04.01.2022 PARTNER VISA CHANGES The #Australian #government announced further details about the changes to the #Partner #Visa program regarding adding #English #language testing. Acting #Immigration #Minister #AlanTudge has said that the English changes are intended to apply from the middle of #2021, and will be implemented at the second (#permanentresident) stage. What this will mean is that we will require an #applicant and a #sponsor to have met #functionallevelEnglish or to have a...t least made #reasonable efforts to learn English. And by reasonable efforts we mean for most people that would be doing about 500 hours of free #Englishlanguageclasses." It’s unclear whether there will be a "#buy-out" available if applicants or their permanent resident sponsors are unable to provide evidence of #functionalEnglish or take 500 hours of English language classes, with one major Sydney newspaper publishing a story that seemed to indicate that partner visas would be refused if the English language requirements could not be met. It is also unclear at the moment whether exemptions will be made for people who hold certain passports from English-speaking countries or have had a specified level of English education in other countries, whether disadvantaged applicants such as victims of #familyviolence will be held to the same English requirement, and how situations will be handled when an applicant passes the #English requirement but the sponsor does not. #CrossingBorders will provide a continuing coverage of the changes in #immigrationpolicy and requirements as they develop.

01.01.2022 #2020-21 #Victorian #business and #investor #visa #nomination #program #update Victorias 2020-21 business and investor visa nomination program (#subclass188 and <132) will #open #today at 9am AEST, Tuesday, 8 September, 2020. The #coronavirus #pandemic has significantly changed the #economic and #social #environment for #migration #policies and programs, but #well-targeted #migration policies and programs remain #essential to #Victorias #economic #recovery.... The #Commonwealth #Department of #HomeAffairs has provided the Victorian Government with an #interim #allocation of visa nomination #places for the #Business #Innovation and #Investment #Program (#BIIP) up #until the #FederalBudget on 6 October. The limited number of places are to be used to address the states economic recovery and health response to the pandemic. The Commonwealth Government will advise after the Federal Budget what additional state nomination visa places will be allocated to the Victorian Government for the remainder of the 2020-21 program year. Changes to nomination criteria For the interim period, the Victorian Governments business and investor migration program will reopen with no substantial changes to the existing nomination criteria, except for #one #additional #requirement. All business and investment activity must contribute to Victorias economic recovery or health response to be approved for visa nomination. You must #address this #new #criterion using the #EconomicRecovery Business and Investment Support Form when you submit your application through the Live in Melbourne portal. Places are limited and applications are expected to be highly competitive. To have the best chance of success, it is important that your application is specific about the way your business or investment will assist Victorias economic recovery or health response to the pandemic. Changes to application processing The Commonwealth Government has provided the interim places for the Victorian Government to use until the Federal Budget. To ensure that all applications received can be assessed within this timeframe, applications will #close at 5pm AEST, 21 September 2020.
