconut yogurt/milk 4 ice cubes (omit if you are using frozen fruit) Simply pop your peach into a blender, combine all ingredients. You are not your body size/shape. . You are not your gender/sexual preference/racial definition. . You are not your position/role in the family. . You are not the feelings you have. . You are not the successes or failures you experience. . You are not who you hang out with or your interests. . These things do create a sense of your likes and dislikes, but these things do not define you nor lead to true happiness/peace. They are much alike ripples on the surface of the water or like dust on the mirror clouding your reflection. . Can you remember who you are underneath the ripples? . Breath. Love. Light. Calm. . 07.01.2022 My take on a wall sit.. . When we go upside down, gravity stretches and lengthens the spine. Oxygen runs easily to the brain for clarity, digestive organs get stimulated/relieved of pressure, enhanced lymphatic drainage (immune function) and venus return (old blood returns to the heart for recirculation). This pose is a chest/heart opener to promote self love for you and empathy for others. . Too strong?? Can't do it?? Lay with your back on the floor and legs up the w...all for a deeply restorative alternative. 02.01.2022 Sharing my sequence for hips today and that's to play with my "edge" (what is comfortable vs what is uncomfortable). . Hip openers have always been my nemesis and for a long time I refused to do them. Like all things we avoid, or reject, they are usually what needs attention most! . Advanced yoga poses shouldn't be the main goal of your practice. Yoga is about showing up for yourself with consistency and bringing your head and your body back together when they become disjo...inted from running the work/life wheel.. Finding time to fill your cup! . There is awesome rewards to an inward exploration of what your perceived limitations are and then building that up with strength and mobility over time. I have never been able to get this far in this pose, and even though I fell (twice) I am so so happy with the progress! Saying what I need to say in under 2000 characters is tough for someone who loves the details! 1. My real name is actually Helène pronounced ‘Hel-ay-n’ I have always been called Laini though, even if someone yelled it out to me, I probably wouldn’t even turn around. ... 2. My favourite animal is a turtle. My bucket list travel thing yet to be accomplished is to go help the new hatchlings down the beach. Has anyone done it in QLD or WA? I would love any recommendations? 3. I came to Oz as a wee babe (at just 7months old) and grew up in country NSW. I returned to my country of birth (Korea) for the very first time in 2019 with a group of 12 other South Korean adoptees from all over the world (who I had never met). I was the only Aussie. 4. I spent 4 years working and traveling across Europe and Sth East Asia then exchanged my backpack for a snowboard and lived in Canada for another 4 years. 5. If you didn't already know, I love yoga! I walked into my first yoga class (which was a Bikram class I nearly died) in 2008. I always hunted out yoga classes wherever I was in the world it always felt like home to me. I have been teaching for 5 yrs this year and I aspire to make it to India someday, to study from the birthplace of this age-old practice that continues to open my eyes and heart each day. 6. Previous jobs I have had - accountant's clerk, sales, promo chic, barista, dishy, cleaner, waitress, bartender, restaurant manager, guest services manager, events coordinator, tour host. I traded all the jobs in to be a mum which gave me the courage together to run with what I love full-time! Now your turn! 02.01.2022 . Greece stole my heart. I spent a Summer in my 20's in the Cyclades (group of Greek Islands) travelling and working for the Summer. . A friend and I camped on the beaches and island hopped, with backpacks, drinking ouzo, eating delicious Mediterranean food and meeting such vibrant and beautiful people. Stunning sunsets over blue ocean contrasted with white buildings adorned by grapevines. Bustling cobblestone towns, so many donkeys, dogs and people moving through market... stalls and "kafenions" (cafe) set upon colourful beaches. .
